All a ruddy mess. The current owner has only had it a year. If Dunphy takes it he will be the 4th owner in 4 years I believe. The council evicted the club from their offices at the stadium this week. If the current owner can't pay the wages this week Dunphy is going to need to inject a fair bit of cash quickly. Why would you do it?

Dunphy on 11:33 - Apr 3 with 6239 views | EllDale | I can't weigh the purchase up at all. Gateshead have no real fan base and even if they were the top of the National League I can't see them tempting Newcastle or Sunderland fans along to matches. Their budget will never be able to match that of clubs with big backers like Fylde, Salford or Harrogate. And they won't be able to compete financially with the likes of "big" clubs at that level like Chesterfield, Wrexham, Leyton Orient, Hartlepool and potentially Notts County (sorry Chalky).
Dunphy on 11:55 - Apr 3 with 6194 views | electricblue | I had a look at the stadium on google maps and its an athletic track with a few stands.... CD would be wise to walk away and get rossendale utd going again...

Dunphy on 12:10 - Apr 3 with 6167 views | EllDale | They play at the Gateshead International Stadium which, as you quite rightly say, is basically an athletics track albeit a well-appointed one. Not any old track though because in the 1970's and 1980's it was world famous when Brendan Foster hosted a lot of top class televised meetings there. Lots of history with top stars in attendance. Those days have gone though. You can't escape the fact either that the pitch is a long way from the stands and that both ends are open to the elements which makes it extremely inhospitable when the weather is bad. The wind tends to blow down the pitch as well which doesn't add to the spectacle. If the club rent it from the council I doubt if there is much scope to make much money from hospitality and/or catering on matchdays. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

At Gateshead thankfully, not sure Richard Branson has enough brass to pull that shower out of their current hole!!! #enjoytheride
Dunphy on 22:32 - May 2 with 4519 views | Dalenet | The Gateshead saga is worse than bURY. The owners didn't sign the sale papers with Dunphy and they say they will run it next season. They want to play at Kingston Park currently used by the two codes of Rugby in Newcastle. And of course it is 5 miles from Gateshead so not in the borough. But all but one employee has now been sacked. There is no playing squad, no ground and no investment. And now no fan base. It can't survive unless the owner sells as he said he would The fans met last night to thrash out how to set up a phoenix club. They don't want to run it themselves aka FC United but want to raise enough cash and support to encourage a responsible local investor to own it. I had friends at the meeting last night and they are seriously worried that they won't have any club to support next season. Dunphy could help with the Phoenix club

Dunphy on 09:25 - Jun 3 with 2742 views | electricblue | Does that mean CD as no involvement now! Or is he part of consortium..
