The end of democracy in the UK just got a lot closer. on 17:14 - Jun 13 by Batterseajack | Weird logic. If extending article 50 is an option, how is there no mandate to use it? |
How is it wierd logic? Parliament approved the invocation of Article 50 where it was clear 29th March, no deal was default exit position. At the point the invocation was passed, there was a mandate to leave under WTO rules if no deal was reached. That's a simple fact. What happened afterwards screwed things up - those opposing a no deal Brexit could have prevented a lot of the problems by voting against the invocation of Article 50 with the specified conditions. Instead, they voted for it then worked to undermine it.

Nobody voted for a no deal brexit. Indeed 48% did not want any form if Brexit. There is no mandate for no deal. Hopefully it brings the government down if they try it.

The end of democracy in the UK just got a lot closer. on 16:26 - Jun 13 by sherpajacob | Rumour maybe: The political editor of sky news reporting what was said to them by a member of the 1922 committee. It may not be a true, it is possible a senior tory is lying. its nothing to do with leave or remain its the minor matter of choosing the next PM. Strange how those who were most vocal about voting leave because of democracy and sovereignty now seem willing to abandon both. |
Or just maybe a journalist is making it up. Or are you completely ruling that out? It has everything to do with leave or remain and you know it.

It's to do with the issue of Johnson's character. He is a scheming untrustworthy liar. He happened also to be the lead spokesperson for Vote leave. Are those things connected?

Oh, Bluey. That’s so wrong on almost every conceivable level. Parliament passed an Act giving the PM the power to invoke A50. There was no date in that Act. The decision to invoke A50 on 29 March 2017 was the government’s not parliament’s.

The end of democracy in the UK just got a lot closer. on 15:41 - Jun 13 by LeonWasGod | Such a lame argument. It's called indirect democracy. We vote people in to make decisions on our behalf, including nominating our Commissioners to the EU. |
The voters do not elect the commissioners they are appointed one by each eu country. At least cabinet members are MPs who were voted into parliament. [Post edited 14 Jun 2019 8:22]

I know. Bt they are selected by the people we elect to do these things. Do we really want direct democracy on every decision? We're not getting to have a say in the new PM who will be taking this country in god knows what direction. We don't get to elect the queen who can grant or withhold Royal Assent on legislation and could in theory pick the PM, we don't get to appoint people directly to the Privy Council, we don't get to appoint the Lords, we don't get to select the First Minister in the Assembly, etc., etc., etc.

Cabinet members are either MPs or members of the house of lords. Peter Mandelson was neither when he was appointed mister for business in 2008. The mistake was noticed and within 10 days he was granted a peerage.
