Williams 23:57 - Feb 13 with 3690 views | GeoffThom | Just watched jack cork tell him long was behind him unmarked Fernandez had his man Williamson marked nobody ,by his standards he's had a piss poor year when Fernandez was dropped I thought we'd dropped the wrong player and once again you've got to look at him ,he's admitted himself his forms been gash and he's not wrong you can't afford a long run of bad form in this div ,if a good offer comes in thus summer provided were still up I'd seriously look at taking it

Williams on 00:10 - Feb 14 with 3602 views | JackFish | Thought FF had a good game overall but wtf was he doing with the free header Long had in the first half? Just sort of stops and doesn't make any attempt to win the ball or block it. Same with Williams for the goal, not marking Long at all. Our defence has generally been pretty good, at least compared to most of the teams around us, but it's another pretty dreadful goal to concede. Fab was very lucky with the disallowed one too, don't think there was anything wrong with it.

Williams on 08:35 - Feb 14 with 3261 views | AngelRangelQS | Aside from a few games this season Ash has shown he is well past his sell by date. Should have cashed in during the summer. Hopefully we can this summer [Post edited 14 Feb 2016 8:45]

Williams on 08:55 - Feb 14 with 3168 views | EasternJack | Ash was shocking yesterday - and has been poor for some time. FF wasn't much better but Ash looked far from premier league standard. There's more to defending than last gasp blocks.

Last gasp blocks normally come from bad positional play, Carragher made a career out of it. Mainly why he didn't get many England caps.

His positioning is generally pretty good, but he loses track of his men far too easily. Like yesterday he was putting himself in what were technically decent places to make blocks only the Southampton strikers were too smart for that and drifted off into gaps. If someone else is picking them up, no problem, but that's sorta your job Ash mate.

Yeah i agree with that, when he is on form he's like a magnet to the ball. Always struggled badly on set pieces however.

That is not how I saw it. Taylor kept pace with his man and ran him almost to the goal line to deny him a crossing opportunity. The Soton man then passed it back to an unmarked colleague, who crossed for the goal. Why was he unmarked? Because Ayew didn't close him down, strolling instead of running. His defensive workrate is not up to scratch.

What we need badly is a Huth /Morgan / Shawcross type of centre half to play alongside Williams , Would have secured us our premier league survival by now.

Fernandez had a shocker too. From his lack of strength to shepherd the ball out for a goal kick and ended up conceding a corner, to stooping to head a ball from inside his area for a Southampton throw in a dangerous position (instead of welting it up the pitch to safety). But not even jumping to allow Long a free header straight at goal sealed his fate as our CD in my opinion. If we keep on playing him we're truly f*cked. Amat is no world beater but at least he would do the simple things right. Rangel was yelling at FF to push up thought the first half as he kept playing the Southampton front two onside.
