Is it too early? 05:22 - Jan 7 with 1976 viewsderbyhoop

Given our current position, it's hard to see us going down nor reaching the playoffs. Although, neither are impossible.

So, shouldnt the club be assessing next season's squad and ensuring we keep those we want/need to keep. To me that means Dunne, Chair and Frey. Morgan getting an updated contract. Possibly, offer Cook a 1 year deal.

I don't see any need to repeat last Summer's European trolley dash. A few carefully selected, both stats and attitude, additions could trigger a steady improvement.

Also, need to look at those we should release, e.g. Andersen, Santos and Colback. Probably EDB as well.

The benefit of our league position is that we don’t need to make short term expensive loan signings in jan window to get us through to the end of the year- like Isaac Hayden last year. Obviously we signed Edwards but that was 6 points ago (that might turn out to be a wasted signing even if he is good for a few months)

We can stay in the league with what we have and we’re better off saving our limited resources for next seasons push.

Agreed it’s an opportunity to give playing time to kids but besides kolli and Morgan, who are in any case getting minutes, curious who else there is in the set up?

Think there’s also a case to thinning the squad and loaning out players to get some wage relief and give players experience- santos edb etc

Play-offs are possible. Three more winnable games this month...

Lets not get carried away. 6 weeks ago, people were on here wanting the managaer, the CEO, and just about everyone else jn the club sacked, sold or hung drawn and quartered.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Agree.

The top four are away and clear and the next three are all very strong teams.

Play offs are a fantasy but to be honest, would I want us to go up, debatable.

Likely to do a Southampton if we did, so would more than likely be a waste of a season.

Both are possible but i think relegation is more realistic than play offs so we just need to focus and keep plugging away. Easy to get cocky and suddenly dragged back in.

On an unbelievable two points a game over the last eleven games but don’t look at the eight points look at the total you need to get by the end of the season and that would mean keeping this same incredible run going for another 20 games and even then you’d miss out most seasons!

How can it be a waste of a season if we bank a huge amount of cash , have a few good days , and play Chelsea twice ?

Players come, players go. Don't get too attached to anyone.

The better our players do, the more likely they are to be courted by Championship teams who haven't got our spending restrictions.

That said, if the keeper goes I'll f**king shit.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Blackburn?

I get that it's unlikely but I don't think you can write off the season when we're literally eight points off the play-offs with 20 matches left and playing well. Let's face it, if the players thought like that, we'd quite rightly slag them off! And I'd take a play-off final every time over midtable mediocrity.

I think now we've gotten out of imminent threat of death, I really want us to try to finish as high as possible. Have a nice clean break and reset with a positive season and reset the mindset from circling the drain

I would keep Colback, we were under pressure, he came on and broke up their play and we looked a lot more assured.

I would have thought that the general consensus among most Luton fans would be favourable.

Unlike when we were in the "promised land", they didn't squander the £150 million on wasters like Barton, instead that has gone to pay for their new ground, which means that they are now secure for many years to come. We could and should have done similar with our premier league largesse when there were many plots of land available and situated in the same area as our current ground. That's now history.

They won't be going down this season. We should have won comfortably last night, but in the end, it could have been a drawn game.

Or are we bottom of the top half?

In the same 'top of the bottom half Vs bottom of the top half' sense above, I've been wondering what's the internal conversation between Marti and Christian?

Has Marti done great things with the squad, despite continuing to tell the club that there are yearning gaps that need to be filled.

Or does Nourry get to tell him “I told you they'd come good“.

Can imagine a fair bit of back and forth over that this transfer window.

There are 24 teams and we’re 13th. Even I can work that one out.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

For this season I would just us like us to get to a nice comfortable 60-63 points - somewhere around 10th - 13th tbh. Not hoping for too much more - but continue to develop the young players and gel the team. Hope against hope 2025/26 can see us be a consistently good team through the season with a smaller number of additions - none of this being great for twelve months but still finishing midtable as we were terrible for 3-4 months either side of it.

There will, however, be a f*****g riot if they let Jimmy Dunne leave on a free.

On the contrary, Luton used the money from one year in the Premier League to start building a new stadium.

Edit: see others have made the same point, apologies

Think we're safe now. As regards to Playoffs, not worth thinking about until we're in touching distance which we are most definitely. Just enjoy mid-table decent football for now and see what Marti can conjure in the next couple of months.

It's not too early to start negotiations with whichever players the club wishes to retain come what may (Dunne being the standout example).

Beyond that, it is too early to make any firm assumptions based on our current league position. In 6 short weeks we've gone from rock bottom to mid-table. The Championship is a crazy league. Many outcomes are still possible at this stage.
