Anyone got one of these for streaming games? on 21:44 - Jan 2 by BLAZE
So if I get one of these will it completely do away with the need for terrestrial / aerial television?
It will change the way you watch tv for sure. You can watch a series of stuff instead of being spoon fed bits by chanells. I used to pay sky £96 a month but have since f'd that off and have fibre optic bb with youview all in for £41. Much better. It's improving all the time too. Even with the ISP blocks there's no stopping it.

What's the coverage like for british tv shows? Grand Designs etc.... From using streaming sites the last few years the content is usually US orientated and you struggle to find streams for the British stuff

Before 1channel was shut down you could search for pretty much any program. It's still works on my ready baked pi but not as quick though. You'd have to see it to believe it. Honestly. I watched the hobbit 2 earlier on. Not great for sports but improving.

I know I'm jumping on this a bit late but was just wondering what to do
Am paying around £90 for full sky HD and BT Sport added in last month too
If I ditched it all for one of these would it just be the broadband and line rental I would need to pay for? eg if I went for Infinity would be £30 per month and that would be all I'd pay?
I really want to do this but after having Sky for so long am very reluctant to give it up despite feeling like I'm getting shafted every time the direct debit goes out

What is this exactly? Ive fallen off the tech wagon these last few years. Is it a media server that you stream content to from your PC?
Im in the process of buying my first house and have been wondering whether to bother with a tv licence. I was just gonna hardwire my tv to the PC and watch streamed content (BBC iPlayer doesnt require a tv licence to view) but this looks like it will do the same job without the wires?
It's just a RaspberryPi PC with HDMI out to your telly. No different to any other sort of PC really.
I'd get one of those Acer Revo's or their ilk if you were after a small PC that is small enough to hide near the telly.
Can see the benefits of this sort of thing if you just want a closed box and don't know anything about PCs but if you do then you'll find it pretty limiting.
At the moment I've got a Netflix, BeIN sports and Overplay account running through an old PC hidden away in the cupboard. Costs roughly £20 a month but don't have to rely on illegal streams and the content is exceptional, especially using Overplay which will convince Netflix you're in the US. Unless it's a 3pm Saturday game you're guaranteed to watch the Swans as well. Of course can still get all the streams etc that this readybakedpi could do as well ... it's just a PC with, I assume, XBMC installed on it.
Either way, I'd never go back to Sky, even with the offers they always give to new customers but won't to existing ones.

Yes, that's it. What I did was cancel sky and get bt infinity and basic youview with the hd recorder. Costs me £55 a month all in including line rental and then I use my Ready Baked Pi to watch whatever I want. I dont know anything about those android boxes or whether you will have to set it up, sorry. Mine came plug and play. Hope this helps.

My sons got one down his gaff and it's very good I was just wondering who else got em.
Yes got one, came sat connected it up, fantastic fighting with the kids over it. Watched stoke game on the big screen perfect picture, well worth it. Wi-Fi connection good (can freeze) Ethernet hard wire excellent. No need for Sky sports package any more

also you could go to xbmc hub ( http://www.xbmchub.com/) and download sportsdevil from their app store (or even better their hub wizard which will download lots of useful add-ons). Navi-x had a high quality BEIN TV (ex al-jazeera) stream up last night.

Hi there
I'm a bit thick when it comes to computers. Can you explain something to me in simple terms? Can I just download the XBMC software onto my laptop and then, when I feel like, fire it up and watch through my TV? i.e. do I need to buy another box of electronics or not?
Also, I have been known to use some of the flash streams that abound cyberspace and I know its hit and miss whether you get a good one. Is this XBMC lark a better bet then?
Finally, I used to try the sopcast streams, but I've heard that as a recipient of the feed you also become a broadcaster (e.g. a bit like torrenting I suppose). I am less comfortable with the prospect of rebroadcasting for obvious (legal) reasons. Using XBMC won't get me into similar bother will it?

Yep,watched all last night's game on it and it was flawless. I'm not the best at this kind of thing but been messing about for about a week and I seem to have got it sussed on my laptop. If anyone's struggling like I was at the beginning I found the tutorials on YouTube helpful.

I've downloaded XBMC on to the laptop and had some success but am getting some invalid user messages when I try some streams and fims also some parts have empty files.
