QPR? Don't Make Me Laugh Sunday, 1st Jun 2014 21:13 Ashley Williams is having a medical at QPR. Well, at least that is what today's Sun would like you to believe after they reported that the Swans captain was closing in on a move to the newly promoted side just a week after their Wembley triumph. I will go as far as to say now that this will never happen. I have no source, I have no inside information but think about it logically and ask yourself why Ash would go to a side that is almost certainly going to struggle towards the bottom end of the league table and a side which is well known for just throwing money at a sinking ship on as many occasions as they see fit. Two bad games at QPR and he would be benched quicker than you could say 'This was a bad mistake Ash' - Rob Green suffered that fate in the Premier League after we put five past him on the opening day and he almost had to wait until the inevitable relegation until he gained his place back in the side. There will always be interest in Ash again this summer but there is no way that he will chase the buck that QPR will offer nor will they offer a sum much greater than Ash can get from the Swans where it is rumoured that he would like to sign an extension to his deal. Ash has one year left on his Swans contract and we understand that he would like to extend that deal with a view to finishing his career at a club that took him from Stockport when they were back in League One. At a club that has seen him become one of the most regular features on any team sheet in the country and also to captain of both club and country. And I firmly believe that the club will look to strike a deal with Ash so long as his wage demands sit within the strict budgets that we work with at the Liberty Stadium. Reports in Metro last week stated that Arsenal were also interested in a move for Williams at a £3m transfer fee and if that is the approximate value for someone of Ash's age with a year left on his contract then you have to think that the Swans should be doing everything they can to keep hold of their man as it would cost significantly more to replace the most experienced part of their defence. But until they manage to do that then we can expect to see some more paper reports linking Ash with various moves but ones like QPR surely cannot have any truth in them other than people just joining the dots and getting the wrong picture as a result of it. Where do I think Ash will be when the season starts? I am going to stick my neck out and say Swansea City with a new three year contract under his captain's armband.
