Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 21:36 - Aug 17 by James1980 | Hopefully the demons of last season are being exorcised. We've conceded a goal in the last minutes and dropped points. We have scored a goal and quickly given a goal away. Stockdale can say right guys you don't need to worry about the mistakes of last season because they've been made they are out of our system. |

True although RS can say that might have been acceptable under the previous regimes but it isn't with this one.

Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 21:59 - Aug 17 with 3285 views | IOMDale | A very frustrating evening, all in all. We started brilliantly but the goal, coupled with Beesley having to go off, robbed us of our momentum. Forest Green are a physical side who move the ball well; you can see why they’ve been relatively successful in League Two these past couple of seasons. The defending for both goals was poor in the extreme but I’m hoping the new additions will learn on the job - we don’t have much choice. As others have alluded to, we’re so weak in the middle at present. If I were RS, I’d be genuinely tempted to use the remaining budget to bring in an experienced midfielder and an experienced forward. Can’t criticise Andrews too much tonight (hasn’t he recently had COVID?) but he did seem off the pace and for somebody so tall, won very few headers. I’m also hoping his first touch is a lot better as he gets up to speed as he’d have struggled to trap the proverbial bag of cement tonight. The weather didn’t help but then we’ve both got to play in it so that’s not much of an excuse. Lastly, big kudos to Odoh who constantly looked threatening. It’s great to see somebody picking up the ball and looking to run straight at defenders. Onwards and upwards, I’ve no doubt things will improve as the squad gels and we (hopefully) bring in a couple of experienced additions.
Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:01 - Aug 17 with 3246 views | funkkk | Patience was always going to be needed this season. I feel for RS, with the injuries & isolation the squad looks wafer thin. It’s hard to see where the goals are going to come from at the moment, games seem to be passing our midfield by and we still look a little shaky at the back! I must admit that I’m yet to be impressed by Graham either. The obvious frustration is conceding so quickly after we equalised, I really did think we were going to go on and win for all of a minute or so. We have to improve and I’m sure we will once we get players back and a couple of extra signings.
Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:04 - Aug 17 with 3188 views | NorthernDale | 3rd bottom now, we are in for very hard season, we could be bottom on Saturday, I am getting worried. The squad is wafer thin, we need at least two experienced midfielders and a decent striker. The kids have potential, but they are inexperienced. The defence looks not to bad, with O'Connell experience. I thought lynch was at fault for the second goal, he was slow to react. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Forest Green might have won three on the bounce but they were far from brilliant, and the first half was most definitely ours. If we had a forward who could finish we would’ve put the game to bed then and won comfortably. Odoh will be a star, it’s great to watch him. Taylor’s an interesting one - at times brilliant and st times McNulty-esque. He is improving though. Forest Green approached Grant McCann team levels tonight with their gamesmanship. By god, I couldn’t watch them every week, winning or not!

Ebou Adams’ kit will need a good wash as it’ll be full of grass stains, the amount of time he spent rolling around on the floor.
Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:24 - Aug 17 with 2912 views | 1907 | I know he’s desperately short of confidence, but I’m actually aghast at how badly Morley has started the season. We are so desperate for an experienced engine in the middle of the pitch it is unreal. Where we will find one of them at this stage is beyond me but we are so lightweight it is untrue. How we have started with 3 massive centre half’s tonight & conceded 2 god awful goals like that is beyond me. A really, really disappointing start to the season after such initial promise.
Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:25 - Aug 17 with 2895 views | milnrowblue | Another 90 minutes coming away disappointed. Harrogate weren’t great, Scunthorpe weren’t great & Forest Green weren’t great - what does that make us? No real bite in midfield, but that’s a given seen as Dooley is a winger and Morley is…Morley? Ran well out of patience with the lad in League One, thought he might perform a league down, but just as empty on patience with him already. Just because he’s come from the academy doesn’t mean he has to play every game. A strong centre-mid and an old fashioned goalscorer are much needed before August 31st. Odoh looked bright again, O’Connell solid as always, Newby unsurprisingly our goalscorer. Optimism is slowly dwindling, but not gone yet. #UTDNFS
Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:30 - Aug 17 with 2804 views | tony_roch975 | The formation leaves us the midfield 2 under pressure. Dooley had a great game, covered every inch and knits the midfield well cos he is always on for a pass and in the last 20 mins did all the defensive covering. Lynch had to deal with some abysmal pass backs but couln't see if he was a t fault for the 2nd. Done tried to give some attacking threat and it was no surprise the goal came from the left side with a lovely back post cross from Dooley. Taylor is still very naïve but he and O'Connell look promising. Graham is a liability at the moment, often caught wrong side. O'Keefe was very disappointing tonight and can't understand why Keohane got no minutes, could be used in midfield too. Odoh was impressive first half and much better defensively than Baah or Newby but disappeared in the 2nd half. Newby continues to frustrate me - lots of sideways stuff but lightweight, easily dispossessed. Beesley again failed to convert his chances and Andrews was ponderous as others have said. Still think we deserved a draw and the refereeing was abysmal - allowed them to be over-physical with no action, and they got away with time wasting from the 30th min. Still think we'll be ok.

Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:32 - Aug 17 with 2773 views | Sandyman | Another frustrating game. By far the better side first half yet we miss a sitter and go in a goal down. A welcome early goal 2nd half then parity is lost through not being professional enough to stay tuned into the game, and from then on, we got what we deserved. A few shining lights in individual performances but you get promoted out of League 2 by playing as a team as we well know. FGR did tonight. Robbie needs to let Sammy Lee watch that and do the mentoring. Can't expect R S to build that team game in a few weeks but it is surely a priority. Calamity Haines as referee finds ways to upset everybody as usual. Hope the FGR lad stretchered off is OK and has a speedy recovery. #upthedalenotforsale

Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:35 - Aug 17 with 2723 views | Harry_Dale | First time for me seeing Dale tonight, since last year - I must admit whilst the defeat is tough to take, there is evidence of a half decent side in our midst! We controlled large parts of the game and created a fair few chances. I recall us hitting the post twice? A bit of luck, the odd bounce here of there and it could have been completely different! Yes, their two goals came from mistakes but outside of those I didn’t see us defending too badly. With all the noise in the club at the minute, and a squad assembled weeks ago - I think the lads did well tonight! Our first win isn’t too far away. Odoh the star, Beesley missed and Newby was good. Centre halves need a touch more game time (and learning) and we’re desperate for a commanding keeper at the back! Lynch is neither big enough, strong enough or loud enough. All in all, a lot of positives from tonight. If Forest Green are gonna be up the top this year, then I think we’ll be absolutely fine. Up the Dale! [Post edited 17 Aug 2021 22:43]

Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 22:39 - Aug 17 with 2657 views | D_Alien | Incredibly frustrating to watch us dominating for long periods (again) but unable to convert our chances I was concerned about our midfield but tbf i thought we did better than expected in the first half, winning the ball back and looking sharper than them. Half chances not converted were going to cost us, and they strolled the ball into the net with their one chance (once Done had lost the 50/50) Our start has been pretty much as many forecast but i'm a bit more optimistic we'll start to pick up plenty of points soon. Players coming back from injury/illness and with the addition of a solid midfielder and i'm convinced from what i've seen that we'll be okay We'll do well to keep hold of Odoh for the season if he continues to perform like he is doing! I think the lino flagged the sitter offside when Done headed it to Beesley. Was still a bad miss offside or not. Very frustrating tonight and Saturday - can see us outplaying lots of teams this season but a lack of cutting edge will cost us lots of points.

I’m a big fan of Grant, but from what’s been evidenced in the first three games he’s not what we’re missing. The last time we got promoted from this league we had Peter Cavanagh as club captain and an absolute rock in central midfield. At the minute we have Morley who would look lost in an under 16 squad on current form. That is where we are severely lacking.

Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 23:16 - Aug 17 with 2262 views | EllDale | Some random thoughts. Firstly I thought the pitch looked really good. Remember that tonight was the third game in four days on it. Credit where credit is due. I was apprehensive when I saw the team tonight. Far too small and weak in midfield. Having said that I couldn’t fault Dooley tonight. Worked his socks off. Shame about Beesley but Andrews grew into the game. Should he have scored with free header though? If that had been Calvin there would have been some abuse on here. Graham to my mind is still feeling his way into mans football as is Taylor. If we lost O’Connell it would be a disaster as he is the glue that holds that defence together. Odoh was exceptional and deserved MOM and I was also impressed with O’Keeffe. Like so many other posters though I have to say that we’re missing an aggressive midfield general. Cavanagh, Stephen Dawson and Gary Jones are all cited as classic examples. Is Jimmy Ryan fit and available? But let’s not let a decent performance in defeat fool us. We could quite easily be in the quagmire of the bottom two by 5.00pm on Saturday.
Match Thread: Dale vs Forest Green on 23:17 - Aug 17 with 2263 views | boromat | Fitness and energy is what we're missing. Newby and Odoh are great but they only dropped deep to help Dooley and Morley in occasion be and wish we'd seen more of it. I would have preferred to see Keohane on for Beesley in the first half and put Done up top at least we'd have worked their defenders a bit, then maybe gone with the big lad later on. Cashman didn't do anything when he came on either. Also think to help Morley and Dooley out maybe we should have played a back 4 and gone with an extra body in midfield. On Saturday we're still going to be missing the 4 players I believe. Hopefully Beesley will be ok. Think I'd go back to 433 the best we can with what we have.
