QPR v Blackburn Rovers — betting preview

The lads are back in business prior to this weekend’s game against Blackburn, looking for value there and in the other weekend sporting markets.

Brian slipped to £71.30 in the red with a largely blank week prior to Fulham - he did pull an each way success in the Arc though. Another week of near misses for Andy whose accumulator was let down by Bayern Munich and his ‘win to nil’ Chelsea bet fell foul of a 5-1 scoreline. He got refunds on a Zamora scores offer restricting his losses to £30 and taking his total to -£137.50. As for the pro, well odds compiler Owen Goulding kept up his record prior to Fulham by backing Southend to beat Shrewsbury, a third correct prediction in as many weeks. He did have QPR down for a draw at Craven Cottage though.

I made a bit of a startling discovery about half an hour ago. For the last two weeks I laboured under the misapprehension that my accumulator came in, and I made a profit last time out. Then, whilst writing a preview of the Bayern Munich game this weekend, I discovered that they actually drew at Hoffenheim last time out. Balls. I of course didn't win anywhere else last time out, because I didn't predict us losing 6-0 to Fulham. Balls again.

But it's not all doom and gloom, as Zamora scored the last goal of the 6, both my Draw and my SWP to score anytime bet were refunded. Small wins (or not losses?) and all that.

This week, we're at home against Blackburn, in a match that we should be looking to win. We’re actually slightly odds on for the win, which doesn't really appeal in terms of value. What does appeal however, is the HT draw, FT QPR result, available at 21/5 with Bodog. (Bad news mate, I’ve backed that in the match preview, so you’re doomed – ed)

For the same reasons that you keep the same lottery numbers every week, in that the one week you don't do it they come up, I'm going to stick with SWP to score anytime, available at 31/10 with Unibet. I'm keeping this bet every bloody week until he scores.

Elsewhere, and the game of the weekend is the game at Anfield between Liverpool and Man United. Liverpool have won three of the last four of these encounters at Anfield, but i feel that Man Utd will prevail here, and will back them at 6/4 with Paddy Power, backed by the safety net that Paddy Power will refund losing bets if Suarez scores.

Finally, my accumulator, and I've gone for a Continental five fold, going for Bayern Munich, Man City, Inter Milan, Lyon and Real Madrid all to win, available at 5.37 with Betfair.

For the Weekend:

QPR vs Blackburn - HT/FT Draw/QPR - £10 @ 21/5 (Bodog)

QPR vs Blackburn - SWP to score anytime - £5 @31/10 (Unibet)

Liverpool vs Man U - Man U to win - £10 @ 6/4 (Paddy Power)

Fivefold accumulator: Bayern Munich, Man City, Inter Milan, Lyon and Real Madrid all to win, £10 @ 5.37 (Betfair)

Previously Advised:

Rugby World Cup:

New Zealand to not win - £15 @ 6/4 (Various)

A return of £22.50 on Snow Fairy in the Arc was scant consolation in the aftermath of the last set of selections. Blackburn visit this week and it would be nice to get our first win against one of the teams I think will be fighting relegation this season. Rovers under the stewardship of Steve Kean seem to lurch from one issue to another but Rovers beat all 3 promoted sides away from home last year so don’t count your chickens (unlike the Blackburn owners). I fancy us to win but and as Blackburn are capable of scoring will go for a 3-1 win. I am going to go for a first scorer bet. SWP is due a goal he has been very unlucky and it will come so we will give him another go. I will also have a small wager on Jamie Mackie getting the last goal. Football has a history of things like this happening.

On Sunday there are a couple of potential draws with the Sheffield, Black Country and Midlands Derby. I also fancy Spurs to get a draw at Newcastle so will have a Yankee on these.

This week has seen the introduction of the new whip law and several jocks have copped bans already plus the farce regarding a race at Wetherby where 8 riders including Tony McCoy got 10 day bans. Richard Hughes has handed back his licence in protest and there is a planned strike for next Monday. It seems strange that the BHB never consulted the top riders before setting out the punishments for over use of the whip. All this controversy takes away the shine of a fantastic day of Racing at Ascot in the Champions Day and the National Hunt boys turn out at Cheltenham.

We will have a Lucky 15 across the card and a single on Tony McCoys mount Hangar Management in the first at Cheltenham.

The Pro

Well, it seems a while ago now but when I landed in Ibiza a couple of Sunday's ago and, anxious to find out the score, got a text from my Luton supporting brother gloating that QPR had conceded six in a top flight match. I was a bit shocked, I quickly sent one back reminding him that last time Luton conceded six in the top flight they were so bad even Paul Parker scored, and was then left to enjoy my break. Football throws up results like these now and again and it is easy to have knee jerk reactions to them. However, experience has taught me where betting is concerned, these 'blips' are to be noted, but not reacted upon. Fulham played well, whilst we were defensively terrible. This weekend gives the players the chance to put that right, and who better to face than against a team whose manager is about as popular as the decision was to play George Santos as a forward.

QPR are a shades of odds-on here and that seems about right to me. Blackburn won’t want to lose, and QPR will be desperate to win. Personally I think I would be favouring QPR slightly but the prices reflect this so I am looking at the goal scorer market for some value this week. There is no doubt we have looked a little suspect from set-pieces so far this season, and this week we come up against one of, if not the, best attacker of the ball in the Premiership. I hope I am wrong, but I see massive value in Unibet's 14/1 for Chris Samba to score at anytime this weekend. Let’s just hope some of our players put their shooting boots on as well.

Bet of weekend - Chris Samba to score anytime, 14/1 with Unibet.

Exclusive : Chaos in the Swans boardroom and chaos on the pitch : Sponsors leaving and so much more
We can only review one thing from yesterday’s game at Stoke City. To have to spend the focus it takes to put together and edit a report, ensure the licensing and stats are correct, takes time. So this morning we thought we would take the option that it seems Swansea City take while the club drops towards League One.

Swansea City : Luke puts his foot in it again !
Swansea City seem to have recruited a smooth operator in Richard Montague. He is now at the club in an official capacity. So, what does he bring and what are his strengths ? After all he assembled a Notts County squad which at their level gave the club and its supporters something to be really proud of.
The crazy spiral the Swans find themselves in : Stoke City pre match
Swansea City will be travelling north from west Wales today in preparation for tomorrow afternoon’s away fixture against Stoke City. It’s a must win for both sides who are quite frankly dreadful over their past ten games, so much so they are both right in the relegation mix.
Richard Montague : Nothing to do with me says Williams plus that offside goal
Despite giving him an incredible reference, Swans head coach Luke Williams has stated the appointment of Richard Montague as some form of football director was nothing to do with him. We will also have a look at that Jay Fulton disallowed goal last night.

Swans v Owls : Darling gifts the points to Sheffield Wednesday
Whatever it was that made head coach, Luke Williams choose his starting eleven against Sheffield Wednesday it was clear to many it wasn’t going to work. Overall this was a very poor display yet again by the Swans as all the hope from Sunday disappeared into nothing. This Swansea side is simply not being equipped enough to win Championship football matches.
