It seems farmers are beginning to rebel against the Senedd , maybe others take note that certain groups have had a enough of mismanagement and the drive towards the madness of zero emissions

It is utter madness to be making farmers worse off (and to be planting trees on perfectly good farmland) at a time when we are encouraged to eat less meat. That's before we get to the cost of living crisis and the high food prices.

We need more farmers, we need more crops. Plant trees on land not suitable for crop farming. Stop pushing hard working farmers towards bankruptcy.

But what is the alternative. Conservative no, Plaid no the only sensible alternative is independent AMs representing their constituency and the benefit of Wales as a whole. Its never going to happen under the new Senedd set up because Labour have made it unachievable without a consultation with the people of Wales.

The only viable alternative would be a new party with the word Labour in its title.
"Labour Cymru" or something.
In terms of land area, most of Wales voted Conservative or Plaid. It's South Wales and the Valleys that supported Drakeford. Put the word Labour in there and they'll vote for it

Spot on there and I'd say we have the same issue at UK level two. Two big parties neither of which really have much intention of improving things for the people.

A farmer friend of mine mentioned that Cardiff Bays edict would mean him taking 50 acres of his land out of food production and him having to plant trees on the land.


At the same time the parish council down the Bay has got an application in to build almost 600 houses on its own prime farm land in the area.

Hypocrisy and lunacy are two words that spring to mind.

One would have to wonder how the rest of us and the occupants of all these new houses built on current farm land are to be fed after the houses are built on green sites and other farms have to lose 10% of their previous crop producing land.

Even Australia with a third of the population of the UK puts out more CO2 than we do.

if our emissions went up by 10% that'd be 1.103% but if China's went up by 5% the increase alone would be more than the entire Uk put out at 1.459%.

What this country is doing is insane and we need to remember, those are UK numbers, what is Wales CO2 output? Possibly around 0.2% of the word total. What Wales is doing literally makes no impact on anything other than working peoples wallets.

Almost 2 million trees have been cut down in Wales to make way for Wind farms. That is 2 million mature trees that would have reduced CO2 emissions far more than the equivalent number of saplings.

You grow trees suitable to the ground conditions , take a look at the lower Swansea valley for example , in the 60's not a tree stood in hundreds of thousands of acres due to the poisonous substances left behind after the industrial revolution .
Birch trees ( in which we have an abundance of) thrive everywhere , certainly along railway lines because of the abundance of ballast along the route.

I think you'll find that the vast majority of those trees were on Forestry commission land , trees specifically grown for commercial use and would have been cut anyway , once the turbines are built the trees cut are replaced, albeit strategically due to the needs of the wind farm .
All the wind farms I've worked on across the UK are either on Forestry commission land or private land atop hills where no trees had previously existed

It depends on the type of agriculture.

50 acres could mean just 250 sheep or 25 Dairy cows at usual stocking densities.

Most agriculture in Wales is in Least Favroured Areas, that aren't suitable for concentrated food production. Which is why we have so many sheep and cattle farms.

Traditional broad leave forestry is arguable a better land use.

Should farmers continue to receive handouts from the Government ?
They get given a lot of handouts. For various schemes, they have had money given to them over the last couple of years for concreting yards, new feed bins, hedging, solar panels, habitat, woodland, horticulture, to name just a few.
Not forgetting the single farm payment.

A mate of mine, who is honest, had almost £130,000 of free handouts last year.
I wish i was a farmer. I wouldnt moan about being given freebies.

Yes that's correct. That is why people who claim windfarms harm birds/insects/ bats etc are barking up the wrong tree. Peat is often completely overlooked by all of those.

These emissions targets have absolutely nothing to do with the climate - it's just a very useful vehicle to enforce them and gain more and more control.

They've started with cars (ulez etc), now they're slowly going after the food supply (with the end goal that we can only get food from the govt). Our houses will eventually be in the firing line as well (meet certain expensive emissions targets or bee fined + eventually lose your house)
