No. I don't think we will. I think Marti will continue with what worked well enough last season, i.e. 4-2-3-1. I don't think a lot of Spanish teams really do 3 at the back and wing backs and I think he has just got those players in so that the back 4 is comfortable with the ball and the right back is better going forward. I think he will stick with 4-2-3-1 at all times. |

The only saving grace is the rise of the Lib Dems. Maybe in 5 years when Labour has screwed up, interest rates and inflation have gone up and everyone is striking they will be the difference between Labour or the Tories winning a majority. Can't see Reform making any progress, they only won 4 seats on the back of nationalist jingoism. They are powder puff. |

Agree with that but did you see the interview with Andy Murray afterwards ? Wow, that was powerful. I thought tennis was staid and boring but that was tear jerking. |

We are not going to fix it now. Just have to hope that our huff and puff somehow gets us over the line against the Swiss. The players who came on did well. He needs to have more faith in his squad and remove players earlier if they are struggling, e.g. Trippier, Foden. I hope he is not going to take any credit for yesterday. That we won was completely in spite of Southgate and not because of him. |

Love a good book thread and read the first two books in CJ Sansom's Shardlake series thanks to recommendations on here (both very enjoyable).
I've recently been going through a non-fiction phase, partly as a result of an unsettled time I have been going through and the desire to understand more about human behaviour.
The last novel I read prior to that was Dracula (again on the advice of a friend) which was actually good and has some relevance to the world we live in now; the whole sad story being an allegory to the world of lust and carnal desires.
If you are not a great fan of long books Tom Hanks has written a book of short stories called Uncommon Type, some of which are quite good. There is one in there about a teenager coming of age (but not in the usual sense) on a surfing trip with his father. It is wonderful little story (titled 'Welcome to Mars) , only about 10 or 15 pages long but like I say, there is a life story in there. Well worth trying to find. |

This is a huge departure from what we are ever used to. I don't think we have ever had a keeper who has been totally happy being an eleventh outfielder and contributing to help us overload at the back. Seny reluctantly maybe but Begovic, Smithies, Lumley, Kenny, forget it.

I'm not the biggest fan of Sadiq and detest the way he gets on a soap-box about things which are outside of his remit as the Mayor. However, I do think it's good for such a multi-cultural city as London to have an ethnic minority Mayor.
With regards to the general election we love shooting ourselves in the foot in this country, don't we ? Brexit was one big mistake and now that Rishi appears to have done a pretty good job of keeping interest rates low we are about to kick him out.
Feel sorry for those with loans/mortgages when inflation and interest rates go through the roof under Labour. |

Its good that this is getting sorted out this summer. That was totally ridiculous last year when we went to Austria and then subsequently played Sparta Prague with the likes of Gubbins, Pedder and Kargbo. Really looking forward to seeing who we bring in now. |

Surprised no-one has mentioned the formation. 3 centre backs was a mistake. The root of the problem was further out. And it meant that they were completely unable to take the game to Germany because they were always one or two short any time they did clear their lines. I didn't really see the 3 centre backs in any control at the back. It all looked a bit Reading trying to stay in the Championship in 21/22. |

Let's not cast a mantle of gloom over the situation already. Don't forget that even if Dykes, Frey and Armstrong were not prolific last season we were maintaining play-off form with them for half the season. That is what counts. Sure, the former two are not predators but they press centre backs and enable our three no. 10's to get into goal-scoring positions. It matters not where the goals come from. Armstrong, when he came on in games did well.
If it is to be those three we have seen that Marti can find a way. So let's not consign them to the rubbish heap before the season has started. [Post edited 14 Jun 10:49]

I know. It leads me to the conclusion that those in the queue are either desperate to get out of the airport terminal (to coup up in a tin can) or they've had a holiday from hell and are desperate to get back to the UK. Either way, it's not for me. Reverse speedy boarding and hand luggage under the seat in front if need be for me every time. |

The most pointless queues I've seen are at the boarding gates at airports (more often than not before even the stewards/stewardesses are behind their counters ready to check boarding cards). Can anyone explain to me why people stand in those queues ? The seats are allocated, you're not going to get to sit anywhere nearer to the front if you stand at the front of the queue and you're not going to get off at the other end any quicker either. You go on holiday to unwind, not stand in a frigging queue to squeeze into a tin can faster than anyone else and be sat in your seat for half an hour longer than necessary waiting for everyone else to board ...... |
