Oldham grooming gangs: Government blocks national inquiry

I think it’s more that a national inquiry may not be the best way to address it.

Its such a particular issue there should be a faster and more focussed way.

Yep.

What we all seem to want is accountability, the recommendations from the 2022 inquiry actioned and a focussed investigation into the failings of this particular issue. And fast.

The question is whether a national inquiry will achieve this.

99 years use of the airbase there.

I’ve no idea if that’s good value or not.

Sadly it seems like many won’t care.

Stand by for ‘he might express it in an uncomfortable way but he’s making good points’,

See also Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson etc.

Doesn’t matter if it’s lies or at least mistruths, if it’s highlighting an issue some won’t care.

Hard to say.

He picked up the already broken news because of the national inquiry story. He didn’t get it out of the blue.

I do think the amount of misinformation he is peddling is distracting from any positive moves that could be made.

His motivation isn’t saving children; it’s clicks and wealth generation.

This type of information is so hard to find.

Maybe any investigation could remedy this.

I can’t see the figures in that.

Here’s what I saw (with the big caveat that I haven’t looked at the original source)

Again, I find what’s happened with the gangs to be possibly the worst thing I’ve ever read about.

Doesn’t mean we should ignore other ethnicities.

Totally agree.

I just don’t think he’s helping.

There certainly is a case.

Is the most effective way to achieving the goal for example, calling for Jess Phillips to be sent to prison?

Probably the politician currently in post who has done the most for abused women.

For me it’s just a case of making sure the light shines on other similarly abhorrent issues.

It’s quite right at this time it’s these gangs are front and centre.

Doesn’t mean that overall anyone else should get a free pass.

That’s grooming gang members, I was on about overall sexual offences.

Yep.

We’re handing over the power to unelected billionaires and thanking them for doing it.

I can’t see how any fair minded British person can have read what Musk has championed over the last few days and not be disturbed.

I saw that stat but I can’t find it atm. It also pointed out (I think) that white British who make up 80% of the population are responsible for 80% of sexual offences.

As you say this doesn’t take into account when prosecutions should have taken place.

This is what I was alluding too earlier in the thread.

Lots clamouring for a national inquiry without really knowing if that’s the best way to get answers.

It’s true that some of the outcomes from the 2022 inquiry were not actioned.

I find it depressing that the political parties are so busy blaming each other. Surely that would be an excellent chance for cross party working.
