Whats happened to jeff? 23:39 - Jul 8 with 5233 views | UplandsJack | I see there's already a thread on Baston's absence, but I wanted to know if anyones heard where Montero is hiding at? Noticed from club images that it looks like he too hadn't returned to training last week, so my question is simply, has he been sold or released Or just injured yet again? Whats happened to jeff? on 23:48 - Jul 8 with 5207 views | Badlands | Potter said there were problems with his visa! Not sure if that was a border issue or his bank card wasn't accepted for the flight back! Montero hasn't been a success in Europe (this time or the first period he had in Spain) and spent little time the pitch again last season playing. Write off IMO.

Well to be fair Swansea chose to send him out on loan, are in charge of his visa. If he is having problems getting another visa.. not his problem, should be down to the club working on that for him as they are most likely classed as his "Sponsor".
Whats happened to jeff? on 09:21 - Jul 9 with 4945 views | omarjack | He's been in the club for years now. And now all of a sudden he needs a work permit. What kind of f*ckery is this? He's still contracted to us right? So how did his visa expire? What kind of bullsh!t laws are these. Having a non-EU criteria (numbers of players limitations like in most of other leagues) is acceptable..But this shIthousery of needing to play X matches with the player's national team in a period of Y years..Unless they have an outie bellybutton then it's ok..and His grandma shouldn't have diabetes and f*ck knows what else. It's just messed up. There are so many talents to discover overseas. Some with big potential who aren't internationals because maybe they're not good enough to play for Brazil,Argentina etc..but could still be really good signings for small clubs like ours. When Watford signed Richarlison they probably had to bribe who knows who for a work permit..They had to go to court or something to get it done despite not fulfilling the FA criteria. Still they've managed somehow. [Post edited 9 Jul 2018 9:22]

"All of a sudden" he's gone from being an exciting international regular to perpetually injured (mentally as much as physically) and unable to get regular starts for a club side in his home nation. He's no longer considered an exceptional talent, and there are clearly UK and EU applicants that could do the same job as well or better. There may be "so many talents to discover overseas" but there are plenty in South Wales as well. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yeah..it's better to "expand your horizon" in general. Wales's population is 3 m only. South and Central America for example have a population of about 700 m people with a very strong football culture. Just imagine the talent pool over there. Certainly only few make it on an international level which means we can't even consider signing most of these under the FA rules unless they carry an EU passport as well. You're right about Montero. I'm sure nobody cares whether he stays or goes. But the idea is that the club should have the option here. And not some bureaucratic nonsensical rules. And you say that there are many UK/EU players who can do a better job than Montero. Well no sh!t..Having a very simple and supportive EU recruitment criteria is terrific of course and no complaints about it. But in order to get those players the club will have to invest extra funds in order to sign them. Meanwhile Montero is already paid for and contracted. And Swans have to pay his wages for no return on top of that. If Montero was quality I'd be outraged if we can't play him. Luckily it's no big loss if ir doesn't work out.

Whats happened to jeff? on 10:03 - Jul 9 with 4860 views | jasper_T | There is an enormous talent pool but they have their own domestic leagues and if the floodgates opened up for European clubs the hordes of unscrupulous agents would be exporting every kid who can do a stepover en mass. Championship clubs like ours would not have a free run at a massive untapped market.
Whats happened to jeff? on 11:41 - Jul 9 with 4712 views | NeathJack | Work permits usually cover a player for the duration of his contract. It's possible that by going out on a loan (and then a sub loan) that it has meant he needs a new work permit. If this is the case and he is no longer meets the criteria for a work permit, then whoever is responsible for overseeing such things needs sacking.

Whats happened to jeff? on 12:52 - Jul 10 with 4119 views | omarjack | Apparently, the FA are investigating whether Montero not completing the "75% presence in national teams fixtures over 2 years" criteria is due to him not being good enough or only due to him being injured. And it's looking like it's the latter. Swansea are confident he'll be cleared for a new work permit. Probably will join the squad next week.

Been a disaster.... and we will still have those on here that will point to the games against Chelsea and arsenal when he was "unplayable". two games in how long. I was in West Brom for an evening game a couple of years back and he put in a performance that was the worst that I have ever seen by a Premier League player from ANY club.

Other than he’s around 6ft, that’s all that’s been obtained so far from when someone asked if it was a big player we were signing.

I know montero has flattered to deceive but there's a clean slate for everyone now. Let's see if Potter can manage his mental and physical frailties because the ability is there and for us beggars can't be choosers. We need to get behind Potter and whoever he picks and I'm hoping he's going to pick up a few good bargains and make us a genuine competitive threat once more.
