Has there ever been a worse offseason? 03:57 - Jul 26 with 2454 viewsDylanP

Its a bloody train wreck.

Things usually work out differently from how I expect so hopefully this season will be no different. Because so far this offseason looks painfully crap. We have failed to offload any of the "must leave' lot. We have got rid of Mackie and DJ, two players who common sense says would be useful in the championship, even though we desperate need strikers. There has been too much talk of Adel leaving, even though we desperately need his creative spark. The few players who have come in are uninspiring, to say the least: over-the-hill, injury risk, attitude.

Gawd help us!!!

I'm just praying the likes of Hoilett and Granero somehow sort their act out and tear the Championship a new arsehole.

Unlikely though :-(

If in the next few days we sign, say, Austin,Townsend and maybe another couple people will soon change attitudes.

But we won't, because we are QPR.

We'll end up with someone like Troy Hewitt, destined never to play for our club, but heralded as a major coup.

Johnson will get injured first game and Remy will get put away - hoorah for King Bobby our one fit striker who will last three games before getting crocked.

And that is on the backdrop of letting DJ, Betty and Mackie go.

Aside from actually getting promoted, its been a pretty s h 1 tty ride since the money came in; just like I thought it would be... And, because of all the money, we're not likely to get back there anytime soon as if this does fail and they all go, we won't need to worry about buckets to get a player; we'll have nowt left.

Sorry for the Negatitvity; its just what being QPR does to you...

Can we go out yet?

I am a little bit confused. We had a load of signings in the last two close seasons and even though lots of them were half decent footballers the team became progressively worse until we fell out of the Premiership like a stone.

Now, we aren't bringing in new signings by the bus-load, it seems that lots of people think that that's what we need. I think it may be time to rein back a bit and see if Harry and, after all, some very well respected coaches, can't make a decent team for the Championship out of more or less what we've got.

1st target don't forget: do not do a Wolves.......... everything else is a bonus

I agree with you that our first priority is not to do a Wolves. Probably not advisable to sign the ex-Captain of Wolves then.

Interesting what Derry was saying on Talksport the other night - with Redknapp laid up McLaren, Bond and Jordan have been leading training with the aim of improving them. Something people on here have been talking about, instead of throwing more money around and signing a whole raft of new players.

Time will tell if they've been successful or not.

Thank you. You are absolutely correct. However bad this offseason is, it isn't anywhere near as bad as that one.

I wasn't looking for us to be a buying team this offseason. The opposite. I was looking for us to offload the likes of Granero, MBia, Park, Boswanka, Barton, and SWP so that our wage bill would go down and we wouldn't be in financial difficulties. As it is, we did well to get rid of Samba and Cisse, but then it stopped. Our expenditures probably haven't improved very much overall.

But your point is well taken. It has definitely been worse than this.

Of course, Mr. Blob, anything I post is, funnily enough, speaking for myself; I wouldn't profess to be able to speak for everyone else.

With QPR, I always (these days) expect the worst and, aside from that promotion season, have usually been right. I just wish for once that I get completely and utterly proved wrong, we start the season flying (as we did under Warnock) and never look back.

Well ...... it has oft been said that its the hope that kills you. This time last year it was a case that lots of people thought that we would be top ten / mid-table no problems, champions league winners signed here there and everywhere- and then the mammeries pointed north!

This year its all doom and gloom - and I am all for it! Rangers always do exactly what you dont expect them to. So keep on with the negativity and see us romp to promotion .... (only to have it snatched away with points deduction down to "issues" with transfers to and from Russia!)

Problem is getting rid of what we have is more important to us now than adding players to it.

Cesar, Bosingwa and hopefully another will be gone in the next few days hopefully, thus leaving only 431 unwanted high-earners.

I'd suggest being in administration with 8 senior pros signed up (two with long term knee injuries) and just relegated was probably slightly worse. Cramming in pre-season friendlies with whoever would play us so we could work our way through 40 trialists and try and put some sort of team together.

What Holloway did that summer was miraculous.

Some much better off seasons have resulted in a poor season following. This off season has been poor because:-

1) We haven't offloaded our big earners who don't want to be at QPR quickly enough.

2) Some of our favourite players don't want to be at the club and are leaving or have left.

3) The players we have signed so far are not going to fill the very obvious creative gap at QPR.

4) Barton is still at QPR.

5) We have missed out on our main striker target.

6) Our negotiators don't seem to be very good at negotiating.

7) We fear we will be forced to buy the dregs of players nobody else wants at the end of the transfer window, which was how we got in the position we are in in the first place.

8) Our owner insists that we should not be despondent and we are beginning to wonder if he has a handle on reality.

I suppose its possible to recover the situation, but when I see other clubs doing better deals than us without the level of liability of overpaid prima-donnas on their books, it brings home what a terrible state our club is in.
