I think that the article is a bit harsh on Abdulai. IMO he needs a loan move and to be played as a central midfielder. As for the loanees, they can go back to their clubs. We clearly won't be paying for top dollar loanees, but if we go down that route they at least need to be capable of improving the match day squad. |

Nothing wrong with the style of football. You just need to have players with the skill set and confidence to play it for the division you are playing in. Like any system. With us it was hit and miss. Southampton in the championship had better players than most opponents so were a hit. In the Premier League their defenders get punished for mistakes they could often get away with in the championship. The players capable of playing the way Russ wants to play in the Premier League are probably out of Southampton's budget at the moment. They needed to survive this season any way they could to build that type of squad. As for Man City, no pace in central midfield ; easy to counter attack because of that and no Rodri to cover the cracks. As the cracks are visible to opponents players have lost confidence. Possession with a purpose to probe has become possession for possessions sake and ""without confidence players make poor decisions under pressure, especially pressure of their own making. Poor recruitment has put them in this position. Let Palmer go when he should have been developed as the De Bruyne replacement, bought Phillips as a back up for Rodri and when he didn't work out brought back Gundogan whose legs are gone. Walker is being exposed in ways he hasn't been previously. No real option to Harland after selling Alvarez etc. Potentially a couple of signings can restore solidity and regain confidence. Confidence is a big part of successful teams, I don't think we have it either. |

There was also an allegation in the Sun that ahead of a game he told a friend he would book a specific Leeds player. He booked the player, deservedly so by all accounts, but allegedly subsequently had "banter" about whether the friend had put a bet on the player being booked. If those conversations took place, even if it was "banter" based on his experience that the Leeds player was likely to do something that merited a booking in the game, it was extremely foolish on his part. He was leaving himself wide open to accusations that he was manipulating a betting result, even if he did not profit from it, if details ever came out. IMHO if those conversations were believed to have taken place the PGMOL would consider that to be far more serious than any allegation of drug use or not liking Klopp. |

To me it was telling that Portsmouth didn't seem interested in getting him back. |

When I think of clubs that travelled 3 hours or more and came looking for it down the Vetch Middlesbrough Leeds, Stoke, Chelsea and Bognor Regis are the main ones that spring to mind. There were others but those 5 dtand out for different reasons. I was in the Paxton when the rumour started that there were riots going on before the Bognor game and didn't believe it. Bognor didn't have a reputation so why would they come here and perform big time? One of my mates said that he wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't Pompey looking to say hello for our visit to their place. For them to do that we must have really would them up when we went to Fratton Park. |

My memories of the 1984 game are that Mark Hateley was pretty much unplayable, Alan Biley scored a hat trick and we had a really good turnout behind the goals that kept singing even though we were getting hammered on the pitch. Jaffa's the fattest - fattest in Europe. Nobody, fans or police, was prepared for what happened at the Bognor game. |

Hopefully something will come off, although January can be a tricky and expensive window. Pato moved on and so should we; part of our past not our future. |

The report on his time at Portsmouth didn't give a lot of confidence; additionally Portsmouth didn't seem interested in a return. |

The championship is a hard and unforgiving league. Many players take a while to adapt to the physical demands of the league and some never do. A run of games will give te answer one way or another. |

It doesn't help when you have officials that can't tell the difference between being physical and looking to do a player. |

I think that we also need somebody that can give the banjo to the strikers. |

The championship is a tough league, it's physical, the games are relentless and a midweek game away in winter isn't everyone's cup of tea. It is probably easier to scout a player who has the ability to play in the league but harder to judge whether they have the physicality and mentality to play in it. Every transfer is a gamble but overseas ones, whilst inevitably cheaper, have a higher risk to them. |
