We've been linked with Brandon Williams multiple times in the past but his salary even as a reserve teenager at Utd was crazy and he wouldn't accept a lower wage for game time. I guess he just worked that contract down going out on loan but I don't recall seeing too much excitement about him beyond the fact Utd deemed him worth a shot of a big contract when he was very young that hasn't worked out. |

Also, as a free agent, in theory he could have done quite well wage wise as back up for a big team. The fact he hasn't suggests to me no one else was interested in him. Sigh. |

Looks like we won't be getting a new keeper then. I'm surprised we have made this decision but maybe it points to some pragmatism that we can't try and play for 70% possession in the Premier League. |

Foden, Bellingham, Rice and Saka would get into any other team in the tournament. Kane maybe too. But maybe they're surrounded at club level but such great players they're able to shine much brighter... Tuesday will tell I guess. I've never been able to get to a euro or World Cup but am hoping to be able to make some games when the WC is here in 2 years' time. Enjoy the rest of your time out there sir. |

I completely agree that southgate's record is incredible and, when he took over, returning to the glory days of Sven taking us to a quarter final looked like a wistful dream. A semi and a final have been beyond all expectations. However, with the talent England have and his bizarre idea of experimenting a (I think overrated) right back in center mid IN THE ACTUAL TOURNAMENT, part of me wonders if the success we've had was in spite of Southgate rather than because of him. A bit harsh maybe but he seems to have taken absolute world class players and made them look awful so far... |

I thought TAA was awful. Mainoo or Wharton to sit next to rice and maybe bring in Gordon or Palmer for Foden and have him come in later for saka who seemed to tire quickly. I'd also suggest putting Gomez in for trippier on the left if Shaw isn't fit enough. However, expect the same exact team vs Denmark and the "Media Liverpool fan club" to drawl all over TAA. Read this morning about how it's not his natural position etc and needs time to adjust. Why do we need to show horn in a (frankly average) player when there are better natural fits out there? |

I think the central midfield experiment has failed woefull. Let's hope they cut their losses soon |

Gunn, Armstrong and Adams looking at another 9-0... |

Kevin Keegannewcastle approach of outscoring and you win! To be fair, we don't have a gifted set of defenders so I think the squad looks like we'll play to our strengths and be attack minded more than southgate sides have historically done so. |

I got to play on the yeovil ground once when we played their U18 in the cup about 25 years ago it was quite new at the time (but had to use mobile changing rooms). Only time I've ever played in a stadium and was fun other than the fact we lost heavily having been 0-0 at half time. |

For some reason your keyboard seems to auto correct Bellingham to Bamford. I think this happened before! 20 mn for the younger brother seems very high |

I agree that loaning him out when fit is a good option and as he matures he has a good chance of being a first choice. Also agree that RM is hardly going to say he's awful but the best he's got. My criticism is how he is bad at stopping shots, socially those from distance. The late strike (I think from Dan James again) that was in the bottom right hand corner that AM palmed behind for a corner is the carbon copy of what Bazunu has let in time and again. He has to get better at this type of situation (worryingly it points to his eyesight as he is always getting caught out from distance). I think we need a new number one keeper for Bazunu to work behind when he's fit. |

He is a super positive person and that is his leadership style. Anything other than a glowing description would be a signal you're out of favor. I think (but proabbaly it's more of a hope) he was keeping a positive spin on who he saw as his best of a bad choice in goal. It's clear that AM helped us into the premier league and was proabably playing for his next (and final big one) contract. With Wilcox moving on, I hope our obsession with man city u21 goalies burns out too - I know it predated him but it's been a woeful strategy so far. Dean Henderson or Aaron Ramsdale would off the experience and solidity at the back that would allow the football RM wants to play even if they aren't the most gifted with their feet. If we could get either at the prices above we should bite their hands off. Given we threw close to 20 mn at Onachu and Sulemana, surely this would be a clear and sensible path to take. Also Bazunu would develop well behind the likes of one of these and may well prove himself a first choice in the future |
| Forum Reply | I wonder what J W P honestly thought at 17.00 yesterday. at 16:14 27 May 2024
We had to raise funds after being relegated and he was one of our salable assets. Sullemana, ABK, Onachu etc etc could only muster loan interest (or no interest for Sulemana) and we needed to lower weekly pay roll and raise funds having spent a lot last year in. I doubt JWP really wanted to leave but it was the right thing for the club at the time. We might get him back on loan with option to buy if the new West Ham manager doesn't see him fitting in... "I would" imagine that will irk at least one regular on here! |

Is ramsdale available? RM was talking up Baz and saying he wants AM to stay too... I heard AM was on 70 or 90k a week depending on who's reporting. Surenly ramsdale can the in much more and would much rather him... |

Bazunu looks like he's a center midfielder that isn't good enough to play first team football so they gave him a shot in goa. He's quite good, makes some saves and is great passing the ball, however, he's just not a natural 'keeper. McCarthy made a save to his lower left bottom corner toward the end of the game that would be a guaranteed goal vs Bazunu because he's not anticipating that shot and how to save it. We're two for two in bad goalie choices from man city's academy. Get a good 'keeper, keep Downes and get a good striker to work with Armstrong and Stewart and we should be able to compete very well... |
