All the same ingredients as last year. Struggling Championship team, down on former glories.

Fancy our chances if we get through.

Think it's a decent draw, wanted championship or lower prem club at home or a biggy away. we'll probably sell out and have a small chance of progressing as it stands. And I can make one of my infrequent visits from north east fife too! Up the Dale

Hoping Yeovil manage to beat Accrington. Coleman doesnt deserve the chance to manage against united.

Are they still allowed to switch the game to the prem side venue ?

im sure it did used to happen several seasons ago so that the minnows would get a bigger pay day

No.

Yeovil hosted Liverpool about 10 years ago, so there's no problem there.

If it's Accrington, it would be a mad scramble for tickets.

Got to beat Aldershot first of course!!

Massive game week tonight!!.

3200 Forest Fans and maybe 3400 Dale Just after Christmas ( ALL PAY ) could be worth in the region of £100 000 to the club.

Throw in the mix a belting game and the chance of progression if you dont draw one of the big boys away then this is a really good home draw.

Spotland will be rocking I really hope we do the business in the replay!!

Didn't Altrincham many years ago switch there FA cup tie verses Everton to Old Trafford?

or was it a replay which had to be played at a neutral venue ?

I think the Farnborough Arsenal game in 2003 was the one that led to a change in the rules. The Farnborough manager, Graham Westley, also owned the club and shortly after getting the money from the Arsenal game jumped ship to Stevenage:

http://twohundredpercent.net/?p=21479

Since then I believe the only reason for switching a tie would be on police advice or safety reasons. A league-standard ground should by definition be capable of hosting any tie up to its capacity and I think this even applies further down the pyramid as a condition of entry to the Cup. Even then if you do switch you are not allowed to get more revenue than you would have got if you had staged it at your own ground, so I presume the extra would go into an FA pool or something. I stand to be corrected on all of this as I am not sure.

theres always a chancer aka Mr Westley

Personally id like to see the third round seeded..where the 20 prem sides are kept apart ..so that the first 10 balls drawn out are prem sides at home the second ten are prem sides away then the next 20 balls are the remainder of the sides left in placed verses the prem teams..it would guarantee a decent pay day for many lower league sides

Any draw at home is a good draw,Forest have a good following,so you`d imagine it`ll be a sell out, just what the club needs. Can`t believe that there`s four matchings from previous Cup Finals;Arsenal-Hull.Sunderland-Leeds,Wimbledon-Liverpool and Burnley-Spurs. Go the Dale.

AFC Wimbledon vs Liverpool have never played each other in the Fa Cup Final. New club new history.

From Altrincham's o/s:

Everton FC - Altrincham faced the First Division Giants on January 4th 1975 after beating Accrington Stanley in the 4th Qualifying Round, Scunthorpe (after a replay) in the First Round and Gateshead in the 2nd Round. In the Everton game, 34,519 spectators watched John Hughes score for Altrincham after a spectacular defence splitting pass from Graham Heathcote. 3 days later, the replay was held at a muddy Old Trafford where 35, 530 spectators watched Altrincham lose gallantly 2-0, Bob Latchford broke the dead-lock when a Graham Heathcote back pass, stuck in the mud and Latchford did the rest .

AFC Wimbledon class themselves as a continuation of the old club.

Interesting idea, and not without merit.

One drawback might be the increased likelihood of prem sides progressing through to later rounds since they'd be guaranteed non-prem opposition in the 3rd round.

Another would be the impression that the purity of the competition was being diluted, with money as the driver of the process - although I appreciate that's an old-fashioned view which barely stands up to the reality of a money-driven game at league level.

it is a bit of a nuance and depends on which Wimbledon supporter you speak to, but I think it would be more accurate to say that they see themselves as the successor to the previous Wimbledon FC. Hence the successes of the previous club belong to a club that represented Wimbledon and they are rightful inheritors of that tradition (fan memory etc). While they would agree that this tie is a replay of the 1988 FA Cup final in that it is Wimbledon v Liverpool, I don't think many would actually go as far as saying AFC Wimbledon won the cup in 1988.

Merton Council hold the replica FA Cup won by Wimbledon in 1988 and own all beneficial interests deriving from the cup win.
