| News Comment | Despite Fan's Uproar Southampton's January Transfer Window Is Reasonable at 12:40:07
Very happy with this transfer window. Our problem is not in defence. It is upfront. With A fraction more creativity or a real goal scorer we would not have lost to Leicester nor Villa. There is an economic crisis in all industries right now so to spend millions on simply back up fullbacks would be a disgrace and risk bringing back the administration/bankruptcy days again. Valery & vokins needed experience as are both well off premier league quality at this stage. Sensible management by the Club. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Arsenal The FA Cup Preview at 08:34:47
Looking at the quality on the ball shown by watts and even in the brief cameo by jankewitz, I don’t see having those two on the bench as “desperateâ€. Our squad is fine as it is, and the academy is vital so we don’t go bankrupt again. No new signings this month would be a good result. We can’t afford to spend money with the current reduced income (no fans) likely to last at least another 12 months. |
| News Comment | Saints Still Have Options To Buy An Experienced Central Defender at 13:04:43
Anyone who watched our last couple of games (Even against relatively weak opposition) can see our weakness this season is in the number 10 position. Very little creation/inspiration through the middle. I am hoping Redmond will bring that back but that’s the main weakness for me this season Not CB. Against Spurs the weakness was Ralph’s tactics. |
| News Comment | Saints Stronger After Transfer Window But Again Did Not Address Key Area at 11:06:46
Jack Stephens would be great as a Defensive central midfielder. Brings the ball out of defence really well. Already had plenty experience as right back, and am sure he would enjoy that role. If we are ever short in that area I believe he could make that transition well. Otherwise you still say that our CB’s are prone to a mistake.. name one which is not ? I would point you towards Maguire, Gomes and VVD recently... I am happy with our CB And CDM options now. Likewise going forward. Would have liked to see another creative Attacking midfielder (like Barkley) but can’t have everything. |
| News Comment | Saints Two Players Short Of A Top 10 Team at 14:27:57
Against Burnley (and palace) it was not the Defensive midfield which was lacking. Actually Romeu alongside Vestergaard was MoTM in my view (although the numpty on sky gave it to Ings with 1 shot in 90 minutes..). Midfield creation is badly lacking this year. There is simply no inspiration, and what there is, is way too predictable. That Burnley performance going forward was truly dire. @Highfield 49.. all those comments re Butland could equally be applied to our own Frazer Forster. I’m happy with McArthy but maybe it’s the Goalie coaching & psychologists we need to change, not the Playing personnel ! |
| News Comment | Saints At Crystal Palace The Verdict at 21:49:55
You are actually insane now. How you can turn that truly abysmal performance by all our attacking players into a let’s blame Jack Stephens again report. Incredible Yawn yawn yawn |
| News Comment | Fraser Forster To Fight For Place at 09:28:51
Very happy to see Fraser back. Rather him as competition than Gunn any day. But your comment about McCarthy is no sense. He was outstanding last season and was the main reason (with Stephens) for our pick-up in form after Gunn was dropped. Find me a goalie who doesn’t make any errors. |
| News Comment | Fulham In Double Transfer Swoop On St Mary's at 19:57:22
The club treated Reed very badly over the past years. All sorts of rubbish have played in midfield (and at right back) whilst he was performing well on loan at Norwich and Fulham and pre-season he always looked good. The Academy will point to creating an 8m player but they wasted an opportunity. |
| News Comment | Billy Sharp Speaks Out On Cortese Influence On Team Selection at 15:49:59
I was at the Evian pre-season friendly that summer and recall Sharp was trying to fight everyone. He did not look happy even at that stage. No great loss. On your final point, Pardew was sacked due to his side’s truly abject performances in the 1st two games (both at home) 0-1 Plymouth and 1-1 Leyton orient. Plus the terrible pre-season performances which preceded those games. |
| News Comment | Great Transfer Business For Saints As Hojbjerg Departs at 22:38:41
Who berates the club for letting players go too cheaply ? The Club have always managed to make huge profits on players including the two you mentioned Richards who we signed from nothing and within a year got 8m for (Absolutely crazy amount for an uncapped defender in those days) And Lovren. In very recent seasons Signing (not selling) mistakes have been made but main fault for that must lie at the door of the chop and change of Coaching staff and Changes at highest board level. Back to normal again now I believe. |
| News Comment | Eintracht Frankfurt Defender On Saints Radar at 18:26:56
2 incoming CB’s simply replace the 3 who left / will leave. Yoshida, Hoedt, vestergaard. Plus Alfie Jones and Tom O’connor who both went to Gillingham on loan as CBs returned after very successful loans as defensive mid and left back respectively. So another 2 CBS effectively left the squad. |

| News Comment | Spurs Daylight Robbery Offer About To Be Accepted at 00:11:13
He was only ever average on his best day. Never a game changer. Never a match winner. Talked a good show after the match to make it look like he was the grafter. Where was he when Leicester were pumping 9 through our supposed defensive midfield earlier this season ? Where was he when we won away at Man City ? oh yes. On the bench. Happy to get a few quid and a promising (albeit very lightweight under pressure again) right-back in exchange for the guy. Good luck to him. Would rather have had Harrison Reed all season |
| News Comment | Lallana Linked With A St Mary's Return at 08:17:41
Why high wages ? He has no other income as from next week. Is 32 years old, not a current international, and attracting interest apparently only from bottom half table teams. Anyway if we pay no fee for him, then can afford a fair wage. We do need a bit of experience in the squad, he suits a high pressing game, and we do need a bit of creativity off the bench. |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Prioritises Academy Before Transfers But A Balance Needs To Be Struck at 14:49:33
Absolute tosh as usual. Stephens and bednarek are developing into an excellent partnership and I would take them over most other CB pairings in this league. You seem to forget how often the CB heroes of the past like Fonte and Lundekvaam were found wanting. VVD saved Fonte so many times and Svensson did same for Klaus. Tell me which “cultured†CB wants to come to play in one of the smallest capacity top flight stadiums in Europe with no hope of winning anything ? And if you do somehow find one better than what we have.. how many months do you expect him to stay before yet again we call upon Jack Stephens to plug that gap superbly.. again (Just count how many clean sheets jack stephens helped us to when Fonte & VVD were absent.. ). |
| News Comment | Who Will Play Right Back Against Burnley at 14:12:25
Anyone but Danso. He is not a full back. I suspect maybe he could play a defensive midfield role in future but so far looks a fish out of water in every position played. This is a vital match, so has to be JWP or KWP for me. |
