Players performances v Coventry 22:14 - Oct 22 with 1204 views | numptydumpty | Varane looked decent Smyth lively at the exact time he was taken off. Field combative. Dembele wasn't in the game. Morgan played well on Saturday and again today. Great finish. Well done young man. Very impressed. Saito at times is a menace and on occasions makes good defensive challenges too. Probably better with him on than Paal today. Nardi kept us in the game and is excellent on one on one's. Defence OK not that challenged apart from on the break when their collective lack of pace is a worry. Celar - Get rid - Lloyd Frey and Kolli ahead of him for me.

He has been sluggish all season so that was good to see. Celar was often up against 3 bit really did not look like he fancied it. Not sure what he is - not a back to goal or quick fwd.

I thought Saito was our MoM tonight. All the good things went through him first half (Field should have scored that cut-back to him) and second half he did a solid job as a makeshift left-back. Always full of running, once or twice made the wrong decision but on the whole I'd say his best game for us so far.
Players performances v Coventry on 00:29 - Oct 23 with 718 views | LazyFan | Nardi: 6. Decent, some nice saves but also dodgy sometimes by pushing the ball back out into play. Paal: 5. Came off injured but did not look up for it anyway. A charitable 5. Dunne: 6 Decent, better at RB than CB but lost the ball a few times, nothing majorly wrong. Cook: 6 Decent but looked tired late on. I worry he's about to get injured again. JCS: 7 Quality defending kills the ball, and plays out well. No more of those silly passes he is sometimes prone too. Smahed their players around a bit as well, without getting booked. Smyth: 7 An assist and yes he meant it. He looks up, just as Morgan calls for it. Pinned their fullback Da Silva back hard. Da Silva is supposed to be an attacking fullback and Smyth pushed him back hard. So, hard Smyth got cramp and had to come off. We have asked Smyth to produce quality crosses and he did. Field: 6 Better upfield, trying to win the 2nd ball, which he did a lot. But missed a great chance on goal. He must be happy he's not on his own. Getting Field to win the second ball or at least force them back when they do is a tactic we can only employ if someone like Colback or Varane is behind him to mop up and also help break the press. Varane: 7 Gets better each game and this one he played like a midfield general. Dropped into the space to help the team break the press. Able to receive turn the ball and play it into the wings. This allows Field to go forward and try to win the 2nd ball for our own breakaways but in their third. That's the difference Varane and Colback make, they free up Field to go press to win the second ball. Chair: 6 Looked a little fitter and faster. Was able to beat a few players. They put two on him which allowed Smyth the space over the other side. Worked well with Saito. Still not fully fit as subbed on 60m again. Dembele: 5 Not great tonight, not really in the game. Could be because he had no support from Celar. Celar: 5 Again unimpressive. Offered very little upfront before being taken off in the second half. Few nice flicks and runs, which suggests to me he needs it played directly into him. A generous 5 as he was up against 3 defenders. Saito: 8 Supposedly, came on as LWB. To me, he was playing LB and unlike Paal just got forward better and then got back in time. Good tackling and positioning. Only caught out in the 2nd half, when Cov nearly scored, Cook saved that one. If he can head against a big man (as some teams target the fullback with the CF to win diag headers against) and he can defend against a real winger which the Cov player was not (as in someone like a Willock or a pace merchant) then he should play LB and replace Paal long term. That's how good he was in this game. Needs to be tested more at LB if Paal is out and maybe even if Paal is not out. Morgan: 7 Made himself available like EDB, and didn't lose the ball. Called for the cross and did the textbook thing of hitting it into the ground. This bamboozled the Cov keeper and hence a goal. Played well with nice passes and was able to hold it and help break the press. Andersen: 6 Helped us get back up the pitch when he came on. Still not fast enough though. he's got the skill, he's just not quick enough. Old age you know. Lloyd: 5 Came on late, he's not a replacement for Celar though. He's really a winger despite what he may claim. He can beat a man for pace, but then loses control of it. Note: We were also lucky that Simms is so gash. £8m for that shite. Wasted the Gork money on him they have. hahaha!
