I watched the last episode of line of duty and thought that was good. Undercover has finally grabbed by attention. I quite like some of the investigative programmes Stacey Dooley does. However I can't wait for the next series of people just do nothing.

I also finished Series 5 of The Wire last night and I'm now at a loss what to watch on the odd evenings where I have a two hour window.

Really, really enjoyed all the charecters in The Wire and the continuity across the series was spot on. I partcularly liked the evolution of Bubbles charecter and you really found yourself rooting for him to get and stay clean. Agree though, Omar was the mutts nuts and I called it that he'd end up the way he did in such simple fashion -- dunno the actors name but he was equally as good, if not better, as Chalkie Whyte in Broadwalk Empire.

So tonight it's Palace v Arse and a few Guinness but then what? I've got the Oasis doc from BBC2 which is two hours and then it's Peaky Blinders for me I suppose

Only one show to follow The Wire...The Sopranos.

HBO really shook up TV back then.

Seeing D’Angelo Barksdale as the cop with the Afro takes a bit of getting used to but he’s really good in this as well.

I watched "Manhunt: Unabomber" (Netflix) over Christmas and enjoyed it very much. Only eight episodes, we knocked it off easily in three days.

If you're fiending for The Wire watch (or rewatch) the first few seasons of Homicide Life on the Street. Surpasses it in many ways IMO.

My sentimental favourite show will always be Oz though...

I have been watching My Golden Life, which is currently getting colossal viewing figures in Korea (up to 40% per episode).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Golden_Life

It's on Youtube but I download it from a file sharing site so I can watch it on the train or the bus. Fansub groups usually provide English subtitles within a few hours of an episode appearing.

It's very Korean, about two families, one a rich family who own a chaebol (conglomerate), one a working class family, whose fate becomes intertwined when it's discovered that one of the daughters from the working class family is from the rich family (lost children and separated twins are big themes in Korean drama).

I am not sure if I would recommend it as it's very sentimental stuff. There's not really a realist tradition in Korean TV drama like there is in British TV, although My Golden Life does tackle social issues 'on the side' e.g. the eldest son of the working class family can't get married because of debt.

just finished The Sinner on Netflix. Good detective story which concentrates on one case with no potential spin offs..unless they develop the Bill Pullman detective character

Started E1 of Unabomber last night hopefully will rattle off 2 more episodes tonight so thanks for all your recommendations

Just watched the first two episodes of 'McMafia' on BBC.

Written by former BBC political correspondent Misha Glenny, it's a decent, intelligent storyline building nicely.

Kind of 'Sopranos' meets 'Homeland' perhaps, with a bit of Godfather II thrown in (in particular similarities with Michael Corleone's initial reluctance to get involved in the family 'business').

It's an 8-parter in total.

9/10 for me :)

Yes and no. first couple of seasons are great, but then halfway through it sort of runs out of ideas and starts being a bit silly.

it's absolutely, entirely, completely a vehicle for James Spader, and lives and dies on his performance. when he's on screen it's great. When he's not on screen and they're focusing on the apparent lead character, it's a bit so-so. i've watched it in 'real time' for the last 5 seasons so i'm a bit invested in it, but i'd say that starting from cold there are better things out there...

Can we not knock it?

Spiral off to a strong start, a severed head in a bathtub by the end of episode 1. All of our old favourites back, including rubber-faced Procureur Marchand, Roban pursuing Arsene Wenger towards dementia, and a new pompous chief who has to be based on Macron.

I'm loving "The Tunnel" but then I have seen the previous series. The two lead characters are tremendous, the interplay between them is superb.

A lot happening in it so it's a bit confusing for a dimwit like me but I'm sure I'll work it all out with the aid or diagrams and single syllable words...

I watched the first episode of Mc Mafia which included the murder of uncle Boris and the key character looking for investors. I am keen to see the second. On a different note I watched Shamed on more 4. That wasn’t exactly pleasant viewing but it became quite compulsive after while.

Gave McMafia half a go, but the first episode didn't grab me, maybe I should try it again.

I know I'm late to the party but currently binging on Inside No 9, quite brilliant. Watched S1 and first few S2, not seen the new ones yet.

I've just finished Westworld, what a great series.

The last episode was a mindfook that I didn't see coming.

Spiral on BBC4 is as good as ever.

I recorded the first two episodes and watched them in one sitting.

I'd say the first episode is 'bitty', establishing characters, links, storyline... probably a bit confusing too.

The second episode gets things moving along and you get to see how individuals, different factions and operations in various countries interlink and develop.

I like the way characters are portrayed - high-end power-brokers, sleazy operators on the ground at a local level and the money being moved around by the bankers.

It's not all rip-roaring action, but with the author's experience and background, I find McMafia credible, engrossing, and something of a story of our time.

I see what you now mean Jeff, a good idea in theory for a programme but its very cheesy and the woman lead is very annoying , spader is excellent in it though

Me too.
I am really enjoying the settings and characters etc. Fantastic.
However, what really annoys me is I struggle to hear what is being said. This is particularly noticeable in the bar scenes where the background noise seems too loud. I could do with subtitles to be honest.

Do I sound old?

Inside No 9 one of my all time favourite series, but then I love League of Gentleman and Psychoville so basically anything Shearsmith and Pemberton do will get me.
