Abortion is illegal in Poland except in the event of rape or incest or when the baby is malformed. Tusk was leader of Poland for many years. Why are remainers happy to condone and support people like this to be president of the European council but then simultaneously condemn people like JRM and Trump for anti abortion stances?

I was directly responding to the guy who said the EU was communist, pointing out correctly that all of the commission, the president of the European council and a large proportion of the European Parliament are at least neoliberal or nationalist right and some individuals in high places have hardline approaches on certain issues such as abortion that would be considered pretty hard right even in our own beloved Tory party.

But Trump did appoint the conservative Supreme Court justices (as well as many other judicial appointments) who oppose abortion and so has emboldened anti-abortionists across the USA to bring in their new laws, with the belief that they can finally overturn Roe vs Wade.
I think it's fair to say Trump, or any US president, has far more say over abortion laws in his country than Tusk does in any EU country in his current role. |  |
