Well, couldn't get to the game because of work but here goes.. Followed it online and watched the highlights.
Fantastic stuff. Seemed to have everything. Exceptional fight from the Dale - when many teams would have rolled over, especially up against a quality outfit who looked nailed on to go up automatically.
BUT, can't help feeling the season is drifting away from us... I live down in Sussex and was quietly working out possible play off dates - up until a few games ago. Really thought that this was a season to take a run at the Championship - especially as on our day we can beat anyone. Perfect playoff team! Might get the usual comebacks "punching above our weight", "don't be greedy" etc but it's a mark of how far this team has come that I can feel a bit down about a top ten finish! Thought he was absolutely outstanding today. Whole team contributed but he was brilliant defensively and always threatened up front. Watched just him for 5 minutes in the second half - never stopped running. Aggressive, chasing seemingly lost balls - the engine of the team for me. Great support, decent pies and a fiver to get in. Skyfall. Overrated, overlong, boring. There, I said it.

Play-off semi 2009 @ Gillingham. Was working in London that Sunday. Hired a transit, so I could put my motorbike in the back, drive down from Middleton, work all day Sunday then race down to Gillingham and beat the traffic. Memories of Daggers giving us hope with equaliser, Simeon Jackson (inevitably) scoring the penalty that won it, Hilly being roundly abused by the Gills fans (and giving it back I might add), the mood of despair in that poxy open air stand in the last 10 minutes. Icing on the cake? Riding back to Midd in the Transit that night, the bike came loose, fell over and bent the front fork. Happy Days. [Post edited 12 Oct 2014 11:37]

Great post. Shocked at the crowd last night.
Can't help but look at how a football club can really weave itself into a town - in my new adopted home of Brighton.
Cast your mind back to pre Amex Stadium days when the Seagulls were playing at the Withdean Stadium. Dreadful crowds, zero publicity and presence in the town. In steps Tony Bloom (aka 'The Lizard' - but we'll forgive him that).
Admittedly, pumping almost £100m into the club is going to help, but under his ownership there is a real buzz about the place. The club is featured everywhere - flyers in pubs, clubs, coffee shops, promotions, family offers. It really feels like a club going somewhere. Brighton's population is 480,000 (including towns along the coast to Littlehampton), Rochdale (metrop borough) - 206,000.
Trust me, this place has plenty more to offer than football, plus it is not a very wealthy part of the world and full of students. The big London clubs are just a 45 minute train journey away.
We draw around 10 times less fans to home games, yet we have almost half the population. Big money will always help, but some imaginative marketing and promotion for a team in a playoff position has got to be a good place to start. |

Can't make the match Rich due to work, but... I live just outside Haywards Heath - am myself an exiled Dale fan - formerly of Shawclough (used to walk through TBA as a nipper to get to Spotland). You are not alone!! |
