Oliver Hartley Basingstoke 13:47 - May 7 with 4684 views | Mattnme | I heard he is under 21 and scored 42 goals last season, supposed to be joining the R's. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone seen him play?

Never understood the Hewitt signing. There were better players in the Ryman league at the time. And just like him have faded right out.Except that kid at Dulwich Hamlet whose name escapes me...... Have got spies in the non league, will try and find out more about the Basingstoke laddie.

Oliver Hartley Basingstoke on 14:35 - May 7 with 4535 views | VancouverHoop | John Frendo of Hitchin Town was non-league football's top scorer this past season with 42 goals. (see last weekend's 'non-league paper.') So Hartley's goals must include friendlies etc. At 21 he could be worth a look however, Frendo's 29.
Oliver Hartley Basingstoke on 16:38 - May 7 with 4449 views | rsonist | I've got no problem whatsoever with the Troy Hewitt signing. Might not have worked out but I'd much rather we took the gamble than not, considering the pittance he'd have cost us.

He doesn't exist. Basingstoke do have the wonderfully named Jordace Holder-Spooner though. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Ah, right. We'll have to take Frendo then. Four year contract doesn't sound unreasonable

There's always talent in the lower leagues, if you have a good scouting network you can pick up some gems. Not sure we have that in place right now, but I'd rather take a couple of young hungry players with something to prove on trial than hand out 4 year contracts to journeymen looking for one last payday...

Many examples down the years: Cyrille Regis, Jason Roberts, Chris Smalling, Stuart Pearce, Stan Collymore, John Barnes and many more. I've no bones with the Troy Hewitt signing. Sometimes you may have to sign one or two who don't make it to find the next Les Ferdinand or Ian Wright.

Oliver Hartley Basingstoke on 08:59 - May 8 with 4085 views | TGRRRSSS | When did anyone pick up a player from such a level as that though and they have the success as Wright and Ferdinand did? Smalling is the only one in about a decade to make it this high up say top 2 divisions. Fewer and fewer will make it now coming through from below. I think there is some talent for sure at lower level but not that much.
