Three favourite films of all time on 13:00 - Feb 6 by hoops_legend | Worried by the number of people who have put Zulu here... A film essentially about England invading an African nation and then being lauded as heroes for fighting off the local people with much superior firepower... The present day comparative is like if a country invaded UK, got themsleves an area in London and throw nuclear bombs at those trying to attack them |
Well there will be jingoistic people who like the film because of British (Welsh, specifically) spunk in the face of overwhelming odds and all that, and Rorke's Drift was lauded at the time as a PR exercise after Isandalwhana, hence the 11 VS's. But, I think the film gives a balanced view and certainly doesn't hide it's admiration for Zulu bravery and respect for Zulu culture. And if we're being pedantic, the Zulu's ended up with such a powerful empire within South Africa by invading neighbouring tribes' lands and defeating them by conquest. Often with superior numbers!

Come on Dan enough of this balance in an attempt to dampen his self-deprecation, just stick to the 'we were all horrible bastards once' script. What about Kes?

Three favourite films of all time on 15:17 - Feb 6 with 1702 views | Phildo | In response to the earlier poster who suggested and pre 75 carry on films I think they could have a separate thread. My vote in that one would go to carry on again doctor - which i think is the one with the More Nookie clinic? Dr Nookie being the great Sid James? Edit: Just looked it up - Sid James was in fact Gladstone Screwer! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

So many good ones. Am I the only person who thinks a younger Joan Sims was quite attractive in a buxom way? My office is 25 yards from where she lived and died.

Isn't that somewhere between West Ken and Ken High Street? When I was a fresh behind the ears bank clerk in my first ever job at NatWest West Ken in Olympia I am pretty sure she was one of our customers and lived close by. We also had Carmen Silvera (RIP) who was not a very pleasant customer to deal with back in the day.

Any films i've watched make the germans out to be idiots and that was far from the case. Has anybody ever seen the North Face? It's a movie about climbing the eiger. Well worth a watch.

It's between Gloucester Road and the former 'Barkers'. There is even a little plaque on the wall. Just off Kensington Square Gardens.

So not that far from West Ken then. It must have been your comments about working on Joooolz, but I presumed you worked at the Beeb in White City

Three favourite films of all time on 16:04 - Feb 6 with 1621 views | Antti_Heinola | I like Shawshank but I am constantly flabbergasted by its place at the top of so many lists. It's good. I like it. I like Tim and who doesn't love Morgan? But most favourite ever? Weird. I knew a girl once whose fave film was Home Alone 2. I can think of at least one film better than that. Anyway, for what it's worth: Rear Window An American in Paris Tokyo Story but tomorrow it might be Ma Nuit Chez Maud In the Mood For Love Do The Right Thing or Apocalypse Now The Conversation Four Months, Three Weeks, Two Days Depends how I feel.

Joan was a bit tidy in her younger days and Hattie Jacques was a bit of a goer as well.

Animated movies are shit. Especially the new computery ones. Every single fking one of them is the exact same thing and the CGI kills all the emotion anyway. He's a new toy and he has to hang out with a bunch of old toys and it's a fish out of water story. He's a race car and he has to hang out with a bunch of old cars and it's a fish out of water story. He's an ant from a village and has to hang out with ants from a city or something and it's a fish out of water story. He's a fking ogre from a swamp and has to hang out with royalty and it's a fish out of water story. He's a fish from a reef thing and he fking ends up in some sort of fking ocean and it's a fish out of water story. Literally.
| Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. |
