Sinton spotted this from the off. And I think we expected it as well. I thought Dickie did well to limit Armstrong to a few off-balanced shots from outside the box. A 7/10 performance, but on his toughest assignment of the season (again) that's actually worth more than a 7 to the team.

It's somewhat clickbaity on WLS' part. Presented like this it's as though he just blurted out he thinks Dickie's crap; presumably he was asked a specific (unreported) question implicitly critical of playing Elliott centrally and he gave a specific answer as to why. [Post edited 7 Feb 2021 0:13]

Yes it must be a response to a question. It’s defensive from Mowbray - explaining his decision in an attempt to forestall criticism. Even so, I can’t recall a manager ever saying anything negative about the playing capabilities of an opposition player before. Yes I’ve heard them complain if an opponent milked a challenge and got someone sent off, or deliberately hurt someone. But not something negative about ability. | | | |

Refreshing from Mowbray and only saying what we all know in that Dickie is great in the air and on the deck but turns like the USS Ronald Reagan.
Dickie won this battle this time but Mowbray was correct in deploying Armstrong against him.

The thing is though, watching those highlights, it could well have worked as there were three or four times that Armstrong did isolate Dickie and he breezed past him. With our WBs generally high up the pitch, there will always be gaps there and the left and right CBs will need to be makeshift full backs; as much as I like Dickie, Barbet is way more comfortable in that role... |  |

I think Dickie will end up in the centre of 3 where his pace is likely to be less exposed, he probably needs a bit more experience and be able to read the game better for that to happen. A pacy centre half to play in the middle or right of the 3 to compensate would be great, shame we still havent got Furlong as hed be class there. | | | |
