Recession. The easiest excuse to use. If CD's other business interests are being affected is he just sitting there saying "never mind, its the recession". Of course not. He will/would be pulling out all the stopps to make ends meet. Got to wonder what the difference is haven't you.

Buckets out again

Perhaps Tazzy would like to help the club out by going across and borrowing the buckets when they have finished with them.

So no point in the trust acquiring more shares. Only voting share would count in a block proposal me thinks.

Judd. Just out of interest if the trust acquired further shares would they all be non voting?

Well if its the easy one it is easy. The other one would be far more difficult unless the ST has the means of becoming more aggressive. Non voting shares are basically worthless when it comes to trying to push a decision (sorry. I know that you know).

442. From the previous comments it looks like the club wouldn't take any more heed if there were thousands of members. There must be a reason for the 'stand off' by the board towards the ST. Either the board are convinced that they can sort out low attendances themselves without ST assistance (assuming they want to) or there's some sort of personality clash. One is easy to deal with and one is a lost cause

Well, if there is no goodwill left, there appears to be only two options. Wind up the ST at the end of the season once membership benefits expire and disburse the accumulated monies in line with the trust articles or take a more aggressive stance. If there is anyone with sufficient shares to get on board that would be a start. Unless we can get more home support than 1600 we could always go to the new Aldi Woodland store and show support that way!

Then the only other way if doing it, if indeed there is any goodwill left between parties is to NOT put action plans into their hands but to sit down with them with a clean sheet and let them instigate the discussion. If the board have no interest in the opinions and suggestions of the ST, then at that stage the ST should make it clear that they have no further confidence in the board and would have to seriously consider its own mandate in any financial support of the club. No point banging on a closed door.

Doris, I'm not familiar with how the ST present their opinions to the board and certainly have no wish to upset anybody, but in the interest of the club as a whole, could they approach the board to request what help could be offered and what specific feedback the board require. That approach puts the ball firmly in their court. The reaction may be different from receiving what could be seen as a list of un solicited items. (No offense meant, but you know what some management are like)

I dont pretend to have any answer, but the simple fact that only 1700 could be encouraged into the game (inc away fans) means that all is not well for a variety of reasons. The business needs to understand why. They have a Supporters Trust to help them with that. They have to use any source they can and sort the wheat from the chaff. A business plan is no use if it alienates your customers, even if you think them wrong.

Exactly. But unfortunately its not really 'our club' its a business run by directors. If they cannot see that there is a serious problem with its client base (supporters ) and listen to those clients then there wont be a club to call our own. Its up to them to listen. There is no difference between a shop with no customers and a football club with no customers. Neither will survive unless directors / owners change things themselves.

No, wait...... we are supposed to turn up and pay money when we are not happy bunnies? In any other business the directors would listen to their customers. That doesn't happen at dale. There is a complete silence about what the business is doing to attract customers, new or old. As is happening at the moment customers are not turning up. Its all very well looking in from a distance.

Coleman on GMR
at 20:12 8 Dec 2012

And unfortunately Coleman isn't clever enough to keep that thought to himself just in case it is taken out of context. The more sensible solution would be not to say it at all because if you under a bit of fire, anybody with an ounce of sense would realise that somebody would jump on the comment whether in context or not.
