Bit too young to see the players in that team but my mum loved Mick Leach and a lot of that was due the stick he took every week .

If all fit and firing, who's first choice at CB?
at 07:39 23 Jan 2025

I think Cook and JCS is a bit of a no brainier when fit and firing
Whether either will be here next season is another matter . Can’t see anyone taking a risk on JCS however . The injuries are back and in full force again aren’t they .

I like Morrison a lot and think he will be a great successor to one of the above although his injury record hasn’t been great either . Fox has been tremendous in the last month . Showing experience and leadership after some horror moments . Fair play to him, but he is a good back up to the others at best.
Edwards looks like he will be a class act but if all our players are fit he probably shouldn’t play . Just because he isn’t ours . However , Southampton might have something to say about that though.

If you’ve never seen them then you should do it as I can’t see them doing it too much longer much like all the other big rock bands .
Not seen them without Malcolm , who was key , but from the small amount I’ve seen since they are still smashing it out . I know it’s now only Angus and Brian from a classic line up (I think) but it doesn’t matter . The songs and the energy will stand up on their own .
Go do it …if you can afford the ridiculous ticket prices .

You mean the people who choose to strangely die on the hill of ‘he was definitely injured and I won’t listen to any other opinion’ ?

Listen no one will look silly no matter what happens , as it’s only opinions . I certainly ain’t here to argue the toss over stuff that’s not that important but …
Why does every point you make have to be a shot at some bunch of fans with one opinion or another that differ to yours ?
It’s part of what this board is for isn’t it ?

I do wonder if you and Elbow are related ? Hmmmm

Ok. Fair comments although I disagree in part .

For the record I was called a happy clapper 10 days ago for criticising the over the top nature of the fallout after the Leicester game.
Certainly not scapegoating anybody and posted a plenty about what a great win and gutsy performance it was last night . Mentioned who I thought played well who impressed me .
All positive .

I was buzzing last night and struggled to sleep for hours . So my aim wasn’t to ‘p*ss on anyone’s parade’ just saying what I saw in my view and that was 2 players looking out of their depth and off the pace . MC took one off so I can’t be totally wrong .
The fact that we shouldn’t be critical in case they might read this is ridiculous.

I played in a touring band for 25 years where live performances , albums , songs, tones, appearances and just about everything was torn apart by fans, media , social media , websites , fan pages , etc etc .

It’s brutal but if you don’t have a thick enough skin to read a few people saying you ain’t playing well enough or adapting as quick as we’d hoped then you are in the wrong business .
I didn’t see any abuse . And that’s unacceptable. But criticism is part of being a footballer .

I for one hope he proves me wrong . Nothing would make me happier I promise you .

But if fans think someone is struggling or not pulling their weight or letting others down or just playing badly then fans have e dry right to say so .

Great post .

I really am desperate for him to do well like all our players .
But in this division he looks awkward and like a fish out of water a lot of the time .
Seen so many of our players tear into him for different reasons (last night was Lloyd..and Dunne was caught snarling at him before the camera switched ) and that makes me route for him, but they can’t all be wrong . They will be fully aware that for the most part he’s a passenger .

I just think he wants to get the ball down and play nice triangles and wall passes all within the circumference of a wide brimmed hat .
But he can’t do it in the Championship in the languid style he wants to and unfortunately he just in the wrong league . If he can adapt over the summer then we might have a decent player but the football clock waits for nobody and I just don’t think , sadly , he’ll ever cope with the frantic nature of our league .

With respect as it’s only a difference of opinion but ‘scant evidence’ has just blown my mind wide open.

Are we to ignore almost every other moment he’s been on the pitch that we’ve seen with our own eyes?
And no one is slagging our players off either . It’s called criticism and as fans, we are entitled when players are not playing well . It’s part of being a footballer .

What’s the point of Clive doing a match report for example if he only talked about the positives? Blimey some weeks relatively recently it would have been a blank page .

Great post .
I think Marti likes to give players opportunities to play themselves into form and out of bad form .
I agree that I think MC saw this as a chance for the pair of them to keep the ball , gain some confidence etc. but just before Ashby was taken off I was thinking to myself this is now doing even more damage to him so it wasn’t a total shock he was removed .
He’s in a tough spot now Ashby . I think he believes he is a premier league player but it’s dawning on him he probably isn’t and that’s must be damaging to his confidence.

In the mid term he probably needs to do what Laird has done (albeit not by choice) and drop down a level just to go out and play the way he wants to .

For me it was an observation rather than a major issue.
The main issue and always will be winning matches.

But I think fans are entitled to chat about what they see be it good or bad. Just because we won does that mean we can’t talk about bits that didn’t go well?

Plenty of joyous positive chat all over the the message board so not sure why it’s being made into such a big deal by some . The first set of subs were brilliant , the second set of subs who came on were poor .

What’s the issue in that ?

Yes fully agree with OP.
Going under the radar a little bit but not doing much if anything wrong.
He’s been impressive last few weeks . We missed him against Leicester in my opinion

These two were great weren’t they ? Lloyd is learning so quickly about holding it up and winning free kicks . You can literally see the improvement every week . He didn’t score but I thought he won us the game in the last 25 mins.
Saito’s goal was an absolute thing of beauty. Brilliant goal .

Tell me where I ‘dug’ your opinion out.
You didn’t read my post at all .

It’s the “ a few on here seem to think they know better” nonsense .
No one thinks they know better than anyone else .

Fighting weird battles that don’t exist again Ned.

Yeah perhaps . Maybe slightly harsh but patience has run out .

There was one passage of play where the Hull midfielder was advancing slowly through the middle of the park and Madsen refused to engage . He was the nearest player to the guy but remained 20 yards away …backed off …backed off until he was in the back 4!!!!

He doesn’t want to know for me and it’s frustrating.
You might be right and that ‘situation’ annoyed me so much it clouded my overall judgement of his performance but how low does his bar have to be to suggest he ‘did well’ this evening ?

He was a body . That’s it . Well done to him

It’s a difference of opinion Ned.
Are we not allowed to disagree with you .

You think it’s a knock . I think he was hooked .
I don’t know anymore than you and you don’t know anymore than me .

It’s just our opinions differ.
Why the dig at people who dare to have a different opinion than you?

Hooked . Was an utter liability and gave the ball away every single time he had it.
The party line will be a knock or a strain and of course that might be the case . But before the sub there was no sign ( that I saw anyway ) of a knock or limping around or trying to run something off).

He was going to lose us the victory and I think MC had to do something . And by and large we soebt injury time looking more comfortable again.

Shame but maybe he needs to take a back seat for a week or 2 and then try again. He’s gone at the moment .
