I am convinced Pickford has had more touches than Kane in this match yet they've barely threatened our goal. Go figure.

Seriously why were we not playing with that intent in the first 75 minutes?
It's ridiculous.

Seriously I have tried really hard to be patient and excepting that international football is a lot more tetchy and more at risk per game but I'm so bored of this now. All those talented players and we can barely have a shot let alone score a goal. Just gamble and try some quicker and more forward passes. If you lose the ball in their third then so what, they haven't looked amazing going forward either.
Really want to get behind the team but it is so dull and uninspiring.

Reform are a company backed by a right wing millionaire, they are not a political party. They have 5 seats yet will get 100x the political coverage than say the Greens (4 seats) because they are backed by a right wing media. Even the BBC give them a completely disproportionate amount of coverage. Their deputy leader has said regarding migrants in boats "left to drown". Nigel Farage dresses and mimics many of the mannerisms of Adolf Hitler. Lee Anderson? The less said the better. They've convinced a large proportion of the population that they are totally legitimate and aren't 'racist'. Let's see how Farage deals with the scrutiny of being an actual MP now. His finances will be very interesting reading.

Let's give this Labour government a chance, the Tories spent 14 years ripping up the basic infrastructure of this country. It's no coincidence that the number of billionaires has dramatically risen over the last decade.
Labour have already:

Called for an outright ceasefire in the Middle East and the call for a two party state (really wasn't that difficult to say was it).

Have stated they will open negotiations with junior doctors as early as next week (again, not difficult to sit down and talk with people is it, that's your job).

Scrapped the illegal and immoral Rwanda policy. (That has cost £240 million pounds and was going to cost over £1million plus per person 'deported').

I'd say that's progress within 48 hours.

Anyway let's just try and be positive about the future at least rather than slagging off each other and people who have barely had a chance to settle in to the office.

I noticed that 3 GB tennis players got asked if they were going to be voting today and they all basically said NO and not interested. I wonder how much of that attitude across the country will be going on today? I think we can get so wrapped up in following the latest on the elections and talking within a circle of people who are quite interested but I get the impression there is a huge proportion of our population who are completely apathetic to the whole thing. Which is a shame. I'd imagine we may actually get a broader political debate and be able to put pressure on the government to actually do what they say and not just make empty promises all the time.

This has been happening in the Premier League for years. How many 3pm home fixtures to the 'big 6' actually have in a season? 5? For those big clubs it tends to be fine as there is a big enough support base and tourists/day trippers who actually go to the games. But for most of the football league this is going to have a big detrimental effect on supporters.

I have the utmost respect for those of you who manage to still get to games week in week out. It sounds like these changes are going to be the final straw for some. I just don't see how there is such a demand out there to have it televised at all times. Most pubs are on their knees aren't they? And who can afford a Sky Sports subscription these days?! Surely it can't just be for the benefit of the international market?

I did that questionaire based on the policies and was largely Lib Dem and Green. There has been half a million results generated now and it is even more proportionate to Lib Dems and Greens. I think the problem is that there is such an entrenched ideal in the two main parties that anything else is often seen as a waste of time or a 'wasted vote'. When this website clearly shows otherwise.

Out of 50 people who did the questionaire in my current constituency of Harrow West it was about 10% Conservative yet they hold the seat (currently). Go figure. Labour are predicted to win it back but for this election it feels as though people are mainly just thinking 'get the Tories out' so are voting tactically across the board.

De Byrne keeping it by the corner flag for the last 2 minutes says it all.
They were booed off pretty loudly. KDB sulking and had to be told to go to the fans at the final whistle.

I've mentioned it before but everyone seems so focussed on our performances.

I've watched Germany be outplayed by Switzerland and almost beat them.
I've seen Italy be entirely uninspiring.
Belgium are struggling to get out of their group and are currently playing fairly poorly against Ukraine.
France couldn't beat Poland.
Netherlands have scraped through in 3rd place.

These are all so called 'contenders'.

Let's see how it goes in the knockouts when yes we will play teams with more quality but who will play a lot more open football that will suit our players.

I'm not ultimately too fussed but I just think we are stoked up by the media and pundits to have some right of passage to finals because we've got players who are considered stars. International football is not Man City v Burnley or Liverpool v Sheffield United. These teams don't turn up as a 'bonus game' thinking about that home tie 6 pointer with Nottingham Forest, they play with everything they've got.

Well with all the negativity and the flack thrown at the England team I do think we always need a dose of reality and perspective.

