Health Workers on Strike. on 23:56 - Oct 14 with 817 views | jackonicko | Anyway, the PCS is one of the unions who were on strike today. Anyone want to take a guess what pay rise the employees of the union are getting this year, under their pay agreement? You guessed it. 1%. Does anyone know if the employees of PCS are unionised? They should strike. | ![](/images/avatars/9447.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Yes they are, PCS employees are GMB members. PCS itself has taken a hammering in the last 4 years with austerity cuts. back in 2010 it had 330,000 members now it has approx 230,000 members. From experience the employees of PCS are brilliant ever so helpful to me when needed during my time, however then tend to get treated pretty crap | ![](/images/avatars/8919.gif) |

Health Workers on Strike. on 23:24 - Oct 14 by londonlisa2001 | what a load of absolute nonsense. A wise man once said that the true difference between the attitude of the average American and the attitude of he average British person to aspiration can be summed up by the attitude to inheritance tax. In the UK the popular opinion is that inheritance tax should be as high as possible because the 'people' hate the rich, whereas in the US no one wants any inheritance tax because they all believe that one day they or their descendants will be rich themselves. This is not to say that being 'rich' should in itself carry any meaning, but it does indicate the relative aspiration of each population at large. |
I disagree respectfully :) | ![](/images/avatars/8972.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

So are GMB balloting PCS employees on strike action? After all, 1% is a terrible deal to get from the nasty, fat cat, PCS board. Especially as the leader gets a six figure salary and lives in a 650k home in Surrey with the rest of Cameron's mates. | ![](/images/avatars/9447.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

1% seems to be the general amount in most places, the nurses went on strike because it wasnt implemented. GMB members may be happy with the 1% and a recommendation may come from GMB to accept, of course we/they would all want more but perhaps its a realistic amount in these times. I'm not involved any more, I don't know what wages he earns although I suspect 100kish, although he apparently pays a % back to PCS. Again I'm sure that if members werent happy with his pay a motion would be tabled. | ![](/images/avatars/8919.gif) |

well I do as well actually :) I do think there's a grain of truth in it though, although it's overly simplistic. It definitely does shape tax policy in the US though - the fact that a lot of people truly believe in the 'American Dream' - that they and their family will one day be wealthy so are far more 'anti taxes' on the wealthy than tends to be the case here. As I said before, the problem we have is that cutting top tax rates always results in a bigger tax take - but it looks bad - no party wants to be seen as being overly generous to the wealthy. It's the same issue with the 'mansion tax' which is effectively an extra tax for people who live in London since the property values here are so high (although can never be realised until the day comes where you can move out if ever since selling up means buying an equally over priced property instead). | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
