It was telling that the Hogan no nonsense getting rid into a safe area of the pitch received a huge cheer!

Bring it on...

Could have been a lot worse than AFC Fylde away.

I am hoping we can give both cup competitions a good go this year after last seasons limp exit from both.

TODAY V BRAINTREE TOWN
at 15:06 30 Sep 2024

The worry for me is that whilst we have the players unless we address two things quickly it will be tough to crack this league (and i think this season is the one we could do it).

1. Home form. Whilst decent we have not set the division on fire.

2. Games against the top 10. We have played 4 games against sides currently sat in the top 10. We have not won any and mustered 2 points from a possible 12.

York away Lost
Forest Green at Home 0-0
Eastleigh away lost
Dagenham and Redbridge at home 1-1

TODAY V BRAINTREE TOWN
at 11:07 29 Sep 2024

Positives..

Dale might climb to second in the table with an away win on Saturday.

Always happy with a home win and a clean sheet with Mitchell continuing his hot streak. We have found a way to win 7 games from the opening 12 played and sit 4th. The players look "Together" a good set of lads who look committed to giving the club a really good season on the pitch. Over 2500 home fans can the club look at the next two home games and come up with some initiative to attend?.

Saturday 19th October Home v Southend

Tuesday 22nd October Home v Halifax

Negatives..

Another pedestrian display similar to Solihull. An identical keeper pass to a defensive midfielder who gets dispossessed on his own 18 yard line only this time we get away with it with a save the keeper should never have to make.

Dale look a threat when Gordon and Tar move the ball quickly down the right hand side they have a brilliant understanding and we just did not see enough of it yesterday.

Dale looked second best for the majority of the second half. Fair play to Braintree they will be both mystified and a bit gutted they did not get something from yesterdays game.

Big Jim obviously has a style of play that he will keep persevering with, I cant work out the difference between Woking when we looked superb and a real handful for 90 minutes versus Soilhull and Braintree when we look slow / pondorous and second best. If this is working progress to reach Woking heights then fair enough we have young lads who will obviously not get it 100% right every game. If we see more of yesterdays type performance at home we will get found out and attracting more than 2500 home fans will be a struggle.

Special mention to Hendo who gave a lifting cameo yesterday when he came on.

We have a squad very capable of a top 7 finish this season looking forward to Henry returning and hoping he has the key to the more exciting door.

Avoidable goals stat
at 13:08 28 Sep 2024

1pm Saturday 28th...

Two in one minute..

Hudderfield away to Reading and Hudds are 1-0 up... shocking defending (not clearing lines) gifts Reading a goal and its now 1-1.

Even worse Harrogate 2-0 at home v Bradford... Now thats when your looking to be hell bent NOT to p**s around at the back and gift Andy Cook a chance thats self inflicted - gift wrapped with a bow on it... Cook says thank you and from a comfortable 2-0 its now an uncomfortable 2-1 and Bradford given a really easy way back into the game.

TONIGHTS GAME V HARTLEPOOL UTD
at 14:17 26 Sep 2024

11 games in and 20 points on the board.

6 wins 2 draws so far.

This excellent win on Tuesday (and performance by all accounts) makes the start to the season above the expectation I had the week before we played Boston away in the first game. Credit to the players and the manager for getting 24/25 season off to a very good start.

Not going to go all in on Jim, The lad does love the Dale and if we can find a way to score 3 or more at home on a semi regular basis that would be great.

Hoping the injury situation is not to serious.. Looking forward to Saturday (Again) and this positivity transfers and we get Spotland rocking come 5pm.

All the comments James are pretty constructive and all come from a good place.

We like Jim, we are behind Jim, we want nothing more than the challenge for promotion playing positive attacking football and watch the crowds increase.

No one is saying anything different the bewilderment is there as Saturday v Solihull was a white flag wave when if we had been braver and more positive the result would likely have been reversed.

Onto Eastleigh today.. Up the Dale... it will be a real tonic to get 3 points against a team who also started 2024/25 season pretty well.

I have a feeling the players will perform today and Tuesday at Hartlepool. Then we get another chance at Spotland to see if we can put the Solihull game to bed once and for all in front of our home fans.

Come on the Dale

What a double save from the Atalanta penalty.

It is worth a look on you tube if you have not seen it.

On the AFC Phoenix website they still have founded 1885.

They are a strange bunch - deluded beyond help.

Its worth stating again that there was NO merger.

The FA for some reason allowed AFC to use the old name (That's it).

The fact they have 2 stars on the pheonix shirts is cringeworthy.

The illusion continues...

As a phoenix club they have done rather well and do have a real chance of getting to the FA cup first round proper for the very first time.

Its quite hard when the 20 or 30 post on here (Myself included) sound like grumpy old fools when the reality is we can see what hundreds of others can also see but don't post they just don't attend games in the future.

With a win last Saturday we WOULD have been top of the league.. its a massive chance passed over as we set up negative and defensively especially first half.

A similar game was the recent Woking game at home when the Ogdens were present and we set off in a far more positive manner and carried it on for 90 minutes and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. Last Saturday was like chalk and cheese! The only real main difference was Sassi came in for Ferguson who was possibly one of the players of the match v Woking... He has not been seen since as we have moved on to Sassi being the man asked to pull all the strings.

300 extra on the gate who must be wondering what the fuss is all about. Dale can bounce back of course and could easily beat both Eastleigh and Hartlepool in the next 2 games.

The stated plan (on record) is to get 5000 home fans.. Exciting winning football will at least put the foundation down. TS made a great point regarding getting out of the league by simply outscoring your opposition most weeks.

We have the best set of players in recent memory and its early days I know only 9 games played. I really hope last Saturday was a minor bump on a long 46 game road I guess we will know more at 5pm on Saturday 28th September.

Its still very early and this time next week we can evaluate after the 10 game benchmark people talk about.

If we manage to win away at Eastleigh and we will have 20 points from the opening 10 games (Excellent).

First half yesterday was pretty dire.. too negative and slow on the ball with tippy tappy between Sassi and Gordon then Sassi then Gordon...

This season Dale have had so much success down that right hand side and yesterday TAR in loads of space 30 yards further advanced and not getting any of the ball. If Sassi is going to be the new quarter back we need runners into channels and forward balls for them to run onto.. (something Moors did plenty of).

We gifted Solihull both goals less said about the first the better how that pass from the keeper to Gilmour is sensible play I will never know, surrounded by two Moors forwards Wilkinson just takes it off him easily and slots it home he will not be gifted an easier chance all season. Never seeing this tactic again would make me a happier supporter.

Burger missed that free header second half he has to hit the target with that chance.

i thought Henry did well and looked to up the tempo to create some urgency and positivity. I agree if fit I think he has to start games especially at Home.

Gutted as a chance to go top and we just did not perform to what we have seen in the previous 4 games. Playing away now for two games might be helpful - Hoping when we next play at Spotland we can put this one out of sight and mind.

Update from Cameron Ogden.
at 11:44 15 Sep 2024

It definitely makes some difference..

Families away on holiday in August OR having to entertain kids with a limited disposable income.

Chester Zoo family of four is Over £120. Alton Towers - Gulliver's world plus lots of additional days out that might impact.

Anyway 2600 yesterday so 300 + on Tuesday.

Pedestrian and Negative first half - missed a huge opportunity yesterday of being top of the National league today.

On a Saturday with Kids back at school and the weather pretty good and a chance of going top of the league?.

If we are closer to 2500 than 3000 It would be a little disappointing.
