As has been pointed out, it's now out of date. It also doesn't address your core arguments that more teams challenge for the title in this country and that lower placed teams beat higher placed teams more often. Be good if you could find someone that has done that research, one of us will definitely have to accept defeat then!

agreed mate, not sure anyone will have done that much intensive research. I think it makes for a good debate though, each league has it's pros and cons though.
This debate is very much like the debate on foreigners in the PL ruining or improving the English game. Again both have their pros and cons.
I haven't got time but i wonder what the stats are on whcih nation has been best represented in the latter stages of the CL and how diverse the teams are. | |

Sun, playing for the "big two", a lot of South Americans will go there for increased exposure in a culture similar to theirs. Imagine trying to say to an 18 year old Argentinian "you can go to Manchester where it mostly rains and you have to learn the language, or for the same wages you can play for Athletico Madrid in a culture very similar to yours". |  |

For me it's the Premier League. As someone has eluded to, look how many teams challenge or are expected to challenge for the title every year (note, not actually win it), we're talking the 2 Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool having a good bash this year as well. What other leagues can boast that? And it is quite correct that the number of "smaller" teams that beat the big 5 or 6 has got to be quite high compared to the other leagues, then you have the coverage and the money involved.

Cheap(er) tickets, safe-standing, great atmospheres, lots of homegrown players.

In terms of strength in depth at the moment it's hard to look past the Premier League. Mostly due to the much fairer distribution of televison money it's possible for even one of the smaller clubs (Iike us) to build a squad capable of at least competing with the giants, even if winning silverware isn't all that common.
The other leagues have some great teams and players in them, but outside the top three or four teams in each division there's not an awful lot to get excited about. When an average Man Utd side can stick five past the second place team in the Bundesliga on their own patch you have to wonder about the overall strength in depth. The ludicrously lop sided financial distribution in Spain is basically turning La Liga into the SPL with better weather, and Serie A is a shadow of its former self, again mainly due to money. The best players in the world used to flock to Italy. Now they generally pitch up in the Premier League.

I know it's not the best, and it's understandably bringing up the rear on this poll, but I've always had a 'thing' for Serie A ever since I used to watch it as a kid on Sgorio, then on Channel 4.
Used to have so many great players and so many wonderful clubs, stadiums and passionate fans. They still have the great clubs and passionate fans, but the football isn't as good and corruption has sapped it of legitimacy in most people's minds; It feels like a league not to take seriously, and that's a shame.
Beside's the Premier League it's still the league I like to watch the most; Never really taken to La Liga. |  |

Technically Barca, Real and Bayern are ahead of the EPL. Are the rest? I've already mentioned United shafting Leverkusen, and that's without going into Arsenal's recent wins at both Dortmund and Munich.

I'd say so, by technical I mean their ability on the ball and awareness. We're probably the notable exception but name the teams outside of the top 4 in this league who can generally pass the ball around well? Southampton perhaps? Almost all teams in La Liga have that about them, defensively is where the huge gulf lies. [Post edited 7 Jan 2014 21:11]
