Hopefully we will sign some players this week and next week, there are a lot of players looking for clubs, hopefully McNulty is concentrating on getting in some good players. Are we still using the company to identify targets? |

In the summer, the Dale activated a 1 year extension, which was in Gordon's contract, when he signed in January 2024, so he is under contract to the summer 2025. |

I would agree 1 GK, 2 CH, 1 LB (with Armstrong as cover), 1 midfield player and 1 striker, I would also love to have Hates back on loan. Rumour on Stockport forum, is that we may be taking a 20 year CH Ethan Mann) on loan and a rumour on the Biffo's forum is that Jez may be joining them. |

But do they play possession football or do they prefer to attack with purpose? I think it was Neville, who summed it in the second half, when we had continued with the walking tippy tappy possession football of passing backwards and sideways, when he asked 'why as he had not basically changed tactics or the system'. It is the question we asked of McNulty last season most games, has he no plan B, throwing the strikers was a desperation tactic, which thankfully worked. What was worse, in the second half of extra time, we set deep and sought to defend the lead, was this down his instructions at the half-time period of extra time. I feel sorry for the players, it must be soul destroying playing these negative tactics. |

I wish Keohane all the best in Ireland, I did expect him to sign, but perhaps it was a longer contract with Galway, then the Dale was offering and I am now wondering if John as rejected his contract offer as well. |

I would not be surprised if pre-season starts on the 1st July, with the first pre-season game being on the 13th July. I beginning to suspect that Keohane and John will not sign, hopefully I am wrong, but hopefully the club will have other people lined up, as a precaution. |

I don't like any club going to the wall, because it is the fans that suffer, yes one or two may have called us to have a points deduction. I can why, we did not go into admiration or any like that. But the vast majority of Southend fans are like the vast majority of Dale fans, who care about the club and would find it devastating if it went to the wall. It may be a bumpy ride, like the one we experience last season, but hopefully the fans will have a club to support. |

I still think we need another striker to share the goal scoring burden and to cover for injuries. |

If John and keohane sign new contracts, then that covers the left back and potentially the midfield, especially when we gave the youth players Bailey, Dunlop & Main contracts, then we have young Corey Edwards who played most of the final game at Southend. I accept that he prefer a more experience player due to the increase number on the bench this season. We do need to sign a goalkeeper, two CD's and another striker, I would love Hayes to come back on loan (but I feel that is unlikely). At present we have on the right wing, we have Adebayo and McBride on the left, and Allarakhia (who as effectively replaced Clayton) in midfield. So there is an argument for another wide player, remember Keohane played a lot on the right wing last season, but could be used in a more central role (if he signs). So if we signed another winger, I would prefer like all Dale fans, it to be somebody in the mould of Hayes on the right and because we have cover on the left in Ughegbulam. |

We do not know the terms of the deal, but I would like to think that the new board have the business skills to have additional payments, including any a percentage of any future sale built into sale. One thing about his transfer to Peterborough, is that he is more likely to get first team football at Peterborough, rather than would be the case, if he had to somebody like Palace, which can only good for his progression Good news about Rodney signing a new contract, hopefully John and Keohane will sign new contracts as well. I have never heard of NHH or whatever its called, but then I treat people as I find them. Somebody was telling me, that Galloway did an interview in which he suggested that many people indicated that they were looking to vote reform on the doorstep. I will vote reform, because I have no faith or trust in the main political parties or Galloway, which I find sad. |

I am also interested in what is going on with Rodney, Keohane and John, are they going to sign or not. Hopefully McNulty as been planning for Nevett leaving, after all it was expected, I was thinking of somebody like Maher, released by Grimsby and he has experienced of the National League through his time at Halifax. |

I can understand Rodney taking better offers in terms of pay, because a footballers career can be a short career. However as others have said, the Dale stood by him this year throughout his health issues, so you would expect some degree of loyalty from Rodney. Whatever he decides, I wish him all the best, he as been a good servant to the club. |

I thought Mitchell sending off was harsh, but the Hartlepool player did enough to con the referee. It put us on the back foot, but at the start of the second half, Rochdale seem to come out with a negative approach, as if they got told to keep it tight. Which was a pity, because Hartlepool looked nothing special and looked there for the taking. At least McNulty got the subs right, I would have given Hendo more time, to use his experience and I also thought Mather had a good game, and was slightly surprised with his substitution. But to a point in the dying seconds was a positive and Rodney deserves credit for not giving up. [Post edited 1 Apr 18:45]

![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | Forum Reply | Gateshead Game Predictions at 08:41 30 Mar 2024
I did not expect much from Gateshead to be honest and this is not down to the team, it is basically down to McNulty. I have said it before, the team is good enough for the playoffs, but throwing points away against teams like Oxford City and other poor teams, due his preference for 'total options' football or what we call possession football. I heard a rumour that Hendo had a go at him recently over his tactics and he as been on the bench since. We all accept that McNulty is a nice man and he is new as a manager, but is he the man who can take us forward, if he cannot change or is prepared to change. Hopefully when Sir Peter Ogden and Lady Ogden agree to take over, they can persuade McNulty to take advice from somebody like Keith Hill, who could act like a mentor to him. Because no matter what the fans think of McNulty and his possession football. tactics, I still expect McNulty to be the manager next season, but he needs to learn from what he as done right and more importantly, what he as done wrong, but is capable of doing this? I personally expect us to get beat, because Gateshead are a good team and the Dale will try to pass the ball across the back four and the keeper, and b*gger it up, at some point. Having said that, you would not put it pass the Dale getting a positive result, if we approach with the right attitude. It is a pity that we don't get regular updates on injuries, when will Mellor and Sinclair be back, how serious is Hayes injury. A further question, if Hayes is injured today, do you play it tight with Clayton strengthening the midfield or do you play Mather on the wing? |

This is my input; Contracted for next season: George Nevett (Expires 2026) - expected to be sold Harvey Gilmour Jesurun Uchegbulam Kairo Mitchell Kyle Ferguson Ryan East Out of contract from July: Cameron John - a new contract (depending on money) Adam Clayton - a new contract, he has the experience, but his age is a factor Brad Kelly (not sure if he has an option of another year) - a new 1 year contract Devante Rodney - new contract Ethan Ebanks-Landell - new contract Ian Henderson - his age is a factor, but I would give a new contract Jimmy Keohane - a new contract (he can operate in a number of positions) Kyron Gordon - I expect him to be offered a contract Max Taylor - freed Tyrese Sinclair - a new contract, but he could get better offers elsewhere Michael Afuye (option for another year) - free transfer Loans to return to parent clubs: Cian Hayes (Fleetwood) - I would like him to sign, but I would expect him to get better offers. Jacob Chapman (Huddersfield) - if he is a free transfer, offer him a contract Tiernan Brooks (Notts County) - D'Mani Mellor (Wycombe) - I would not be surprised, if he signs for the Dale in the summer. Finlay Armstrong (Fleetwood) - If he is a free transfer, I would sign him. Sam Mather (Manchester United) - season long loan (if possible) Sam Murray (Manchester United) - Dan Sassi - If he is free, would McNulty sign him? If the finances are good enough and based on the predictions above, we will need to sign a GK, possibly 2 CD's, a winger and a striker. |
