Fair play to him - Nick London was a big part of QPR and it felt a bit harsh when he was unceremoniously dumped but young Tyler has been excellent. Great to see his passion there, he does a few commentaries for other teams but he’s clearly caught the bug
I get the feeling if we had had NDM on our team back in the day we wouldn’t have been stung for 25m (despite being guilty as sin)
What a shambles this situation now is.
Man City and Chelsea acting with impunity in the Prem, Birmingham doing what they want in Div 1, while every club in the Championship seems to be under minute scrutiny every season. Three different rules for three different leagues
Aristocats in the ABC in Ealing Broadway I think was my first one.
The early one that sticks in the memory was when we went on a holiday to Barbados when I was about 8 and there was a cinema club that was outside at night, surrounded by trees / woods. My parents dropped me off there and fked off to the all-inclusive drinks and I proceeded to watch Silver Bullet, an 18 certificate werewolf film by Stephen King where a werewolf prowls dark woods eating people in various gory ways. I shat myself and was traumatised for days/weeks/years.
Not big money but my favourite bet was putting £20 on Ireland to beat Italy at 5-1 in the US World Cup, a lot of money to me back then. The winnings kept me and my mates in beer for the rest of the tournament
The other one that sticks in the head was £1 on Darren Peacock to score first goal at 50-1 against Wimbledon at home. The big man did me proud
When I was first courting the future Mrs Queensparker I popped in a bookies in Brighton and won about £300 on an unfeasible 8 way accumulator, we blew the lot on a very nice meal and drinks that night. I think she thought she was onto a good thing, hasn’t happened again for 20 years
It wasn’t a small percentage of people calling Eze lazy etc in his first seasons, it was a great deal of people. I saw and heard him take a load of stick on a regular basis
If you’re not a 100% Sam Field type you’re going to get a lot of moaning if you don’t deliver
Haven’t seen Madsen play live yet so can’t really contribute but it was great play for both the goals against Luton
Interesting all this and I would have to agree on the role of the modern centre forward - it’s got to to be the most thankless task on the pitch these days
Your main role seems to be chasing around constantly in a “forward press” while the oppo pass back and forth at the back. Endless running which 99% of the time will be basically pointless
Your secondary role is to battle with 2/3 centre backs for long clearances with no other centre forward alongside you, so the odds are low you’re going to get anywhere
When your team does attack, putting in early crosses is now out of fashion so if a winger does get in a crossing position the odds are they’re going to cut back or pass it into the D. On the rare occasion they put in a classic 90s cross you’re supposed to have made that run despite it being a waste of time the last 9 times you did it
Meanwhile you’re expected to score 15-20 goals a season somehow
A lot of Championship centre forwards now are distractions to allow the rest of the team to play. Lyndon wasn’t bad at that
When Oasis first came out they were fkin amazing - I saw them in places like the Palais and the Duchess of York pub in Leeds and they blew me and and mates away. What a band and what a time
Definitely Maybe I wore out my Walkman on, the second album I played to death
I dunno though the Knebworth gig was a sea of rude tw-ts and bad coke lads and no women and the magic kind of left me for Oasis then
Saw them a couple of times in the late 90s and it felt empty.
They were a spectacular band for the time but I don’t think they’ve dated well
The thing is Dykes never ever gets on the end of crosses
Whether he’d flourish with Dembele etc now as the supply line is a question but the evidence of the last three years is that he’d continue to be nowhere near the ball. He’s a good bloke etc and got a nice goal last week but we should know by now, he does have the odd nice goal in him every 15 games, but that’s it.
Celar skied a few chances but was in there and created one for himself with a lovely quick turn.
Let’s not turn Dykes into another all-time QPR great now he’s no longer getting picked
Random one but love driving the lap around Regents Park - wide roads, never any traffic, lovely houses and scenery, and you’re right in the middle of London.
Can’t imagine we’ll be able to drive round it much longer
In the sea of shite we had through the club around then he really sticks in the mind. Mainly because he’d played a decent amount of games for Man Utd, was mind blowing how crap he was
