906,000
Blooming heck.
Less than 30,000 arrived by boat.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

How many millions spent and news coverage given to stopping the boats. It's a tiny drop compared to the number coming in

I see Starmer is complaining about immigration yet when opposition Labour blocked every attempt to control it.

Let us see how Labour manage to reduce it.
Tony Blair opened the floodgates to mass immigration.

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

The 906,000 is a net migration figure, while the small boat figure relates to arrivals. The latest revised figures for total arrivals was 1.3 million for YE June 2023 and 1.2 million for YE June 2024 - really high numbers.

I find it mind blowing to learn that in recent years the number of immigrants needing to be integrated into UK society exceeds the population of Wales. That cannot have anything less than transformative effect on a society and culture.

With the incredible number of people in the UK who have never worked, are these 1m a year making up for it or just adding to the numbers?
40% of people over 16 in Birmingham have never worked in their lives.

Immigration is way off the scale, nearly a million a year completely legal migrants invited to this country is bonkers and completely unsustainable. Invited by a government who have completely destroyed public services through austerity.

It's the boats that are the problem though even though they make up less than 5% of the total. And of course Starmer's for not sorting it out in 5 months.

As I said above, the numbers of immigrants entering the UK in the last two years for which we have figures are 1.3 million and 1.2 million, not nearly a million. The latter is the net figure when people leaving are taken into account, but it is the gross figure that represents the new arrivals who need to integrate and build new lives.

Good question. I couldn't find an answer for recent immigrants, but there is some data here for UK-born, other EU born and foreign non-EU born persons.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/915732/immigrant-employment-rate-uk/

It seems that around 20% of EU born working age adults in the UK are unemployed, while it is around 25% for UK and non-EU foreign born persons.

Damn, and there's me thinking Farage with his loudhailer at the top of the white cliffs had sorted it!

It would be interesting to see that data broken down in to demopgraphics. I suspect a significant percentage of those non-EU persons are students if they aren't accounted for, children and women (who often don't work).

Looking around the stadium on a match day over 90% of staff in the food / drink places are immigrants, probably 40% of stewards. The Africans I've spoken to are usually Nigerian students most seem to be studying "public health", the Indians some form of engineering.

Ineterestingly despite the number of students (and families) from SE in uni in Swansea I've never seen any in work.

When I was a teenager and then a student I was dying to get a Saturday / part time job. It was difficult. Why the stadium isn't full of non-immigrants but actually local young people is a question that would go a long way to reducing our dependence on immigrant Labour. Becasue it is a dependence.

How could labour oppose it when the Tories had the majority.

Highest ever immigration figures in the year up to 2023. Take a bow Tories

It's actually gone up since we left the EU. Any comment Mr Farage ?

And some of that is going straight onto the national debt, as the current tax take isn't high enough to cover all public expenditure. The recent OBR estimate of the life-time cost of low skilled immigrants was sobering. We can benefit from some immigration but need to be more selective
