‘If there’s no other way you’ve got to bring the government down’ on 13:54 - Jun 18 by londonlisa2001 | The Eu doesn’t decide abortion policy in the UK. Happy to help. |
Neither does Trump or JRM. Happy to point out your double standards.

‘If there’s no other way you’ve got to bring the government down’ on 13:44 - Jun 18 by Highjack | Abortion is illegal in Poland except in the event of rape or incest or when the baby is malformed. Tusk was leader of Poland for many years. Why are remainers happy to condone and support people like this to be president of the European council but then simultaneously condemn people like JRM and Trump for anti abortion stances? Tusk would be well to the right of the Tory party. The hypocrisy is astounding. |
You brought abortion, JRM into the discussion. You then try to use Poland as an example of why you are correct? Trying to deflect or introduce irrelevant dynamics into a discussion only goes to show up your shallow approach.

There are no double standards. None. I criticise the abortion policies of individual US states, or the views of others like Rees Mogg. I’d criticise the views of those like Tusk, or the idiot that runs Hungary as well. Or Italy. It has zero relevance to whether I think membership of the EU is the right thing for us. Since abortion policy is not decided by the EU. If you don’t like it when people say you’re stupid, stop making such stupid comments.

I was directly responding to the guy who said the EU was communist, pointing out correctly that all of the commission, the president of the European council and a large proportion of the European Parliament are at least neoliberal or nationalist right and some individuals in high places have hardline approaches on certain issues such as abortion that would be considered pretty hard right even in our own beloved Tory party. Im not trying to introduce any dynamics, I was simply furthering the conversation.

I can understand why you are enthralled with the EU because your economic outlook matches theirs perfectly. Banks, finance, big business etc. My original point was why do those of a more left wing socialist persuasion support membership of an organisation that is almost exclusively run by their ideological opposites and individuals who would be reviled if they were politicians in this country?

Yes, why do you as a socialist sort of chap who champions state ownership, redistribution of wealth and a strong welfare state want to remain under the umbrella of an organisation that is run exclusively by people with a similar policy build as mrs thatcher?

Ah - you must just be deliberately describing it as something it isn’t for the lolz. What do you actually believe in? What political position do you actually hold? Because you appear to spend your entire time making smart a*se quips about absolutely everything, whether it be the EU, the Tories, Labour under Blair, Labour under Corbyn, the SNP, Plaid etc etc. Plus you appear to believe public services can be provided without money. If your entire position is just to be contrary, fine, but holding out as against every possibility, all day, every day, is a little odd.

But Trump did appoint the conservative Supreme Court justices (as well as many other judicial appointments) who oppose abortion and so has emboldened anti-abortionists across the USA to bring in their new laws, with the belief that they can finally overturn Roe vs Wade. I think it's fair to say Trump, or any US president, has far more say over abortion laws in his country than Tusk does in any EU country in his current role.

It really isn’t. Carry on just being ‘clever’ though if you wish to waste your time. If you’d rather spend your time more productively, have a look at the latest tax legislation introduced (the legislation that the likes of Farage, Rees Mogg etc are so keen to avoid). New rules on corporation tax on multi nationals, Also have a look at the workers protections that the Eu have introduced. Have a look at the actual rules on state ownership and support rather than those you seem to think exist, have a look at the equalities legislation that the EU have introduced. Have a look at the funding model which provides wealthier areas and countries redistribute to the poorer areas and countries. Have a look at refugee policies, policies on immigration. And then come back and explain how all of that is Thatcherism.

But both have the same or similar stance on abortion. Only one faces outrage and condemnation from the lefty types in our country.
