The Trust newsletter states, with reference to closing The Sandy for the Stockton game and the pitch, "The Trust hopes during the week beginning 6th Jan to put out a more detailed statement on all matters subject to clarification on the above by the Club." After the game has been postponed and moved out of town. Stable door, horse, bolted. |

"Work will commence this week to ‘Dryject’ the Crown Oil Arena pitch, as confirmed in the Co-Chair’s Christmas message. This is a process which aims to remove water from the playing surface. We are extremely hopeful that this work will ensure the pitch is in a playable condition by the time we are next in action at home, when we welcome York City in Vanarama National League action on Wednesday 15th January (7.45pm kick-off)." Will this work be able to commence on Monday, given the forecast freezing temperatures and the fact that snow is falling on the pitch as this comment is typed? |

Come Monday morning, we'll see if "Any tickets purchased for the original tie will be refunded from Monday 6th January. Supporters who purchased online or with card in-person do not need to contact the club." works. |

I posted last night that car windscreens and pavements near Spotland were covered in frost. Not tonight. For now. |

The RAFC official website is still showing the match being played Tuesday 7th January, as is the Wolves official website. |

Bought a ticket for Stockton on Thursday. The system worked well. Reluctant to buy earlier, hoping for a reversal of the decision to close Sandy Lane. Asked some of my fellow Daleys tonight if they had bought tickets. They are all waiting on the referees decision in the morning. Hopefully I won't have to test the ticketing system's ability to provide a refund. |

Car windscreens and footpaths covered in frost in the area near the COA tonight. Are our frost covers on? Be good for travelling fans of Dale and Stockton to know what is going on with a damaged pitch to try and get the game on. |

We've seen numerous "remedies" to the pitch problem going back decades. Some have lasted for a while, some have been disastrous. The most recent one, promised by an incompetent at a fans forum, suggested a be all and end all solution supported by a ten year guarantee at great cost, not that RAFC had the money! A few years later, the pitch is wrecked by rain, those responsible have fled or deny involvement (both parties) and any relevant paperwork seems not to exist. Unprofessional and inadequate all round. While the idea of fans helping out financially can make a useful contribution, I would be wary of handing out anything without knowing the solution would live up to its promise and be backed up by a genuine guarantee. We've learned from recent events and the empty words of one narcissistic individual that things must change. If the club can come up with a solution, which is open to scrutiny at a fans meeting and in detail by Dale Trust for the commercial bits, then no doubt we can move on together. It could be a project that bonds the fans and directors and builds trust that has been eroded, by no fault of the Ogden Trust. This will no doubt be a topic that raises questions at the next Fans Forum. I hope our directors of 2025 have more than the overly verbose hot air of one person five years ago. |

Virtually impossible for the pitch to cope with that level of rainfall, even at its best. The rain is still hammering down now. Forget today, fingers crossed for Saturday. HNY all. |

It's been raining heavily, non-stop, for hours in OL11. The forecasters have got it right, so far. |

Notice you are enthused to comment twice so far on a thread regarding Oldham, a club you are very defensive of, but not on a thread involving today's excellent Rochdale game. Speaks volumes, but we all know why.... have done for weeks. Next.... |

Scared of playing York and being embarrassed on TV so they switched the fog machine on. Tinpot. Spend £1million of taxpayers money, can't get a game on. Tinpot. Hooligans invading the pitch frequently at away games. Tinpot. Game would've gone ahead at Spotland. Just kick that tinpot club out of the league. They expect expulsion for anyone else who has a game called off, whatever the reason. [Post edited 26 Dec 2024 17:40]

Excellent, attack minded performance. Amazed we didn't score more in the first half. Dale look so good playing that way instead of the tippy tappy tripe at the back. More of the same please. |

If I remember rightly, probably at the last fans forum (if wrong I'll stand being corrected), wasn't there mention from the top table about serious concerns about the pitch and consideration about legal action against those who guaranteed its ability to hold up to local conditions? This was a surprise to the people I was sat with - we were of the understanding the legacy pitch issues had been dealt with, albeit the "guarantee" to repair faults was spoken by a charlatan some years ago. Was the "guarantee" a sham or did we not comply with the terms? The RAFC board were clearly aware of the problem at that event. Why hasn't it been dealt with by them? Losing yesterdays game when no others were called off after what has been an innocuous week of rainfall by Rochdale standards is incompetent. We lost the BIFFO game after 5 days of sub-zero temperatures followed by Storm Bert which upped the local River Roch readings by over one metre in less than 24 hours. That postponement was understandable. The same river readings on Friday and yesterday indicate barely no change. No Rochdale resident could have considered we'd had days of monsoon since the Tamworth game. We know a bad week when we get one - last week was not it. It's like going back to the Graham Barrow era of postponements almost 30 years ago, when a shower called a match off. Progress, eh? The board in 2024 / 2025 need to get a grip. Who the fook wants to spend time travelling here or booking hospitality when the game isn't on because of a bit of rain? How to lose fans and sponsors without kicking a ball. *Posted on here because I don't feel direct communication with the club works any more.* |
