Cardiff 1 Swansea 0 - How The Players Fared

The Swans were beaten at the Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon but how did the players fare against their local rivals. We give them our ratings and then ask you to do the same via our rate the players feature.

Michel Vorm

Had pretty much nothing to do all afternoon. Wasn't at fault for the goal and was never really called upon to make a save of note. Once he had taken Campbell out at the end there was only going to be one outcome and that was the red card that he received. One match ban awaits. 6

Angel Rangel

Not the best of games from Rangel today who never really seemed to be fully in the game. First half he was drawn out of position but Cardiff were unable to capitalise through the use of Bellamy. Defensively there was never much to do but he never really seemed to be in the attack either 6

Neil Taylor

I don't think Neil is back and fully match fit as yet and he certainly doesn't offer the attacking options that Ben does when he is in the side. Having said that with Routledge not on the best of form either he isn't getting the chance to overlap as he used to. 6

Chico Flores

It is difficult to be too critical of a defender who has had a quiet afternoon but Chico needs to spend less time getting involved in others arguments with the officials. Also another frankly embarrassing rolling around incident towards the end and it's deflecting from some of his play. 6

Ashley Williams

As with Chico had a quiet afternoon but when called upon he didn't really put much of a foot wrong. Won most of the duels with Odemwingie in the first half. 7

Leon Britton

Not Leon's best game of the season by any stretch of the imagination but then again he wasn't alone. Never really found himself fully involved in the game and for once I cannot say I was surprised to see him substituted today as it wasn't his day 6

Jonathan De Guzman

Only seems interested sometimes to commit to a ball that is 60/40 in his favour and definitely shys away from anything that is 50/50. There are times when he needs to show more urgency on the pitch and pressure their midfielders in the same way that they pressure ours. 5

Jonjo Shelvey

The early promise of Shelvey when he first arrived is being replaced by someone who gives the ball away too easily and doesn't seem to fit perfectly in our team. I still believe that in there is a good player waiting to get out but today we didn't see that good player. Didn't hug the post on the corner as Leon does on the back post but it was a good header so not going to be too critical for that. 5

Nathan Dyer

Go round the outside of the defender Nathan we know you have the ability so why don't you do it. Cuts inside and loses the ability to create by doing so. I know that is what we are asking him to do but every time? Really? I'm a big Nathan fan but it's just not happening for him at the moment 5

Wayne Routledge

If it isn't happening for Nathan then it certainly isn't for Wayne who looks completely out of sorts. Poor crossing and not creating as he used to. We need Pablo to be fit and challenging for the wide spots it may make our current occupants up. 5

Michu

I thought Michu would be one who would be totally up for today but it didn't seem to get him going as I thought it might. Couple of good chances early on but faded in the latter part of the first half and was replaced in the second after some off field treatment. 6

Wilfried Bony

Had a good shot but was ruled offside but I have to say that when he came on you definitely felt it should have been the right decision to start him. Having said that he never really threatened Marshall but did seem to cause problems in the Cardiff defence. 6

Alejandro Pozuelo

Started off in what is his preferred position when he came on and then moved to the wing. Never looked a threat today but didn't do a great deal wrong either 6

Alvaro Vazquez

Not on long enough to have any impact 6

In summary today we were just not really up for it enough for my liking. Cardiff fans used to say that Dave Jones never stirred his side enough for a derby and I think that was true of the Swans today. We probably deserved a draw but once we went a goal down you always felt that was it and so it proved. Something is missing at the moment, if anyone finds it please let them know at the Liberty.
