Full lenght trailer Jack to a King
at 23:44 3 Sep 2014

Well that's another rewrite of history then.

I'm looking forward to seeing this film though. Hope it's good. I've heard it's a good watch if not exactly historically accurate.

£400K in the bank....
at 16:37 9 Aug 2013

So does this mean they've paid another £1m dividend?

If so, some people might owe Dai Conn an apology. Also shouldn't it be more than 200k given last year's shareholding adjustment?

Anyway back off out in Copenhagen. Looks like I need to find one of our newly flush directors.

Quite.

Ole Blowfish complaining about clauses being activated given his and Allen's departure is a tad precious. I'm no fan of the buck toothed nibbler but if Lerpwl agreed to one last season then sadly I'm forced to agree with the little racist. I'd feel the same if our club was involved too.

About bloody time. I've been calling for this more Germanic style of education for ages.

It's our last preseason game and an important European tie. He'll play our best XI.

He signed three of them, didn't he?

Oh I dunno. His set pieces have been very good at times. Plus he's more the link between the defensive and attacking CM's than anything ... actually I'd say he's been more comfortable doing the attacking support than the dirty work.

Where I think things will help are with signing Bony. Michu did brilliant last year but he's not a striker and sometimes took the space you'd expect to see the midfielders take up.

I've been quite critical of JdG since the cup win though. Needs to recapture that pre-March form.

Arsenal renew pressure to sign Ash

You'd hope so, unless his designated replacement can also be bought at the same time, which would be a big ask. Ideally we need to have a cutoff by the day of the United game.

Now that I can more or less agree with. Certainly got a lot of potential and if he's ever going to realise it it's here and now.

You're right of course in that none of our central midfielders will play every game. It'll be interesting though to see who becomes the regular link midfielder to join Leon and Michu as it's easily the most stacked position we've got in the squad by some distance.

Similarly it'll be interesting to see how Michu deals with the presence of Pozuelo this season. If he carries his pre-season promise into the proper stuff we've got one hell of a battle to enjoy there.

I think it was the fact he sat on Daz's lap when he asked for a photo.

He was picked at the start of the season often enough. He then wasn't. It's almost as if something happened during that time ...

If you don't think he needs a bit of work to his game then you're right we do disagree, although you seem to be contradicting yourself on that score as well. Luckily I'm sure even he doesn't think he's the finished article already, and that's much more important than a nerdboard disagreement.

Anyway, like I say, he's done well so far and hopefully he continues to do so. The move to a slightly deeper role seems to be suiting him as it makes use of his long passing game. He needs to be a bit quicker in terms of linking the play and getting his head up but that'll come. I can't see him playing the more advanced role he played at Liverpool down here, what with Michu here, Pozuelo looking the dogs danglies so far (he's another that is all promise but need to reign in judgement until the proper stuff starts, but he really does excite me) and also JdG is probably most suited to that role. I think that was Liverpool's biggest mistake and kudos to the Swans scouting for identifying this slight tweak.

Of course, the most important point is that we've got a lot of different competitions with a lot of different opposition types. Some games will suit our bald-headed future great, others will suit JdG and others will even more suit Korea's finest. I'm writing no-one off and inking no-one on the team sheet just yet.

Yes. Yes I noticed Shelvey wasn't very good last year. So did ole Blowfish, given that he rarely picked him in the second half of the season. Is anyone really arguing he was actually really good last year? If he was how the hell have we managed to pick him up for a relatively paltry fee? Iesu mawr.

Actually a few people have inked him in for a permanent spot already. Some seem to be comparing him to the best in the division already. All this is ludicrously presumptuous. We have barely kicked a competitive ball in anger so I'm merely sounding a note of caution that he needs a fair bit of work to his game and we should wait until we've played a few proper games before making more outlandish comments. I'd have thought that was reasonable enough but hey ho.

Edit - Just scrolled up and seen you predicted he could become one of our all-time greats. But you're not saying we should base our midfield around him? Not sure that quite adds up.

So, to summarise:

Flynn kept us up despite only doing the job 2 days a week. It may or may not have been more comfortable.
Flynn signed some really good and some really rubbish players. The good ones were down to Reeves. The rubbish ones were probably Flynn's.
Flynn was unlucky to be sacked, despite us being in freefall at the time and he was spending more time at Burnley's ground than ours.

That about cover it?

Club shop online

At least the club shop website is live. You know that Swans Commercial thingy they've been twittering about ... http://swanscommercial.co.uk/ ... am sure it'll be online at some point!

The club do so many things right it's really annoying that so many daft mistakes are made.

So you have to watch every single minute of a player's career to form an opinion, otherwise it's as valid as an opinion based on zero top flight games? There's logic.

Saw enough of him last year to see he struggled in that Liverpool team, to the point he barely played in the second half of the season. You'll have to forgive me not quite jumping on the bandwagon to base our already half-decent midfield around him based on a couple of training exercises.

Edit - True, he's got talent, but then so do the players we already have. He's made a great start so far but let's try and keep expectations a little realistic.

Given that his top flight performances to date have been, to be kind, somewhat hit and miss, I think that first line is a tad disingenuous.

All Purpose Cardiff City Thread

Palace will do well to make 20 points at the moment. Holloway does have experience on his side though and many would have said the same thing about Blackpool 3 years ago.

The two autos looked much of a muchness last season. Problem is that only really Sunderland or Stoke of the surviving clubs looked all that weak at the end of the season, and both have changed manager. Don't think their timing is the best ... division looks as strong as it has in a long while. That and, to be fair, I don't think the style of play of the two sides coming up will worry too many of the existing clubs.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I think Ki did show the occasional ability to play that link/driving midfield role last season - am thinking particularly of the Stoke and Liverpool cup away games where he really did have a total grip of the game. Not even close to enough over the rest of the year of course but his health and Olympic duty issues are well enough documented. If we're writing players off on the basis of iffy spells last season then I guess Shelvey's also due the same treatment.

Lot made of Shelvey's performance on Thursday but there were some areas needing a bit of work IMO, and can think of a few performances from JdG last year which were much better.

Early days though. Just glad we've got the options.
