Grimes Relishing Hard Work
Matt Grimes is a player with a big future ahead of him and as he reported back for pre-season training with the Swans this week then he was relishing the challenges ahead in his first pre-season with the Swans.
One of the Swans January transfer window signings, Grimes arrived at Swansea with a big reputation from his time at Exeter and a price tag of around £1.75m round his neck.
That in itself tells you just what the Swans think of his talent and he made three substitute appearances in the last few weeks of the season - against Hull, Newcastle and Crystal Palace.
And it is thought that this year he will be very much in the plans of Garry Monk for the new season although it will be a great job for him if he manages to dislodge the midfielders ahead of him on merit.
But it is clear that he has arrived for pre-season training after his work for the England at the Toulon tournament this summer with the right frame of mind and was glad to be back in action as he posted on Instagram on Sunday "first day back, testing done before the hard work starts tomorrow"
I'm not sure how much action Grimes will see at the start of the season in the first team but I can certainly see some first team football for him this season and it is up to him to take the chance when it comes his way

Swans in another goal glut game but no finishing power If we look at the players who just are not performing for the Swans then three new bodies are needed come January. If these individuals can be replaced it may well give the Swans the lift they need, especially in games like today. Having said that the Swans had more than enough chances to win this game today.

Swansea City ready to increase misery on Pompey ? The last time Portsmouth played was on November 9th. That day they beat Preston 3-1. Bearing in mind that came before the International break and some twenty one days ago tomorrow they certainly do come into this game fresh.
Swansea City turn the tables on their bad luck & beat Derby I am going to make no apologies for this match report. The win was deserved, but how it came about after so many poor performances in the second half I will never know. I haven’t been watching football as long as some and I am delighted of course the Swans got the points. However, we have seen teams do that to us for a few seasons. Just maybe for once it was our turn ?
