Seeing through the Bull*hit ?? 07:03 - Aug 19 with 4908 views | TalkingSutty | I think we are now all pretty immune to our poor attendances and last nights 'gate' could have been predicted but the attendance at giggle Lane was what caught my eye. Recently promoted so a obvious feel good factor, fantastic new training facilities, loads of media attention and a 'Chair' who sees himself as the bury Abromovich. Less than 3000 fans for a local Derby (Probably 2600 home fans) after a decent start to the season is piss poor. It's obvious the public of bury are not buying into Flickers and the chairs big plans. After all the hype it's shocked me to realise bury's hardcore support is actually on a par with ours now. With the money being thrown at the 'Chairs' project he must have been expecting a better reaction from the bury public but it's not happened. A glut of players on high salaries and a massive training complex to fund, the 'chair' must have very deep pockets because income from the paying public will only scratch the surface. The overheads must be massive, there's a lot to be said for living within your means. [Post edited 19 Aug 2015 7:15]

Agree they are a bit billy big balls arnt they. 7 forwards they perhaps should have signed 6 and 1 defensive midfield cover!! Hallam Hope on a three year deal being frozen out in less than 12 months!! Smoke and mirrors it's been for some time and nobody over there actually knows what the club masterplan is. Looking more and more like a roll of the dice for championship football. That would result in a windfall to cover the ever increasing debt. Who knows if they will achieve it and if it is sustainable. They do have some pop concert and Aparthotel money coming in though!!! Oh and the JD cash.

I don't know whether its my mind playing tricks on me, but I don't recall such a disparity between Saturday and Tuesday attendances in years gone by. Ignoring the obvious away attendance which would understandably be different, but in my long, lost days of youth, they always seemed to be about the same. Based on last season, there was on average a 30% drop in home attendances for midweek games which is a massive drop.
Seeing through the Bull*hit ?? on 08:26 - Aug 19 with 3695 views | KenBoon | I think us playing Blackpool at the weekend would have affected our crowd. Some non-season ticket holders may have spent up. I'd hoped the Mcr Red Brand game would have less of an affect now they're hidden away on BT Sport rather than on Granada. Maybe throughout the season we'll see the ECL have less of an affect on midweek games, but we didn't last night. One thing that strikes me about our crowds is we're not an old lot. There's lots of kids and younger folk in the crowd. Possibly because we allow concessions up to 21? Whatever it is, it is a good sign and something to build on.

Two casual Dale fans I know, who would have gone last night, didn't so that they could watch the Man U game on BT Sports. I imagine we have more fans like that who would have done the same.

Midweek matches mean three games in a week, a lot of people just cant afford it and missing the Tuesday game is probably the best option for those who have to budget.

Saw 3 young lads heading towards The Star on Edenfield Rd in Utd Shirts on the way to Spotland - not saying they would have been heading to Dale had the match not been on telly but still sad to see.

Crawley's home support is quite low, but they were playing Portsmouth last night. Wimbledon provided almost half Crawley's gate on Saturday so I imagine most of the crowd last night were from Pompey.

Yes, but Col's point stands, since the economic circumstances have barely changed (relatively speaking) since the old days - or at least his "old days" But the same applied in my youth - midweek games were pretty much as well supported (bearing in mind the opposition etc) as Saturday games, possibly even more so. Both our 10000+ gates in the 68/69 promotion season occurred in midweek, although one was Easter Monday It does seem the drop in gates is a pretty recent phenomenon - probably the advent of the internet and Sky etc [Post edited 19 Aug 2015 10:19]

Maybe its less kids to a midweek fixture? There were loads against Peterborough, I brought my 7 year old boy, I didn't bring him to the 2 Tuesday night games.

2points from 3 games for the superstars of giggle lane. Clarke on a long term deal on serious wedge. Milky bar kid fan club still in full swing though. Plenty of paid up members.... Makes me chuckle the fella has no wealth at all.. Plenty of front but no serious amount of hard cash. Either the front man for the money ( highly doubtful ) Or he has spun the wheel at championship roulette. But they love it over there!!!! Was flicker so full of cliche when he was here? I don't recall him being quite so full of it.

Surely though more important to watch the home game, if there has to be a choice, if able of course to do so. Paying money into Dale coffers far more important than an away club's coffers as well as the extra home support. I suppose though many would have turned the Blackpool trip into a night out, weekend or even longer away trip, but that surely won't be the case with Chesterfield, and most other away trips.

I can see the attraction of a game and night out in Blackpool for casual fans rather than Walsall at home on a Tuesday night. Saddest thing for me is seeing lads in newly purchased chavrolet shirts going down to the pub to 'support' their team.
Seeing through the Bull*hit ?? on 19:16 - Aug 19 with 2622 views | ColDale | It'd be worth having all midweek games as free entry for under sixteens. Would be little impact in terms of income. I'd add a proviso that it would not apply if a game was made all ticket. I'd argue that reduced admission all round would lead to adults picking midweek games as opposed to Saturday games, but I don't think that would happen with kids to the same extent.

Free for under 16s when with a paying adult, maybe up to 4 per adult allowed. Those under 16s would probably all spend money on refreshments.

Wouldn't even bother with the paying adult. Most fans go with friends rather than family. If we can develop groups of lads going week in week out, then we'll retain more of them than targeting those who can only go with a Parent. I'd personally have it that way for every game but its about addressing the 30% reduction in midweek attendances
