Seventy Five million pounds for the Coronation on 14:27 - Nov 22 with 1005 views | johnlangy | I don't understand how anyone could argue it was worth it. This is such a strange country in so many ways, that so many people can be left hungry but then that amount of money is spent on a medieval ceremony.

John I believe it’s because of the money that they bring in. I don’t get it I never have. We are paying millions upon moons for an extended family and hierarchy and then hope. Visitors spend their money on hotels and food outlets which they would do had we not a Royal system as it is. They come for the buildings. We are told we have to expect pain but this does not apply to them. It never has . Even during the war, Queen and King George V1 visited the battered bombed east end in their fineries then fooked off back to their palace .

If a certain poster can post nonsense then why can't I. IMO the Royal family had the opportunity to make significant changes went when the late Queen passed away. yes its slimmed down some what but the main players excluded themselves through their behaviour ,changes forced rather than planned. If the King wanted a follow tradition and with-it the costs then they should if not all but a significant amount from his pocket rather than ours.

You're right ohl. The tourists would still come. All those centuries of history, which so many of them come to explore, wouldn't just disappear because the royals have been dethroned. And most of them don't come because of the royals anyway. It's mostly art galleries, museums and castles.
Seventy Five million pounds for the Coronation on 17:40 - Nov 22 with 930 views | Dr_Winston | It's not a huge amount of money really. Around 14% of the daily NHS budget. For comparison, an F35B fighter jet costs about £90m. It's probably also worth noting that a lot of the money would have been paid anyway in the salaries of the service and emergency personnel who were involved. For example, £22m of it was Policing costs.

Maybe so but those emergency services personnel would be doing their normal jobs helping the public and not stationed close to where the ceremony is waiting, just in case. How many police will be out of their normal areas? At a time when we are short of police too. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Don't get me wrong, I'm staunchly Republican, but people getting their knickers in a twist over what would basically be a rounding error when it comes to daily Government expenditure isn't the best argument against the system.

Opinions eh. Mine is that every penny wasted is just wasted whatever reasons are given. Save 75 million on this, save hundreds of millions on their funding by making them private citizens, open up ALL the royal properties to tourism, keep the pomp and ceremony for the tourists like other countries have done. When you are broke and looking for savings surely every penny counts?

Seventy Five million pounds for the Coronation on 21:25 - Nov 22 with 845 views | Gwyn737 | I’m pretty ambivalent towards the royal family. I don’t t really care about them but realise that for millions of people, they (and their events) bring some much needed joy. If we’re waiting for tax just to be spent on exactly the things we see as important, we’re going to be waiting a long time.

I agree…sort of. However after all the Pro this Anti that demonstrations that have taken…and taking place in London and elsewhere every single day/weekend, whatever day it is, puts the Coronation into perspective really.

Or…. A very small percentage of farmers are having to make plans to sort out paying (or not) half the amount of IHT of everyone else. I agree that the likes of James Dyson and Jeremy Clarkson are being caught. Good.

Same way that sport, music and art does. We could compare everything we personally don't like that cost money to the amount of something else it could pay for but for me, that’s a really miserable way to live.

That is rich coming from someone continually living in the past and bringing up imagined grievance from 100s of years ago.

Most of the £75 millon cost went on paying wages to keep people in jobs. I wonder how much found its way back into the government coffers through income tax, Ni and VAT. A huge boost to tourisms and foriegn visitors spending their money in hotels, restaurants etc. A huge boost to the economy and publicity for tourism in this country.

Oh the grievances aren't imagined but you can't keep spouting off about them 600 years later. It's just ppointless and deluded. 600 years ago is long gone and nothing that happened then can be changed. I agree though, people need to liuve in the present and try to make the future better. It'll never catch on though.

Well,we disagree. Personally, looking at the bugger picture,it is nothing but grotesque I find it incredible that you fully support this show of pomp It is 2024 We don’t have an Empire anymore It’s a shame we ever did as we wouldn’t have the issues we have now
