How will we cope if Bright leaves in January? 09:19 - Nov 28 with 5074 viewsknocker

Certainty looks that way. Most of our threats come from him. So we either get a few quid in January (have to hope there's more than one team interested). If he signs a pre contract with someone to leave at end of season, will he still put in a shift for us?

He's been a real threat the last few games.
I can see lots of interest from clubs.
Lots of rumours of bids from Celtic and Rangers. He would rip that league apart.

It’s a big loss obviously but we’ve got Adomah. Kakay played there as a kid I believe. Shodipo and Smyth to come back. None of which are half as threatening but we’ve got more cover than throughout the spine of the team.

Got to hope that if he is definitely going and he is, someone pays a fee in January and not a pre contract so he goes for free at end of season.

We already bought Willock as his replacement

Very difficult to replace directly, such an athlete. Willock and Adomah both look decent so far, though. Not to mention Thomas.

I watched him really closely last night and was wondering why he hasn’t moved on.

For all the skills and talent I thought too many times he gets himself into trouble and has to pass back 5 yards. He does draw attention to himself with 2/3 players and that leaves spaces and teammates open, be part of that process.

You never want to knock skill out of a player. Therefore is he being coached and encouraged to make better decisions. Playing at a level above means doing something with more end results then playing for Rangers.

George Thomas I’m hoping.

We’ve not seen much of him but they don’t give Welsh caps out in Corn Flake boxes do they?

We brought Bright after a similar career so here’s hoping.

In the new QPR calendar, Bright is one of the January players...

He'll be gone by the end of January, make no mistake about that.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Such a shame that we have to let our best players go. Oh what could have been had we taken the current approach to finding and developing players a number of years ago when we had a few quid and wouldn't have necessarily needed to sell

Totally agree!only had to to watch his body language when Dykes equalised, not a smile, gesture, anything.
I’m sure he’ll be on his way In January.

Will he be gone in January?

Perhaps he will, but why do you think clubs will want him then, when they didn't pre-season?

If it is true that he is likely to go to Glasgow, he will definitely be here until the end of the season. Maybe the Rangers/Celtic interest is just agent/media talk though.

Not very well I fear. BOS is the only player of ours that Brentford and probably most other teams in our division would give anything for. He makes things happen, he’s become a rolls Royce type player in the championship. Opposition defenders are scared of him, he makes things happen through sheer strength and speed. He’ll make it in the premiership, no doubt. We have some talented players - Willock looks decent, Chair is class and Dykes has potential, but at the moment none of them are in the BOS league. A player that can receive the ball to feet in their own half and within 10 seconds be winning you a corner, scoring a goal or setting up a chance. He’s a handful and we have nobody that comes close. When he goes we will be a much weaker team, how much weaker remains to be seen.

We will undoubtedly miss his pace and strength and will have to adapt. It maybe over time that we can manage this and actually get more crosses in, as well as feeding Dykes more of the earlier balls that he has shown he does well with, for Scotland and for us on Friday.

We could play with wingbacks and two strikers, or Dykes with Chair pushed further up, on a regular basis, if we don't have an out and out winger of the same or slightly lesser quality. This might suit the right footed Willock who mostly comes inside anyway.

The squad is still very thin and we either have to give minutes to more younger players, Bettache, Alfa etc or recruit one or two in January.

How will we cope? Like we always cope. Good players have left all the time, happens to all clubs.
We just have to ensure we do it right, buy low... sell high. Keeps the club ticking over.
No more sugar daddies (and we even made a pigs of that) so as long as we can invest in the youth then we’ll be fine.
I’m sure the club knows which players are likely to leave and will adjust personnel and tactics accordingly. No different to an office environment, people leave and new people join and you adjust and keep going.

Agree Juzzie but the problem is an acute one if he goes in January.

It will mean we have got some money for him but we won't be able to replace his quality immediately and it is tough to change to a new system mid season.

Having just finished reading the match thread,( I tend to stay of it until the next day and there were 22 pages ), someone reminded me that Brentford had switched to a 343. That might be a possibility, maybe we can find that elusive cb that we didn't get in the summer, and have some extra competition for three at the back. Niko and Kane/Kakay could play as wing backs with Cameron/Ball and Carroll as centre mid and Willock and Chair just behind Dykes.

I agree he's worth money to a Championship team, but not so sure about the PL.

Traore at Wolves took a while to be effective and still is a bit hit and miss and (at the moment) he is far better player than Bright.

BOS gives us an added dimension with his pace and forward thrust. Without him we are often laboured, playing it around endlessly to little effect. Really hope he stays. I saw that stuff about him heading to Glasgow - would anyone really want to join Celtic at the moment? I assume he's a Catholic as I've seen him cross himself at matches - surely he wouldn't join the other mob then.

Lower Loft - you're right.
On a previous post I wrote (see below re:contracts - updated)
That's why when BOS goes we'll be fine.
Yes a bit weakened but some of the new boys are improving especially Willock.

Add a CB (cos we only have 3 at the mo) and a couple of others - and we'll be top 10 material (depending on injuries/red cards etc).
And that's based on recent performances - that's if we can maintain the standard for 90 minutes instead of 45.

CONTRACTS
We have at least seven players, some with long term contracts, that can improve to top 6 Championship level or even higher.
Dieng, age 26, contract expires June 2024
Kakay, 23, June 2024
Hamaleinen, 23, June 2024
Dickie, 24, June 2024
Dykes, 25, June 2024
Chair, 23, June 2023
Willock, 22, June 2023
-
BOS, 22, (on his way out!), June 2021

Then we have the possibles that may improve and have long term contracts:-
Masterson, 22, June 2023
Bonne, 25, June 2023
and of course Amos, 23, June 2023, when he hopefully returns.

Then we have the solids - the glue - the experience required
Kane, Cameron, Barbet, Ball (whose only 25), Carroll and Adomah;

Then we have the untried
Thomas, 23, June 2023
Bettache, 20, June 2023
Alfa, 21, June 2023
Kelman, 19, June 2023

I'm optimistic.

Aside from a religious faction present among supporters, Celtic has never been sectarian when it comes to players or staff. This was pointed out to me on a number of occasions when visiting Glasgow in my youth and, from reading bio's of their sporting hero's eg, Jock Stein, Danny McGrain and Kenny Dalglish etc, obviously so.

Beasting the defence of Ross County 4 times a year does not constitute a step up in standard IMO .
