If this is true then as a supporter of 30 years plus I will feel cheated.
Mr Dunphy clearly stated that he was looking for an experienced ( albeit youngish) manager so how can he justify this.
As a club on the up then we should have been looking for someone with credentials not someone who was in the frame for the Stockport job!!
We need to sign a goalie, central defender possibly a midfielder to replace Jonah and definitely 1/2 strikers, the majority of whom will come from Lgs 1 and 2 .What will this guy no about these leagues.

Geraldo. The Chairman said he wanted someone 'young and vibrant' who had more experience than Keith Hill, when the latter was appointed a manager of Rochdale.

Steve Eyre fits that bill perfectly, and the Chairman is to be congratulated on the appointment. When our club can lure an established and well respected member of staff from a key position at a Premiership club, then you know we are doing something right.

Far from feeling 'cheated' as you put it, I think this is a forward looking, exciting appointment, and I wish him well.

From what I hear, he is part of an excellent team from City's youth management and could be be good for bringing through youngsters and using contacts to bring in players who could do a job at our level. Let's see.

I think that someone like this may well thrive at a club like ours... just as Hilly did. We have a good foundation for someone like Eyre to build upon. He obviously knows how to develop youngsters and i think that can only be a good thing for a club like us. I think "feeling cheated" and things like that are ridiculous comments. Rochdale have now been moved into the 21st century, thanks to Hilly and co, why cant the fans who give these silly comments come along for the ride instead of moaning on the same day semi-official news is released.

I think you are all missing the point. we are no longer a club that should feel grateful about having somebody as manager, we are in a position where people should want to manage us. Someone like Ian Dowie or maybe Mark Robins but not someone with no pedigree.

It is now official as it is on the club website - I hope I am wrong but I think this could prove a disaster

Personally I think this is an inovative and very clever appointment, yes its a gamble, so is every new person in a job. Lets get behind Steve and see what happens.
Not too much to lose and plenty to gain, is the way i'm looking at it.

Look at it this way. If Steve Eyre brings in a few academy players from City, and just one of them shines on the pitch, and is sold on for around half a million, he will have done his job. We remain a selling club with low attendances. Hopefully while that player is shining in our team, we will be continuing to win games and stay near the top of League 1. Fingers crossed, he may develop several stars. Hopefully he will not be like the aforementioned Dowie and Robins, who have failures on their CV's. I was hoping we got Pemberton, but still happy with this appointment, especially as it seems there is no compensation payout involved .

Fully behind Steve, Done a good job already and will know the best young players from the reserve leagues to add to our squad, and thats what Rochdale is all about, watching young talented players add strength to the team.

Have faith and give this guy a chance.

i woudnt get bogged down with the thought of City players coming to Dale,im sure he will be aware of possibilities elsewhere as well .. a brave decision by all concerned

Really excited for the next few weeks, and for the coming season. Dowie has failed at several clubs since his success at palace, and he is out of a job for a reason, Eyre does have a little experience, 21 years of experience. For God's sake geraldo. If you've been watching the Dale as long a you claim you should be aware of some of the crap we've had to endure. And, you should know after the last 5 years to bloody five people a chance. What did you say when hilly was appointed eh? Bet you represent the contingent asking or eyre's was if we don't win a few games. I rarely get wound up on this board but to feel the need to spout negativity as an original poster on this thread smacks of attention seeking and is unecessary. Wait 12 months before questioning the judgment of our chairman, after what he's done for the club, you should be more respectful and patient.

You should be aware that if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be where we are now, and the quality of Steve eyre wouldn't be applying for our job. It would be Alan Buckley, Paul Simpson and Steve parkin.

We've invested in a coach of over 20 years experience of working with some of the best players in the country, what more do you want? Ian dowie? Mark robins? Good god.

An innovative appointment in my mind, let's not forget that the priciple's of the club are to keep showing the way of how to try and run a football club as a true business. Live within your means. Look at Stockport after they beat us in the play off final.. Not even Man City or Chelsea could alter the course of last season. Que sera.... Keith Hill did a good job, but he obviously felt he couldn't take Rochdale any further! Once he had set that seed it would have been Down Hill.. Let's judge Steve Eyre on his talent, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Finally, all the gates need to be at 4,000 plus next season, . Let's get behind Steve and this excellent board.
