Up until recently I was able to buy 5 star red Mahou beer at the original ABV 5.1% . I've noticed that i can now only purchase a lower strength 4.5% version brewed for the UK . The bottles have these cheap labels stuck on them, not the embossed logo on the original brew. It tastes completely different.
Also i've noticed Cruzcampo, which is sunk to the nuts everywhere in every bar and club across the land, is a knock off UK brewed lower ABV of the original. It's nothing like the original In Spain. Same with Japanese Kirin Ichiban, can't get the original brew anymore, just a lower ABV UK fugazi. Rosa Blanca that ambrosial Lager from Mallorca, we get a 3.4% version of the 5% original. 3. 4% ! that's top deck shandy levels.
Moretti, Leffe , Stella and Brewdog lost and IPA punk have also dropped the ABV% of their brews in the last 6 or so months.
I understand that Madri is a uk brewed product but I can no longer buy Portuguese Superbock or Sagres , Spanish Moritz, or German Warsteiner and Paulaner from any main supermarket that were freely available just 3 months ago. Even Those harry monk brews carlsberg , Carling and fosters are dropping their ABV to risible 3.4% and 3.6% respectively.
Why?, Can't the regular sociable drinking public be responsible for ourselves?? Can't we be trusted to consume beers as they were created in their original format??. Is it to do with tax laws/import duty on beers over a certain ABV percentage making it economically unviable for brewers to export beer to the UK?. Even stuff thats brewed in the UK is being reduced to baxter soup thin gruel.
We are left with the world knowing the UK has the weakest mainstream beer in the world, at the highest prices.
The last government through total incompetence will end up destroying the great British beer heritage.
Rant over, i'm off to stick me finger in my ear playing the Bodhrán to steeleyespan.

Chemicals in UK brewed beer…..
Many, many years ago I worked for a company that had the refurb contract at Stag Brewery Pretty soon after it was bought by Ann-Hauser-Busch
Let me tell you I stopped drinking Budweiser there and then after a walk around the processing plant to price a job up. There was stacks and stacks of bags of Carlite plaster stored there. I asked if they had another Contract going on to plaster the walls and was shocked to be told it’s added to the vats as part of the bonding / brewing process and I actually saw this happen. Fella thought it was hilarious with all sorts of wisecracks about “ getting plastered”. I felt sick as I drank bottles of Bud like nobodies business in the 90’s abound, even then, there was info about plaster dust being carcinogenic
Key to avoiding hangovers for me is to find a clean cool lager (bottled mostly) and stick on it with no mixing with other labels or variations of booze. Usual one for me is Corona but I also find Porretti good as well
Sorry mate but budweiser has and always will be the equivalent of a Doctor white Jam wrag percolating in a baking hot cloche.

Leffe is now brewed in the UK with a lower ABV% Little point trying it as it will bear no resemblance to the Belgian nectar.
Why is our lager beer so cra p compared to the rest of the world? Cheaper ingredients I guess.
First happened to me in 1980 when the Courage pub near my work sold German Hoffmeister. People would come to the pub just for that beer until one day when I took a sip of my pint and tasted something totally different. Now brewed in the UK said the Landlord and that was that.

lol!.. we did the same.. tipped some of his ashes oppoiste the peterboat on the jetty while my sister played ' Green onions' by Booker T on her speaker, the emotional aspect was spoiled a bit when it blew back over me aunties dorthy perking funnel coat.
His ashes refused to move from where we emptied them into the water and they washed back up on the sand as if he was hanging around for his customary pint and Cockles.
we had to empty the remaining ashes in the pub garden by dropping them down our trouser legs surreptitiously like we were in the great escape , tunneling out from stalag 19 and have to get rid of the dirt.

Hoffmeister making a big come back atm, a few pubs in my darts league serving it in steins, which is high risk
I live near a few branches of Clapto Craft, so while it's not cheap, this bad boy is low key GOATed, when a German helles is the vibe

People have been complaining about beers having a low ABV (to keep prices down/profits up due to duty etc).
But I really used to love a pint of Chiswick, not just for its taste (strong on hops), but also for the fact that with an ABV of 3.5%, it was the perfect session beer.
In fact, even if only having a swift pint, I preferred it over London Pride.
Afaik, they withdrew it from general sale about a decade ago, promising that it would still come back as an occasional "seasonal" ale, but I've never seen it.
Grrrrr.

I too used to love Chiswick at lunchtimes, I wish they'd bring it back. I really like HSB on handpump which occasionally pops up in Fullers pubs. I think it would be good in cans to drink at home. I like canned Pride at home. It's stronger than the bottles at 4.7% and tastes nearer to the draught.

The classics that both IPA/bitter drinkers and lager boys can agree on being a decent beer;
Pilsner Urquell Budvar
Further love most high to krombacher .
Yet to try the new Moretti with sea salt, sounds a bit salt bae iffy to me.

Although I'm mainly a Ghost Ship or Black Sheep drinker, I'm perfectly happy with a Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, Staropramen, Menabrea, and Gambrinus (when I can find it). I'll definitely give Augustiner Helles a try.
