McCarthy is not the only one who is not good at playing tippy tippy across the back.
His defenders are not much better at it than he is & are partly to blame.
We just don't have the quality to play out from the back successfully.
I think we could get by with McCarthy, he's a decent shot stopper, if we stopped trying to copy Man City by playing the risky stuff at the back & just got back to basics.
RM needs to accept that most of his players have limitations & stop expecting them to play a game that they are not comfortable with.

Before the tippy tappy football limitations of McCarthy he didn't have a reputation as a good shot stopper either, both at the end of our relegation season when he replaced Bazunu, he was no better in the shots saved ratio than the man he replaced.
Likewise initially at the end of the season just gone, intially he was just as bad, 5 goals at Leicester being an example

He didn't do too bad at the end of last season & he saved us from an absolute hammering against Forest on Saturday.
My point was that our defenders are not equipped to play RM's tippy tippy football so it doesn't matter whose in goal we'll continue to leak goals. | | | |
