Nile Ranger to Dale! on 18:06 - Jan 27 by 49thseason
Its hard to imagine that there hasn't been some sort of discussion between Hill and at least some of the board about this prior to his arrival , even if only to justify the hotel bills. I have no doubt there will have been lots of ifs and buts, but if the lad has turned a corner in his attitude then why not give him a go, The lad must realise there will not be many more opportunities after this one, either he gets his head right or he will be history, maybe Calvin will be mentoring him?
If the last part of your last sentence is true then we shouldn’t be worried about Rangers carrying firearms.
He is around 27yrs old so still as a good 4 or 5 seasons ahead of him if he keeps injury free may have a couple more. So Ranger may be thinking he is worth more in wages and also wants more as he at that stage where he should be entering his peake..
My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

We won't offer him a contract if his fitness looks like being a serious issue. We won't offer him a contract if he's looked pants during a trial period. We won't offer him a contract if he doesn't appear to want to knuckle down and turn his life around. We won't offer him a contract if it looks like he could potentially be a disruptive influence in the dressing room.
If we offer him a contract then it means that all of the above criteria (and more) is satisfied and that KH is happy that his signing will have a positive influence on the team and club. If this is the case then I trust his judgement on the matter.
This is probably his last chance at a career in football...let's hope that this facilitates a change in his behaviour. Welcome to the club, Power

Before the 'secret' trial, is it likely we will have known to some extent what terms Oxford offered? If we weren't prepared to offer similar or better would the trial have even taken place?

'Only happy when you've got it often makes you miss the journey'
Perhaps he is skint, and all his fraudulent mates are in prison? If we have to sign him I would offer him next to nothing as a wage, with almost everything performance related.
My opinion has not changed, I would hate to see him in a dale shirt.

In his post match interview Hilly said he wanted 3 more players before the window shut, one with genuine pace up top, a left back but didn’t elaborate on the third. Could well be that Ranger is the 3rd player with Hilly trying to keep it under wraps.
Got a sneaky feeling the third one is Jake Kean, who is a free agent, just left mansfield. think he has lost trust in Norman and if Lillis gets injured, we are in bother.
mal benning - LB and nile ranger - CF will be the other two

I listened to this pod cast. If you can be bothered the whole thing is good. But fast forward to where he discusses being on a pay as you play, possibly at Blackpool?
Interesting insight into the mind of a player on a low basic and "incentive" based bonuses.
He basically says that he would play within himself to ensure he's fit and available for selection. I.e what's the point in putting in a potential crunching challenge and getting injured. I can kind of see his point there.