Italy barely scraped a draw with Croatia.
Germany scraped a draw with the Swiss.
France currently being held by Poland.
Netherlands being beaten by Austria.

Everyone just assumes we should steam roller teams but it seriously doesn't work like that. It's not like Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. International football is just a different kettle of fish.

Think we'll do okay this evening. The draw in the knockouts could be favourable again for us so let's see how it goes.

I see most of the media today have already started the witch hunt against the players and in particular they all seemed to choose an image of Saka who had only been on the pitch for the last 25 minutes... So that ugly theme will probably rear its head again if and when we bow out. I seriously hate our press.

Single file Queuing.. in pubs!
at 17:18 8 Jun 2024

When I walk up to the bar and find I am getting served immediately with others stood next to me apparently waiting I always ask them if they have been served or if it's obvious I say to the bar staff, 'I think they're next'. Just manners.

On a side note, going in the reverse protocol, I notice these days it is quite rare for people to queue at the bus request. I feel like that was definitely more of a thing when I was growing up (mostly in the 90s)?

I just don't understand why Summerville is wearing gloves in the backend of May. Weird.

I am fairly indifferent but I suppose I would want Leeds to lose rather than Southampton to win, if that makes sense.

The single biggest impact on humanity and the planet Earth is how we can realign ourselves with the natural world , preserve what little biodiversity we have left and prevent any further tip in climate change. It might not affect you directly but believe me millions if not billions are already suffering on a global scale. In reality every other political topic pales in comparison. So I have voted Green for the last 3 elections.

But until those in power ditch the first past the post system (which they never will) this country will remain trapped in a Conservative or Tory-Lite trade off and 'tactical voting'. The Greens actually get a huge number of votes but under our political system it counts for not very much.

The Final: Attack on Wembley - Netflix
at 15:29 22 May 2024

I agree in that the police plan was totally mismanaged. But I also feel credit is due to the police who actually were on the ground. They managed what they could with extremely limited numbers due to the poor planning. They couldn't go charging in making arrests because there just weren't enough of them to do it. It would have left even fewer officers on the ground.

But the high ranking officers who organised it are totally to blame and I hope at the very least lessons were learnt. It's the sort of shambolic planning that should have cost them their jobs but I bet some of them are still in the same rank and role now or have been promoted/quietly retired into the sunset.

I think the police hadn't foreseen the trouble around the stadium so early and had a lot of officers starting their shift at 1-2pm with the belief that they would be working 12 hour plus shifts right through until the small hours anyway. They also had wrongly assumed most of the trouble element and crowds would be in central London.

It was almost unfair to criticise the police on the ground at the stadium because they were outnumbered 100/1000 to 1. If they had started making arrests they wouldn't have had any left to actually police the chaos. But it is totally fair to criticise the top brass who planned the event, got it totally and utterly wrong and hadn't read the mood of the nation.

Like people have said, the security at the ground aren't paid enough to deal with a mob threatening to smash your face in if you don't stand aside. A near miracle there were no fatalities. The rain that came pouring down after the penalties alleviated a lot more trouble too.

No final day wànkathon for Sky this season.

Fair play to you mate. I think this eventually happens with most clubs of our size/resources. A season or 2 of excitement in a new league and then it seems to be survival and making do.

I'd prefer Brentford to do well rather than the perennial boring yoyo clubs like West Brom. You have at least had some big results and caused some established teams some problems in your last few seasons. Our club could and should learn a lot from yours but like you say how far does it go once you're in the top division these days? At what point does finishing between 12 and 17th become boring? Ask Palace fans, they seem to want wholesale change but again, look what happened to Charlton...

I think you've done reasonably well this year like you say with injuries and minus a genuine goal scorer.

What would be ideal now would be if Arsenal fail to win today and Man City beat Tottenham midweek. Then the season is completely sown up. All they will have to get excited about is the battle for the Europa and Conference league positions.

It looks like 29 points is enough to stay up this year. That is ridiculous. Brentford would be bang in trouble most other seasons but even with less than 40 points and one game to go they've pretty much been safe all year.

Also to add, majority of West Ham fans have got their wish and Moyes is out. Probably their most successful manager in a generation but not good enough. I'd love for them to go down next year much like Charlton did when they got rid of Curbishley but they won't. They'll have at least 2 out of the 3 promoted teams struggling below them next year as well.

It looks to me like he had a perfectly good chance to grab the ball after the slice but prior to it going in the net but kind of, didn't. Looks more and more suspect every time I watch it.
