New players need a few games to bed down. Masden only arrived in the country yesterday FFS. Well impressed with Dembele but poor Saito looked like he’d been just dropped in from another country. Which indeed he had. Elementary mistake by Marti. This will be a good team in a few weeks but we can’t afford to throw away points.

QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 14:36 - Aug 24 by QPunkR | I was trying to give Celar time and admittedly he's still only had a handful of minutes in English football and could well still be a 10 goal a season striker but fk me he was awful today. Frey played really well even apart from the will taken goal. Good good up play and no little skill. When he went off, so did or I chances of 3 points |
He was cooked though we shouldn't have wasted the first half when Smyth and Frey never last much beyond 75mins. Paal's passing was bloody woeful today too. Marti seems to want to win games early but we couldn't hold a lead if we were walking a three legged chihuahua.

QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 15:00 - Aug 24 with 3048 views | MelakaRanger | Totally frustrating today. Yes we should have won and by 3 or 4 goals. But the performance gives me great encouragement for the coming season. The news guys all played well and will only get better Dembele is a Gem. And once Celar starts scoring I don’t think he will stop. Frustrating but very very encouraging

QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 14:45 - Aug 24 by Spaceman_P | Its funny how a draw sometimes feels like a win (Sheff Utd) but today it felt like a loss. Celar I think is alright, has a goal awareness. I think once he bags a couple, he'll be open sesame I think. |
Good post Spaceman_P we escaped last Saturday but let this one get away through a combination of poor finishing ,superb goalkeeping and bad luck basically. How many crosses glanced of our heads instead of finding the corner and when Celar finally meets one the defender gets a piece to divert it away. How many penalty shouts did we have turned down but they had a massive one turned down which was going to be a red card for JCS so we dodged the bullet there . I am hungover but could see like Disco posted that Edwards is a fcuking wan*ker and probably should have walked for dissent (I know he is captain). He even got into it with his keeper who earned them that draw. I thought Dykes should have come on btw and Saito would have destroyed Plymouth in that second half if he did not start oh well its not all doom and gloom .

Yeah we needed someone to think a bit more about the final pass in the final third: he’d have made a big difference. Played them off the park in the second half but missed multiple chances and their keeper did very well. The new players will improve. Frey was my MOTM: excellent centre forward performance.
QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 15:02 - Aug 24 with 2958 views | derbyhoop | Frustrating. Cant fault the effort, but you have to give Argyle credit for the way they defended. Keeper will never put in a performance like that ever again. Frey and Dembele were good, but both faded, as did Madsen. Anderson and Chair returning will be an improvement.

You aren't going to win many games early if you can only manage one goal. Never looked like scoring after 6 mins TBH. When the whole squad is available we will know more. Think it could be a long wait for our first Championship win. Just need to make sure we don't get caught in the wrong end of the table for too long.

| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 15:11 - Aug 24 with 2747 views | ManinBlack | The reality is Plymouth played an hour with 10 men here last season and got a draw. Today they played an hour with 10 men and 9 in stoppage time and held on. This inability in putting the ball in the net will cost us dearly making the season more difficult than it needs to be. Wednesday stuck 4 past them with less shots than we managed.

He puts the ball in, but he never looks and picks a man out, he just blindly puts a ball in. It's very rarely in the right place. There is very little football craft from him.

He put in a fair few decent balls today and beat his man on a number of occasions. And the guy clearly cares about the club and is always available too!

Dykes wasn't in the match day squad. On Sky they said he wasn't injured so sounds like he may be on the move.

QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 15:31 - Aug 24 with 2231 views | joe90 | Disappointing result and performance. Smyth struggled today and Plymouth exploited it. We spent the rest of the game trying to accommodate him. Madden, not impressed. Didn’t get involved and spent long periods drifting…but he did look okay the few times he got on the ball. He seems more inclined to go forward, which is a positive. My feeling during the game was that he’s potentially Dozzell mk2. I hope I’m wrong. Celar, also unimpressive. I thought Dunne, Dembele and Frey were the stand out players. It’s only August and I think we’ll see big improvements. Not going to s**t the bed yet, but that was disappointing and frustrating, especially after the first goal where it looked like we would steam roll them.

As much as I have criticized Dykes in the past...he is arguably our best striker. But even he isn't prolific...so we continue to struggle up front. Chair is the only one who seems able to create a goal for himself as well.Smyth is a trier... but lacks guile. He did look better than Saito on the other wing mind you. Hoping for better things from our Japanese addition.Just seen that Dykes is on his way back to Scotland. Hope we have replacement lined. [Post edited 24 Aug 15:35]

I definitely don't hate Smyth and think he makes things happen. I think he often tries to win fouls that won't get us into as good a position as if he just took his man on and put a cross in. Once it's a set piece in the championship it's not as easy to fins space. I also think he sometimes puts in good crosses but rarely puts in the right cross for what is actually happening. As in, he doesn't look up and pick a pass, just plays it somewhere roughly attacking.
QPR V The Pilgrims Early Thanksgiving Stuffing Hopefully Match Thread . on 15:50 - Aug 24 with 1819 views | numptydumpty | Decent game Was one of those days Could have had 100 shots and we still wouldn't have scored a second Green Shoots First 15 minutes I thought Dembele was unplayable. If he keeps his form, he will be superb. Frey also was much improved and gave a very solid centre forward performance. Thought Madsen played some decent balls and looks a unit too. Field played well and did what he does. Celar also, created a couple of chances and although skied three opportunities, he was in the right place absolutely. And on top of this, we still have Chair and Andersen to come back. My gripe perhaps which may be a bit controversial. Both our full backs can be easily beaten. Strangely Dunne is very effective at set pieces and occasionally out bustling his opposite numbers down the wing but he is often beaten for pace and skill and I think over the entire season he is not likely to be number one choice at right back. Not sure where Cannon is and so far Santos has shown little so far. He needs bit more confidence I feel. And Paal quite often plays like he is not wanted here anymore. There have been noises he is on his way but we will see and Fox again would be OK but like Dunne his default position is centre back. BTW the ref was absolutely dreadful. Awful performance. Lost his authority and many terrible decisions both ways. They actually could have had two others sent off, the flick in the face on Madsen was only given as a yellow and the number eight their captain was booked and moaning constantly. Plymouth defence held firm. Rooney like battling and you have to say well done to them. On another day we win that 4 - 1. It was just one of those days in front of goal. The chances we are creating and the overall play is so far superior than this time last year and some of our fans would do well to remember this. There is certainly a lot of green shoots though. We will come good. [Post edited 24 Aug 15:54]

Occasionally beats a man and whizzes down the line and then 99/100 times messes it up. For me he is just not good enough for this level and if he slaps his side one more time after he has messed up o think I will explode. For me wel drew today because he was so poor. Celar also had 3 clearcut chances and each effort was very poor. Plus I sit right behind the supposed great save. The ball was going at 1mph and was always going to be saved

Interesting, I thought Field looked ponderous, indecisive, did his usual thing of passing backwards or sideways. Improved second half but just looks rusty and low on confidence to me.
