| Forum Thread | Saturday's Game at 08:12 16 Jan 2017
I have returned, not to rub salt in the wounds, but to say what a good game that was. Either side could have won it late on and had it not been for one of our players, (I'm not sure who made the goal line clearance after our winner), you could easily have come away with a point. You deserved something from that performance, but its always harder when reduced to ten, as we were too. Anyone who was there on Saturday will probably agree with me when I say the ref was awful. In my opinion, the only things he got right were both red cards (or, your red and McGlashan's two yellows). When you equalised it appeared to me as if Andrew had begun to jog back, preparing for a goal kick (which was odd, it would have been a corner), before realising it was in! A tough game for us. I would have settled for a point, and believe me, if I had made the four and a half hour trip up to your place to see us play as well as you did, then concede in the 93rd minute, I'd be devastated. Still, I was there last season when you thumped us 4-1! Our games don't get any easier. You'll probably be keeping an eye on our results as well as your own because these are our next four: Bolton (H), Fleetwood (A), Scunthorpe (H), Millwall (A). Lastly, I thought it was a fitting tribute to Graham Taylor and of course, young Joshua McCormack. No-one should have to go through that, particularly at such a young age. RIP. Best of luck for the rest of the season (unless your results affect our league position!) Over and out, see you next season. |

Southend fan here, in peace. As far as I am aware, there are no rail works going on at the moment, so those of you travelling by train should get to Prittlewell station with ease. Alternatively, if you get the train right through to Southend Victoria, this provides easier access to the town centre, should you need or want to grab a bite to eat. Parking: if you aren't travelling by train, it is mainly street parking near the ground, although you are able to park in "The Victoria" shopping centre car park (which is located near Southend Victoria train station). Southend High School for Boys also provides parking. Lunch: It is roughly a 15 minute walk from the ground to the high street (town centre), if you wanted to go to the seafront or the high street itself. There are two McDonalds, a KFC & a Burger King in the high street. However, there is a fish & chip shop right near the ground, opposite the estate agents (near the church entrance). There is also a Toby Carvery (AKA The Bell Pub) on the A127, about a 30 minute walk from the ground. Drinking: There are two pubs close to the ground, (both are under 5 minutes walk away from the ground). These are The Blue Boar & The Spread Eagle. The Blue Boar is for away fans only on match day, so this pub will be your base up until kick-off. The Spread Eagle is for home fans only on match days. If travelling by train, "The Railway" pub near the exit of Prittlewell station (I think) is open for away fans as well as home fans. If you wish to know anything else, I'm more than happy to help. Safe trip to all who are coming down here for the game. |
| Forum Thread | Col U v Southend - Match Preview at 07:56 1 Feb 2016
All, I write Southend United match previews for www.leigh-on-sea.com and each week I attempt to get the views of opposition fans ahead of the game. If I could ask one, two or however many of you to answer the questions below, that would be great. Questions... 1. What is your name and how long have you supported Colchester? 2. What are your views on how the season has gone for you so far? 3. Who has been your most impressive player and why? 4. Which result have you been most pleased with so far and why? 5. What are your views on Southend United? 6. Are there any teams in League One who have surprised you? 7. Links - What do you think of former Colchester and current Southend full backs John White and Ben Coker? 8. Where do you expect both Colchester and Southend to finish this season? 9. If you are attending the game, will this be your first visit to Roots Hall? 10. Score Prediction for the game Safe trip to all attending the game on Saturday. Cheers |

If it wasn't obvious, that was a game of two halves. We were better in the first and you were better in the second. The triple substitution at half time changed the game completely. Bunney's goal was deflected and an excellent free kick from Rose to equalise late on. I thought you would go on to win the game but thankfully (from my point of view), you didn't! I think we can all agree the ref was a bit pants. We can't seem to hold onto a lead. That's our last two games we've taken the lead and have ended up drawing. Best of luck for the rest of the season (apart from our game at Spotland!) [Post edited 2 Nov 2015 7:54]

| Forum Reply | Gillingham away - away following at 15:01 30 Oct 2015
Obviously, I'm not a Dale fan, but when we went to Gills last week, they had boxes of rain ponchos for fans to help themselves to. Not sure if they are always there or if they base it on the weather forecast beforehand. That stand is still a load of rubbish! There were cobwebs on it this time as well... As some of you will know and will probably expect, the whole "Gillingham Experience" is made much better with three points. (or in our case, three points until they score a fluke equaliser in the 89th minute, which came from a free kick that shouldn't have been given) Enough moaning! I think you'll take a fair few down, but will probably be based on your results around the time as to how many you take. My guess is that you'll bring around 250-300 tomorrow [Post edited 30 Oct 2015 15:02]

The train should be okay, can't see it being too busy. Here is a link to the train times departing from Prittlewell, terminating at Liverpool Street: http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/PRL/LST/tomorrow/1715/dep Food in the ground isn't too bad to be honest, but its up to you. I'd personally go to The Fish House (opposite the Blue Boar on the left - yellow sign - If you're coming down by train, which I assume you are, you'll end up walking past The Fish House anyway) or one of the fast food restaurants in the town centre. There's also a McDonalds at Liverpool Street (Last Season's Wembley memories!...) [Post edited 30 Oct 2015 12:32]

Before tomorrow, is there anything else anyone needs/wants to know? Like me, if you collect pin badges from each ground you go to, our club shop sells them. I think £3 each, same price as the matchday programme. Yes, I do have a Rochdale badge! |

As somewhat of a history bod, i've been researching players to have played for or spent time at both Blues & Dale. I've come up with this list so far: Matt Lund Steve Collis (has he actually played for you?) Brian Barry-Murphy Will Atkinson Luke Daniels Liam Dickinson Blair Sturrock Any more? |

I believe so, that'll be the pub near Kursaal Bowling. (The Foresters Arms) If anyone is down here for the weekend, there's a few things to keep you busy...theme park (Adventure Island), crazy golf, the pier, etc. Adventure Island is quite pricey, but it's more than worth it. A whole range of rides for kids along with 5 rollercoasters (one of which is a kids coaster) What a way to recover from a defeat, eh?! Seriously though, i reckon it'll be a draw, but if either team wins, it will only be by one goal. |

For the record, there is also a McDonalds at Southend Airport/Industrial estate next to the airport! This, however is a 20-30 minute walk from the ground. And no worries, i'm more than happy to help. and cheers! I thought we'd be bottom half. Didn't expect us to be in the top half at this stage, let alone just outside the playoffs! |

Unfortunately, you'll have to prove you are a Southend fan in order to get into the Spread Eagle. They doormen at "The Spread" check match tickets along with what shirt/scarf/hat you are wearing. You can thank the mob who caused trouble outside the Spread before our game with Cambridge last season. Before then, it was open to both sets of fans. |
