Just had a quick look at the squad, and who is contracted for next season:
Contracted for 2022/23 Sam Graham - Summer 2023 Max Taylor - Summer 2023 Aidy White - Summer 2023
Liam Kelly - Summer 2023 Conor Grant - Summer 2023 Jimmy Keohane - Summer 2023 James Ball - Summer 2024 Ethan Brierley - January 2024
Abraham Odoh - Summer 2023 Luke Charman - Summer 2024 Tahvon Campbell - Summer 2024
Out of Contract Joel Coleman Jay Lynch Brad Wade
Jim McNulty Eoghan O'Connell Jeriel Dorsett (loan expires) Joe Dunne Corey O’Keeffe Paul Downing (loan expires) Max Clark
George Broadbent (loan expires) Stephen Dooley Alex Newby
Josh Andrews (loan expires) Danny Cashman (loan expires) Matt Done
10 players contracted, 17 either out of contract or loan expiring. I half expect us to try and sign Broadbent & Dorsett permanently, but one thing is for certain - 2022/2023 will be a fully Stockdale squad. Out of everybody in contract for next season only Keohane & Grant are survivors from the BBM era! Hopefully the rumoured increased playing budget, coupled with a more settled club and experience from this season, will see a more competitive team next season.
GK Richard O'Donnell - Summer 2024 GK Brad Kelly - Summer 2023
CB Ethan Ebanks-Landell - Summer 2024 CB Sam Graham - Summer 2023 CB Jim McNulty - Summer 2023 LCB Cameron John - Summer 2024 RCB Max Taylor - Summer 2023 LB Aidy White - Summer 2023
SWISS Jimmy Keohane - Summer 2023 CAM Liam Kelly - Summer 2023 CM James Ball - Summer 2024 CM Ethan Brierley - January 2024 CDM Toumani Diagouraga - Summer 2023

Peter Thomas - offered contract
Probably a LWB, RWB needed now as priority, followed by back up keeper and then some additional width / creativity in the midfield for me. Feels like we are shaping up for a 352 again, but IMO we need that midfield width too in case we switch to 442 for / during games.

I agree with the wing backs but i think another GK and a CM... Rather have perminent signings though over loanees but i suppose how the finances are...
My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

The next few signings might show RS' cards so to speak. All depends now on if we bring in fullbacks or wingbacks. We do have a lot of centre backs though if we plan to play with only 2.
Really happy with the quality of signing so far on paper. However every time we have a preseason where I'm impressed I think back to us signing Lee Hodges. Helps keep me grounded

One thing I have noticed is that a number of the signings either have captaincy experience or have the previous club's fans talking about their leadership qualities. I am thinking of Ball, O'Donnell, Ebanks-Landell, Diagouraga and now John. It will be interesting to see who is picked as captain from the squad now that O'Connell has gone. Time will tell when we see how it all fits together but it appears on paper that we should be less of a pushover than in the past, though maybe lacking someone to scare the opposition in attack, a Mendez-Laing type player.

Fully agree with that.
If you include especially the January transfers I can't remember many seasons where we've brought in so many players 'in their prime' or experienced without being past it than this year.
There's some obvious gaps like full backs and potentially another goalkeeper. But the cherry on top would be the scare the opponent's to death player that you mention. I do think there's a lack of creativity and pace potentially. But it depends how well the defence fits together and if that allows the midfield more freedom or not.

Agree with this about leadership qualities and point in careers... all on 2 year+ contracts too.
I'll admit I've been mildly nervous (not at the stage of panicking!) about a lack of signings, especially when players we've been linked to as 'first choice' for certain positions have gone elsewhere, but I have to say I'm impressed with the calibre of players we have brought in so far.
A couple more experienced heads (ideally where opposition fans are saying they are surprised they are not in lg1!) would be great - pepper that with some of the exciting young loan signings from higher up and we could have a very decent looking squad.
I'd imagine the likes of Broadbent, Andrews, Cashman etc would've learnt even more last season with the likes of O'Donnell and Diagouraga around.

Which players were linked as ‘first choice’ and where have they ended up?
Didn’t know we’d had any such stories where players were mentioned.
Harry Boyes is one who we were linked with on loan for LWB, but he signed for Forest Green today.
There was a lad from Halifax too (Maher maybe?) who there was a lot of noise about - think he went to Grimsby.

Maher was one talked about on here I think but not heard about the other. Nothing to say either were a priority either, Stockdale has kept his cards close to his chest - not sure he’s even been interviewed recently to comment on the signings.

They weren't really linked though; they were just mentioned on Twitter by the likes of people doing 71 page Summer Recruitment Plans or people who run those supposed 'Transfer Centre' type accounts, which have very little basis. [Grant was going to WBA for £1 million last week!!]
You or I could go on there now and say we've been linked with a certain player just to see how far it goes, but I would hope we've both got more sense.
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

To be fair, any team we've ever had that didn't include Mendez-Laing could have done with a Mendez-Laing type player!
Seems to be more concern on Twitter around the state of the squad at the moment. I'm hoping some of the remaining pieces are already lined up in loan signings and it's just a matter of waiting for their clubs to release them to us.
Obviously need full/wing backs for both sides along to complement Keohane and White. And some more creative options. GK maybe as well.
But if we were starting the first game tomorrow I'm not sure I'd be overly concerned. I'll wait for the window to close to make my mind up on how I think we're looking.
Starting line up as it stands
O'Donnell
Keohane Taylor EEL John White
Ball Toumi Kelly
Rodney Charman Odoh
(Assuming Campbell is injured) Subs bench would be lacking quite a bit. B.Kelly McNulty Brierley Graham Scanlon
It needs to be remembered that the players we’ve let go played in a struggling team last season and didn’t rip up any trees, man of the match awards or not. If people just want signings for signings sake then that’s fine as long as they don’t moan about it when results don’t go our way.

Remember that some of those expressing concern on Twitter hate RS (because they thought BBM was ace) and seem to think using a 71-page template document somehow influences signings.

I did not realise the season started this weekend. We have a core of players but need a few, quality additions. We are probably looking at two full/wing backs a creative attacking midfielder/wide player to replace Grant and then either a centre back or midfielder depending on whether we will be playing with three centre backs. Other players would be a bonus.
From his interview last week Stockdale implied that he had at least a couple of loan signings lined up but that they would be having at least the start of preseason with their parent club.
I would much rather wait for quality than rush just so Tommy on Twitter is happy that we have made a signing. It will probably do some of the youth team players good to get a bit of game time over the next couple of weeks.
