This could be and probably is rubbish but somebody told me today that the groundsman has been sacked.

Have they said when they realised they'd put the wrong sand base down?

From the OS statement:

"In July 2016, there was an issue with the instalment of a fibresand pitch, due to a wrong mix."

Look, I'm not 'having a go' at you, I'm just trying to establish clarity. The Feb 17 pitch relay had to be soil-based for one reason only - due to the July 2016 error, which resulted in deterioration at a time of year when fibresand wouldn't work

Let's move on

I have looked without success for a statement about the pitch on the official site I have also asked several times on here for a link to a club statement that has been mentioned about the state of the pitch. I can only conclude that there has not been one. I have read the Dale Trust report and mention was made about the pitch but I would not be the only one to miss the relevant part about the mix being wrong back in 2016 or any comment as to whether the mix if any was right when the soil based pitch was laid in January 2017 I assume that the wrong sand was removed? Its not the trusts role to issue a club statement but its been the only information forth coming without which we would be completely in the dark. There has still not been been an official statement from the club in regards to the pitch, its been 11 days so pardon me for thinking they don't care? KBA springs to mind. I can only hope that the club have been more forthcoming with Crown Oils than with paying customers.

The clubs lack of comment on this matter is a disgrace. They have let the groundsman suffer rumor and conjecture over his lack of care, his professionalism and those who work with him has been called into question and his reputation has been sullied. Its nothing short of disgraceful that the club have remained silent and left the ground staff subject to rumour upon rumour unable to defend themselves. You only have to read back through this thread to understand the insults that the groundsman has suffered including calls for him to be sacked, again its nothing short of disgraceful and to add insult to injury the club post this.

"We will keep supporters up to date where and when possible."

You couldn't make it up.

This is a decent article from a while back explaining the benefits of a fibresand pitch over a soil pitch.

Looking at the weather today, it won’t be easy doing the planned work on the pitch.

Apologies, yes, I meant the Dale Trust report, which is in effect a statement of the club's position

You would seriously hope that with the fine forecast yesterday and the bad forecast for today that the work was started yesterday - especially with the Wigan game being called off so early.

To be honest it was probably the most sensible decision made by the club, can you imagine the state of the pitch this morning if the game had been played last night ? I'm sure that would have had an impact with starting the works this morning. At least hopefully works can start on time, we can get two decent players in before the deadline, take something from the game on Saturday, then beat Millwall next week and set up a probable home tie with Spurs, make a few quid and get some publicity for the right reasons.
Not a lot to ask do you think ?
LOL !

I suppose it would depend on availability of machines/manpower, when it was booked and how long it takes.

Friday looks like being a cracking day. But it's also pretty close to Tuesday from a "recovery" point of view. Heard weather on news this morning and a wet weekend is forecast with cold air either side of it which may cause some snow in/out of the weekend (subject to change of course). The weather God's don't appear to be on our side - we need a bit of help from Zephryus (I looked it up for Shun).

Quite an interesting article....
Sounds like its the way forward with the way our climate is in the nort west..
It wont be cheap but its expected to last 4/5 years with the appropriate care....
