| News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 10:56:02
Its clear Martin doesn't want the job, he's just talked himself out of it with that team selection, and blames the players. The squad is poor, yes, but its his squad and they were lucky to lose 3-1. Problem is who is out there with Premiership experience to take this squad on. Arsenal will put 5 past this lot at the weekend and then we have a break and a new manager I suspect. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Ipswich Town The Verdict at 09:34:29
This was a much better performance and the shape of the team looked much better. Saints had chances to put the game to bed but yet again failed to do so. Ipswich are a side that fight but had little end product but we know form last season how many late goals they scored, so we should have done better to see the game out. Talk of exiting the Manager is bonkers at this stage. Lets see where we are after the Wolves game - there are a few games coming up we just have to win and kickstart the season - if not fair enough the knives will be out . |
| News Comment | Southampton V Ipswich Town The Preview at 08:52:32
We lost to Ipswich at home last season. They have proven to be effective with a drawn at a strong Brighton last week. Well do well to draw on current form. I would drop Dias, others are better. |
| News Comment | Another Big Crowd At St Mary's For Leicester Game Tonight at 22:54:33
Don’t think we are among the favourites now Nick. Doubt many will bother for the Ipswich game after that awful performance. What can change in a few days? The Managers high line and playing out the back tactics are destroying results. We are ready for the taking by pretty much every side in this league. |
| News Comment | Russell Martin Sets Out Ross Stewart Recovery Schedule at 22:49:40
More performances like that and it’s battling to stay in this division. Why buy a striker who is injured? It’s clear Che and Sulemana don’t want to play for us. That was probably the worst game I have witnessed in many years. The manager has to take the blame. It’s his tactics that we were following. Why oh why play such a high line. Benali was totally flummoxed on the commentary team and you can see why. Ipswich will be the same result because the Manager did not accept there is a problem with how he wants this team to play. |
| News Comment | Southampton at West Ham United The Verdict at 11:39:30
Nick, I was at the game. My observations were lots of huff and puff, no end product. A drawn was no good, and there are fine margins. West Ham were poor, nervous, but they carried a threat up front. We can’t defend set pieces, and no matter who is defending it’s the same result. This was a game we should and could have won. Too often we looked like we were on the training pitch, no urgency. I am afraid it’s goodnight Vienna. It’s no good thinking this or that might happen. It will soon be out of our hands and the club seriously have to think how they can best invest in players that can get us to bounce back in from Championship. We have no experience of that either and that too will be very tough - different level of player required, far more physicality required. |
| News Comment | Can Saints Get Out Of The Bottom Three On Saturday By Winning At Leeds at 11:05:58
It’s certainly what the team should be aiming for. Play with no fear and go for it. Would be great for our new attackers to get on the scoresheet. Leeds are not playing well and their last 3 home games have been 2 draws vs Brentford and Wetspam, plus a defeat to Manure. Our last 3 away games have yielded 2 wins. As long as Leeds don’t get a new manager, before this match I think we will win. However, we may still be in the bottom 3. Man City are capable of slipping up against Bournemouth who have not lost in their last 3 home games. Wetspam are under pressure but I fancy Forest to beat them. We need to pick up some home form, so winning at home vs Leicester the following week is also massive and that would get us out of the bottom 3 and could give us a bit of a cushion before we face Manure away. |
| News Comment | Ralph Hasenhuttl Drops Down To 2nd Place In Sack Race Odds at 20:34:41
As many are on here, as a life long fan we have seen it all. I don’t dislike our manager, and would not want the pressure he finds himself under. It seems odd that he is reported as loosing some of the dressing room, with a lot of new faces, that seems hard to believe. The performances have not been anywhere near good enough, and I think the owners would have replaced him, except they can’t attract anyone. So like the current PM and her team, we are treading water. Win against Wet Spam and he gets some breathing space. As a fan I want to see attractive progressive football. We are not deluded by glory. We like being in the Prem and want to stay there. Watching Brentford and Brighton tonight shows you what is possible on smaller budgets. So I hope Ralf can turn it around or we start again with another bright young thing. |
| News Comment | Saints 2021/21 Fixtures Are out Now at 11:12:43
We certainly won’t be top after 8 games his year, and I agree it looks like we’ll be battling in the lower half for most of the season. We did not have a great finish, so no real momentum flowing into next season.Hopefully the fixtures will focus the club to strengthening the team rather than selling our key assets. |
| News Comment | Saints At Manchester City The Preview at 13:20:03
Citeh are not going to be that bothered by us regardless of what team we put out. Everton were woeful and gave our attack room and time, something Citeh will not. That said I think footballers need to play and why change a winning team. Use the bench to rest or shut up shop if we are leaking too many. Our shape was much better vs Everton so I would keep the same team, and please leave Redmond on the bench - better when running at tired legs. Bournemouth away is not going to be easy, they are well organized and playing as a team. Certainly we should be getting something out of the game but we have lost there on previous trips. This could be a game for us to introduce Sims or McQueen, but I would not do it for the Citeh game. |
| News Comment | Arsenal To Table £15 Million Bid For Saints Midfielder at 14:00:16
I agree we would be foolish to sell. Haven't we all been bemoaning the fact all our best players have gone causing our current predicament. We know he's not playing that well, but he is someone who has had potential and we'd be much weaker if he went - so why would we want that? The January window is unlikely to unearth any gems, and is usually desperation a la Harry's mercenaries who did nothing to prevent the drop. We need him more now that we did at the beginning of the season - so we should hold out and deal with it at the end of the season. He's not a Wenger type player, and he takes a season to buy anyone, by which time Spuds or Klopp will be in for him. |
| News Comment | Sunderland After Caulker at 13:51:06
He's not great and prone to mistakes. Physically looks the part but made too many errors in the few opportunities he's had. Do you think we can tie up Yoshida in the deal too? and Scunderland would be certain for the drop along with Villa. |
| News Comment | Saints Have Great Chance To Progress To Last 8 Of The Capital One Cup at 12:10:34
Yes we have a great chance and should put the Villans to the sword with ease, but all depends on the draw. Its not like Wimbledon where you can see who is next up! We were in a good position last year and we threw that chance away so you can't think anything until the big guns drop out. |
| News Comment | Will Gaston Ramirez Play A Part This Season ? at 12:05:44
I think that he is worth having on the bench. The game on paper against Swansea looks like a banker draw with both sides having drawn half their games so far and it will be a tight game so needs someone who can come on for the last 20 mins with a fast forward like JRod and break the deadlock. |
| News Comment | Saints V Manchester United The Verdict at 13:13:40
Agree with everyone here that surely that's curtains for Yoshi - otherwise RK is loosing the plot. Agree Cedric should play and build up a relationship - otherwise look for someone else in the youth squad. The goalkeeper is also suspect - what is he doing - his positioning is poor and most teams are scoring easily against him - don't rate him - where is Gazza? Plus stats were against us and we rarely beat Manure at home (even when they are not exactly that great these days) so wrote it off. Have to beat Swansea otherwise I fear for this season. The only positive is Manure probably weren't impressed by anyone in our squad to get the chequebook out in January. |
| News Comment | The Daily Star Claim Van Dijk Has Completed Medical And Is Done Deal at 09:27:16
Good news indeed especially as the other team rumoured to be in the frame have signed Ramiro Funes Mori (River Plate to Everton) £9.5m so I am sure this will happen. I am sure he will become a strong addition and improve our defensive options. Wonder who else is coming in too? |
