Tall Paul up front with Archer, although Paul couldn't be described as a presser, let's get 10 or 12 good crosses into the box and give him a chance to score. |

So you're not standing by your earlier knee-jerk comment then? "You know exactly how this goes Continued abject failure, nailed on relegation, his 6 months is up and bring in another coach for the championship We really do never fkn learn that doing it in the cheap means only one thing" |

Maybe he could get a tune out of ABK instead of Stephens. |

Ivan Juric formation It is clear from his lengthy spell at Torino, Juric typically lines up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. This formation is slowly becoming more and more popular in the top flight of English football, with Manchester United's Ruben Amorim also preferring a back three setup. Ideally for Juric, Southampton's interim manager for the Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Liverpool, Simon Rusk, opted for a three at the back formation, meaning the players are already somewhat familiar with the idea. Ivan Juric tactics and philosophy The Croatian often opts for man-to-man marking, which requires his players to be aggressive and reactive in their duels. When on the offense, Juric prioritises the use of his wing-backs, who he likes to offer width, taking up crossing positions. While a 3-4-2-1 formation can often be regarded as setup that doesn't allow players to express themselves, this is not the case with Juric. Not only does he give his wing-backs the license to exploit space on the wings, but he also likes the two attacking midfielders behind the centre forward to move freely, often interchanging with the striker. Duvan Zapata was a key element in Juric's setup at Torino, as his ability to drop deep and take defenders out of the game left space in behind for other attacking outlets. Saints fans were becoming understandably frustrated under Russell Martin, giving away unnecessary goals due to overplaying at the back. Juric, however, won't stand for complacent errors, and will aim to ensure his team are compact and hard to beat, dissimilar to the Southampton team we have seen in recent months. Who will play under Ivan Juric? Despite Southampton's league position suggesting otherwise, Juric has an array of talent at his disposal who, under the right man, could be taken to the next level. A player who could have a huge role in Juric's team is Kyle Walker-Peters. The attacking minded full-back could be an effective outlet on either side, possessing the pace to really hurt the opposition. Yukinari Sugawara could partner Walker-Peters on the opposite flank. For a short period, Flynn Downes was talked up to be Declan Rice's replacement at West Ham. Instead, Southampton now have his services, and the energetic, hard working midfielder could thrive in a more compact setup. A player who would likely thrive under any manager is Tyler Dibling. Dibling has enjoyed his breakthrough season at the Saints, playing the majoirty of his minutes from right wing. He does, however, have the ability to play in a more central role and could be deployed as one of the two attacking midfielders behind the striker. Juric could have the opportunity to strengthen in the January transfer window but, for now, this is how Southampton could line up under Juric. Possible strongest Southampton starting XI under Ivan Juric (3-4-2-1): Ramsdale, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens, Sugawara, Walker-Peters, Downes, Ugochukwu, Dibling, Fernandes, Archer. Interesting times ahead. |

Well Armstrong is good at pressing and Tall Paul could pick off the high balls...you never know. It would be nice to see the opposition making mistakes in their penalty area rather than us. Anything is better than the dross we've endured. As Nick says, it's key that he has an assistant that knows the PL to guide him. |

He'd be my choice too, but everyone on here has to get real, he turned down a job at AFC Ajax, so he's not coming to Saints in our current position. |
| Forum Reply | Corberan West Brom saints interested at 09:25 18 Dec 2024
I'm thinking Corberan over Danny Rohl, he's had more experience in the Championship and done well to get West Brom to the play-offs twice on a tight budget. He's won and drawn 66% of his games. 242 games 82 defeats. Moyes and Potter won't risk it, the only others with PL experience are O'Neil who's shell shocked, and Cooper who doesn't fit SR profile .....but could do a good job. |

Be realistic! If you were Potter would you come here? He can wait for West Ham where he'll get more money to spend on players, or go to another a medium sized club that isn't in immediate danger of relegation. |
| Forum Reply | Rohl at 19:10 16 Dec 2024
And he'll get the parachute payments to spend on new players to mould HIS team. |

Fonte and Lallana have to be ruled out for their lack of managerial experience, Potter and Moyes won't risk their reputations on a club that is destined to go down. Leaving up and coming Championship managers or a punt on a someone from abroad. Danny Rohl knows the club, was involved in Ralph's first year, his most successful, and it was noticeable that we struggled after Rohl left. He's had top level experience as the assistant at Bayen Munich and saved Sheffield Wednesday from relegation last year. This year they're near the play-off places. So taking the Saints job would see him still in the Championship next year but with greater resources and parachute payments to buy his choice of players and properly mould the team in his image. He will also gain valuable PL this season and just maybe....might pull off a miracle. |

You are soooo defeatist! If Moyes instilled some basics we could have won today. We could have won at Brighton, that would have given us 5 more points and taken us above Ipswich and Wolves, within easy reach of the next 4! It can still be done but SR need to take their finger out of their arse. |
| Forum Reply | WHY?! at 19:24 7 Dec 2024
How ironic, quite a few times when Lumley kicked it long we won the second ball, and when we didn't get it, the ball was miles from our goal. Better to lose it upfield than in our own penalty area. He is an utter duck. |

How many mistakes at the back today? I'd say 2 leading to goals, with another 4 risky passes that could have been disastrous. WE MARCH/PASS BACK. |
